I've since watched and, regrettably, enjoyed the Attack on Titan anime, so even I have become a weeb after all this time.

Perhaps it would be worth it to reflect on what greater goals you still want to achieve. Unless you can do something you're really passionate about, work is usually just a means to an end.

Wow, good news all around! Congratulations!
Thanks!

It's unfortunately not all good news though. I've since watched and, regrettably, enjoyed the Attack on Titan anime, so even I have become a weeb after all this time.

I read you also bought a house yourself, so congrats to you as well. :)

Dude wtf congrats
Thanks man. Some big changes for sure.

How have you been?

Edit: just read your comment in the other thread. Anything in particular you're feeling depressed about?

Good to see that this place is still alive.

For me personally, things have changed quite a bit. To summarize:

- Graduated and got my degrees in law.

- Started a career in academia as a legal scholar and researcher. Worked on a bunch of international / European development projects on AI while doing the typical academic stuff like publishing articles and whatnot.

- Started my PhD last year.

- Managed to make something out of my Twitch channel. Got partnered and connected with Bethesda, so I've gotten hired as an analyst and caster for their esports events.

- Got married to my girlfriend of 6 years.

- After renting a place for the past few years, I just bought a house (signed the contract for now, will be able to move into it in a few months).

- Wife and I are expecting our first baby later this year. :)

Haven't seen the second movie yet, but For the First Time in Forever is easily the best song from the first one.

Intel? In 2O2O?
I'm looking at a 3900x myself right now, but stock is low everywhere.

Don't worry
According to the techtubers with like half the world's stock, supply will normalize
Ordered a 3900x and RTX 3080 just now. Fingers crossed I don't have to wait too long, but I'm sure it'll be a few weeks.

Just ordered the SM7B along with a Fethead preamp and Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen. Also got a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera to use as a webcam since Elgato already sent me one of their Camlink kits. Pricey, but should be good.

buying hot things on the internet is not for humans; stick to in store purchasing if you can
I'll probably just wait until they're back in stock. I never actually tried ordering any of them before they were already sold out, unfortunately. But yeah, it's definitely a bot's game these days.

I'm sure it will, but I'd like to buy it before the end of the year for tax purposes lol

Tax write off?
Playing Cyberpunk on ultra a part of your job?
Pretty much. I already mentioned it in my thread about microphones (advice still welcome, if you have any). I founded a Ltd. company last year for my esports / streaming work. Got a good amount of revenue but hardly any costs in 2020. Incurring some expenses now and writing them off would be good for taxes. The main problem is that so much is out of stock. I was looking at an 5900x, RTX 3080, PS5 and so on, but they're pretty much impossible to get these days.

I recommend buying this microphone for anything, a bud and I bought this mic to record our music. It costed him close to $60 at the time.

fixed

Oh shit I did not realize that. Thanks for pointing that out.
Thanks for the suggestion. That seems like a solid mic for the price. Getting a stand, pop filter and shock mount to go isn't a bad deal either. I think I'm looking for a more XLR setup this time around though.

It's good to know that there really is no magic solution to make sure everything is getting cool air though, I guess I'll just have to decide where I want the heat.
Yeah, there's really no perfect setup. As long as you don't do things like exhausting hot air through the bottom or setting up your fans so that they push against each other, you'll be fine. It's not as if you're running an overclocked 9900k and 3090 that will run really hot and need optimal airflow to stay cool.

But if you're that concerned with it, you can always just test it for yourself. Mount the radiator one way, install HW Monitor, run a game for 2 hours, take note of the min/max/average temps in your components. Shut everything off, let it cool down overnight, mount it the other way, and repeat the same test. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to remount the radiator, so you can easily compare the results and see if one solution gets better results.

Also, I agree with Inglorious on the liquid cooling. It's a lot of hassle for negligible gains. You're running a mid-tier i5 that can't overclock. Watercooling is completely unnecessary in your case and only really matters if you're trying to push high-end components to the limit. Unless you're dead set on having an AIO, I would just replace it with a solid air cooler and save yourself some money while you're at it. Won't make a difference performance-wise.

Are you sure that 10400 comes with a stock cooler? Intel doesn't usually include one with CPU's in that price class, as far as I know.

I don't think you should worry too much with those components. You have a non-K CPU that you won't use to overclock and your power consumption with those specs will be pretty low, so I doubt that temps or airflow are going to be a huge issue (especially given that you're going with liquid cooling). Mounting the radiator front / top each has its own benefits. People say that front makes for a (slightly) cooler CPU and (slightly) hotter GPU, and that top does the opposite, but it really just depends on your specific case / cable management / components and hardly matters.

I'd definitely advise against exhausting through the front though. That's a pretty unusual setup that doesn't really offer any benefits and often isn't even really intended by case manufacturers. I would just go with front intake, rear exhaust, mount radiator at the top and then see which direction you prefer there. You can either have the radiator exhaust through the top or pull air in from the top.

Flee is the 1%
I wish. The money isn't strictly speaking my own, it's the company's assets. I can't just use it for whatever.

And don't forget that you're the one who started it all. I still have a screenshot somewhere of the first 30 cents I made with this being you cheering some bits in my channel when I got affiliate. Good times. How have you been?

Pretty good all things considered, things good on your end?
Yeah man, just busy with work and stuff but it's not too bad in general. Everyone around me is safe and healthy. Vaccines should begin distribution to the general public at the start of January so hopefully life can return to normal soon.

Blue Yeti was the go-to for years for youtubers and whatnot, though there's tons of options these days.
Yeah, the Yeti's a solid mic but it's only USB. Looking for something more serious (XLR) now, I think.

Yeah man, it's been a while. Life's just been busy. How have you been?

And yep, it's mainly for streaming. My channel picked up a fair bit and I got partnered on Twitch some time ago. I've also been picked up by Bethesda to do analysis and casting for esports titles like Quake, which is mainly why I'm looking to upgrade. If I'm going to be doing more professional commentary and such in the future, I feel like having better equipment than my current budget USB mic would help.

The SM7B seems to be the industry standard and has been recommended by a few people, so it seems like a safe choice. Just quite pricey, unfortunately. Especially with all the extra costs. $400 for the mic itself is only the beginning since you also need a solid pre-amp and mixer to make the most out of it, which could easily almost double the cost. Looking at Cloudlifter / Fethead / Dynamite pre-amp and a Scarlett Focusrite or Presonus 24c mixer for now.

Budget isn't really an issue, although it obviously does matter. I founded a .ltd company for esports casting and have been making some good money with it. That's part of the reason why I'm looking to spend some more now. I had a lot of revenue this year but pretty much no costs, which means that I'm paying a fair bit in corporate tax. Incurring some expenses would be a good strategy, so I'm really just looking to buy some things before the end of the year.

It just sucks that so much cool stuff is currently unavailable due to a lack of stock. Things like an RTX 3080, AMD 3900x, PS5 and Xbox series X would make for some good purchases but are pretty much out of stock everywhere.

This is a bad take. All lives do matter but they're not all treated equally. Some face systemic inequalities that others don't, hence why they're highlighted in particular. Saying "all lives matter" is like complaining that people only commemorate the WTC on 9/11 because "all buildings matter". They sure do, but those other ones didn't have a plane fly into them.
