It doesn't affect me whatsoever, and if people want to do their own weird thing then go ahead.

But then we have the retards that bring more scrutiny on the furry fandom, like the girl who bit a mentally retarded boy because he kept annoying her at her job.

Woah that lady took it too far!
The furry fandom is definitely large, I didn't learn about baby furs until they had a tv episode about it.

I believe the basis behind the otherkin belief is that one's 'soul' is that of another species and that they are merely in the wrong body. Which would mean that they'd still be perfectly capable of human cognition as they have a human body.

That's what I've seen anyways.
Well the argument that the soul even exist is another discussion entirely.
It sounds like what you're describing is similar to that of a spirit animal, which is predetermined and requires going through extraordinary lengths to discover.
Rather than this it seems otherkin just tend to choose whatever animal suits them.

Also from what I understand otherkin are just  furries minus the sex.

I mean it's all fun and games to pretend you're an animal race for a role playing games it is a whole other world when you actually believe you're soul belongs to that of something nonhuman. I'm Native American (as I have posted before in other threads) and I discovered that my spirit animal is a fox, but I don't believe I am truly a fox in a humans body. Yeah I joked in the "how did you choose your username" thread saying I was a fox but I don't identify myself as a fox. It's an interesting concept and I understand some believe in reincarnation so in that belief it's possible to have been an animal or what not in a past life.

You can't identify as partially an animal because an animal doesn't think like that, the cognitive difference is too great.

It's okay as a bit of fun, but anything beyond that is downright bizzare.
I'm not in any position to tell people what they can't do and it doesn't impact me regardless.
If someone wants to pretend to be a goose or whatever their favorite animal is then that's their choice.
The problem is when people insist that these feelings are genuine and not the result of a personality disorder.

Additionally, assuming this had any truth to it you wouldn't have any control over your behaviour (also assuming the part is your consciousness).
I believe the basis behind the otherkin belief is that one's 'soul' is that of another species and that they are merely in the wrong body. Which would mean that they'd still be perfectly capable of human cognition as they have a human body.

That's what I've seen anyways.

So kind of like transgendered people except extremely different and nonhuman?

I suppose I would be considered "otherkin" because I LARPed for about five years and I was an Arctic fox assassin and painted my body to look like such, but I don't identify myself as otherkin or a furry my character is just and extension of who I am. I don't get off to humanoid foxes it's not my cup of tea.
So you get off to actual foxes?

Hey Elegiac we found you a girlfriend! n.n

Do not...

Who made this hilarious alt?

While I'm glad you find me hilarious I am not an alt.

Picture is from 2008

I really did LARP at "solar" southern organization of role play. Disbelief? Google it.
Oh fuck you aren't bullshitting.

Well then.

I'm a very honest and open person irl and online. I find it pointless to be anything less.
Yeah I'm just used to bullshit alts on forums. Sorry lol
It's okay no need to apologize

Off to a BBQ at a friend's house.

We'll probably end up playing Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat X, and Rock Band while we are there.

I  gave myself a blood blister on my thumb last night from playing smash bros brawl
I love that game series
Dark Souls gave me subconjunctival hemorrhage
Seems legit

At last maybe I will stop being accused of an alt lol probably not though

im otherkin

What do you identify yourself as? What would you say caused or made you that way, and what (if any) struggles do you encounter?
I identify as a Caracal, I first realized that I was different when I was 6 years old. I felt alien and out of place with no matter who I was with, it had severe effects on me especially in regards to my social life when I was growing up. I am a Caracal because I share many of the big cats features and traits. For example Caracals have large hairy ears, as do I. Another would be that Caracals are nocturnal, fast and very agile, as am I. They are also very prominent in Asia of which I originate so I thought it would be the best decision.

In my daily life it's kind of hard being who I am, I feel systematically oppressed and segregated from civilised society because I feel as if my kind are not wanted. I didn't choose to be like this I just am and I cannot help it. I hope to live in world where when I'm filling out a form under the list of various ethnicities there will be an other section of which I can tick the Caracal box. I hate being to as otherkin, it makes me sick and frankly I'm trigged whenever someone refers to me as such irl.

WHY AM I OTHERKIN? I AM MY OWN PERSON, THIS IS WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY WHY DO YOU HAVE TO REFER ME AS "OTHER"
SUCH TERMS SUBCONSCIOUSLY FEEL AS IF WHAT I AM IS WRONG BUT THIS IS WHO I AM
I didn't mean to offend you quite honestly I am intrigued by the psychology of it. I referred to it as "otherkin" because there are many classifications of identities. You are Caracal as you identify yourself. I'm not sure where the term otherkin originated.

What makes you think they're crazy?
Like what aspect of their distorted persona makes you think "crazy"
I mean, you used the word "distorted" there, so it seems like you see where I'm coming from already. I mean, maybe "crazy" is hyperbolic, but I have a sort of innate contempt for people who seem to go out of their way to be... "unique", or "special".

Understandable. It's sort of like hipsters claiming to shy away from the mainstream and then they become the mainstream and also use iPhones. Trying that hard to be different then makes you become uniform, but what about those who don't want to be different and just are? Then what would it be considered.

For extreme cases yes.
When the whole group is earnestly claiming that they are not human and instead are animals, it would seem that they all fall in it to some degree.
Most definitely but then that would be considered a form of group think and thus become a social norm within their group. Outside of that group they're consider abnormal.

Great point. By then they should either be hospitalized or jailed.

I choose not to give a fuck about shit that doesn't affect me since it. . you know. .  promotes a more stable mentality.
Not really. All it does is make you apathetic, which is either... neutral, or bad.
Well those two other statements are meant to be taken in conjunction with the first.

There are plenty of things that concerning yourself with can be healthy for you even if they would never affect you if you chose not to concern yourself with them, obviously. But what I mean to convey is that if you generally don't feel strong emotions towards the bulk of what doesn't affect you then your mentality is generally more stable.

That isn't to say that feeling good emotions towards any particular thing that doesn't affect you is a bad thing, just that you wouldn't be as prone to indignation, bigotry, hate etc. and your mind would generally be more at peace.

There are a lot of things in life and concerning yourself with them can be good, bad, or neutral, or a mix of the three for yourself and many others. I believe there is wisdom in understanding how the things you concern yourself with will affect you and those you influence.

You are very intelligent!
