Hey now, these are some highly rare items you're asking for here.
i guess i better keep hold of these to raise the market value
Specific consumer base is too small for artificial scarcity to dramatically inflate real value of speculated property.

Maybe now but I'm expecting a rise in share value after three more quarters with current projections of market trends and profit reporting.
your predictions are all over the place

The Flood / Re: Phones
« on: December 28, 2016, 04:25:15 PM »
Never jumped on the phone bandwagon for some reason.

Why'd you guys jump on board when that trend started?
It has nothing to do with trends they're convenient for people who live in developed areas.

I get that they're handy if an issue comes up but it seems like the bulk of their usage goes elsewhere.
edit: this turned out larger than i thought but you could just read the last paragraph

it's one of those things you wouldn't find use or dependency in unless you actually use it, and when you do it makes so many things much easier, its not absolutely necessary to use to live but it does save a lot of time doing the things id normally spend more time doing less efficiently

a phone is what it had developed from (hence smartphone) but its much more than that now, it's more like a PDA that people actually use

I have many utility apps that make using public transport much easier, such as moovit or citymapper, which i swear  by on bus times and train routes, uber is great for super cheap taxis, me and my friends have used that a couple times too

I often use it to pay friends over paypal instantly if they pay for an expensive meal or such, i dont have to go to an atm and get money out and then swap denominations or change or whatever, i can just type the exact amount and split it ( calculator on the phone is handy for that too )

i have a one-touch flashlight button that just uses the camera flash as a flashlight, and its really bright, so whenever i need a flashlight, i can just use my phone which i always have with me

if im out and about or doing some long commuting, given a comfortable enough area i would tether the phone to my laptop and do work or browse the web while on the train, or that it also doubles as a music player, and id remember the times where id have to carry both a phone and an ipod or something

sometimes i see a nice car or something cool, maybe a nice sunset, i can just pull out my phone and take a picture, and smartphone cameras are getting really really good these days, some even having full 3d capture and slow-motion

so i wouldnt really say its a bandwagon, it just has a lot of hardware like GPS, internet connectivity, wifi, accelerometers, camera, and all these come together in a single portable device you can access easily and conveniently, and there are apps that take advantage of them, where in the past you would have to carry around a lot of stuff to get that kind of functionality everywhere

its a swiss army knife of communication, and while i said a lot about why its useful, its not something you can't live without, obviously, its just one of those things where if you used it enough, you just think "how did i live before this"

i knew a guy who didnt have internet in his house until like 2011, the fact that one day he could he suddenly had access to all this information and entertainment was pretty mind blowing to him, but of course he went a lot of his life without it, so had he not ever seen it, he probably wouldve went on living his life as such

it was like me getting my first nonstick pan, back then i was fine with any pan

now i only get nonstick pans, but had i never i wouldve still been okay with cooking with any old pan

i dont want to use the word ignorance, but the time i couldve used to plan train journeys, or photo opportunities ive missed, bus iteneraries, waiting in line at the atm are all inconveniences my smartphone has effectively dashed when it does all of this stuff in the tap of a button

Meat Lovers is the only acceptable option for extras on a cheese pizza. Jalapenos are tolerable but nor encouraged.

Pineapple is literally right next to anchovies on the list of shit not to put on it, same with mushrooms.

what if the game is good but the story is trite or the VA is garbage
I usually turn off voice acting when I can. In some cases, like Devil Survivor, the acting just isn't that good. In nearly every case, it's just suuuuper slow and not worth waiting after I've already read the subtitles for it to finish.
personally, i derive a LOT of entertainment from bad voice acting

it can make an otherwise average game a lot funnier, so it's win/win for me
Not bad acting, just not good. Bland, unimpressive.
sounds pretty bad to me

overacted in the wrong places

imo bland and unimpressive would be the MMO localizations that just sound like normal americans sounding like normal americans in a completely different world

strong accents worked well in skyrim, dragons dogma sounded goofy but fun, like monty python, but if a knight in armor sounded like a new york millenial that would put me out of it, it doesn't work in the context but could work elsewhere
No not his link, explaining what I meant in my og post.

With what we got as Fallout 4 Bethesda is probs going to give us the same formula for the next ES. Which is sad of course.
Nah, they've openly admitted to some faults with FO4, like the voice acting.
while its a step in the right direction fixing the shitty dialogue options doesnt fix the rest of the game

id like to hear more of what theyve admitted to instead of pretty much handing the reigns to their playerbase to mod a playable experience out of it

as much as i like mods for fixing the small stuff fallout 4 really phoned it in for the base rpg aspect

They also said how the all combat missions thing wasn't intentional and more a result of bad communication between the teams making the game.

well good

i just hope it has a good number of handcrafted quests like at least the amount in skyrim

fallout 4 quests were abysmal in that ive explored some dungeons and on more than 4 occassions had a line that said "oh ive already done that quest for you gibe reward"

you wouldnt have finished half the handmade quests even in skyrim given 500 hours yet ive done it in <150 in f04, and thats including the time i wasted on the settlements

yet you still need a PC to do it on either platform (like you just said), making it easier to do on PC by default
it requires the same amount of time and effort to do on either

as ive mentioned who would play online would have access to the internet solely for online games

im sure they exist, in very little numbers, along with the subscription fee they have to pay to play online

but i digress
It's big enough to make me think twice about PC players when matched against them.

i responded to this last so it might make more sense to read the rest of this post first

it's not enough for you to stop playing crossplay, overall the game is more or less better with it, the average person, i.e a pc player who is not a cheater would have the same experience for online as any ps4 player would jumping into crossplay

Quote
Quote
you maybe right, but who knows

how would that make PC a much worse experience than console if it happens on both, if neither of us (afaik) has ran into one online

is our experience of the game that badly impacted by hackers that the games we play are ruined by them or are you afraid of running into someone you have an incredibly small chance of running into
Neither, it's just principle. I've run into a total of three macro players in SFV, and they all played on PC. And sure, that doesn't mean they're ALL on PC, but I dunno, it's sort of abundantly clear to me that most of them are on PC. It's not really something I ever thought I'd have to defend.

while not a great sample size for this argument ill say its true that there are more of those cheaters playing on PC

reporting them and getting them banned is an appropriate response, what else can you do, it would be the same for console macro players

Quote
isnt sfv cross platform

can you choose to play against ps4 people only
Yes to both, but in doing so, you're basically cutting the pool of active players in half, which is not something you really want to do when it can take 5+ minutes to find one match w/ a 5-bar connection. And again, it's something I probably shouldn't have to worry about on principle anyway.

would you say it actually cuts it in half or adds more potential matchups since previous games were on PC too, just not able to fight against each other before then, if you wanted to avoid PC players you could just as well go back to how you played the last games

for that at least the fact that there are PC players, it's very unlikely you would actually run into a cheater ( even if its more likely on cross play ) you still choose to play against them because it's more convenient and the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of running into a cheater say 1 every 100 games

taking that into consideration, were i to jump online and play cross play the same as i'd suspect most would, i would pretty much be faced with the same chances playing on pc as i would ps4

i dont think theres any bias towards a certain platform and in my experience with cross play on rocket league, ive previously ended up with 2 ps4 players on my team with me being the only one on pc vs 3 other ps4 players

overall, in the way id suspect you and i would play multiplayer and would still play cross platform, PC isnt any worse a platform (unless of course you are a cheater yourself) or there was some sort of bias to pairing you against a PC player, and if that were true there would still be a very low chance of running into a cheater

if we say potential for cheating is higher from a person playing from pc, then i think we both agree that the type of person who would be cheating is a shitty person and is the kind of person that would cheat on console too

nowadays in most modern games its pretty difficult come across cheaters or hackers in both consoles and PC, while there might be more in one or another, in the end it still comes down to the game's anti-cheat system, or report system, which are getting better and better as computer security advances

as ive mentioned who would play online would have access to the internet solely for online games

im sure they exist, in very little numbers, along with the subscription fee they have to pay to play online

but i digress

lets say it was easier on pc; it still happens on both

the servers themselves are dumb, they dont know anything, its up to the developers of the game to implement the anti-cheat serverside, the kind of anti-cheat that would be developed for that specific game for detecting, well, cheating

call of duty has been terrible on all platforms for this, some games do better than others, overwatch is (or had been) particularly good at this on all platforms

some consoles exclusives, some pc exclusives, the frequency of cheating all lies on the anti-cheat, and as you know, it has not worked well for LBP

for anti-cheats that are fallible but with a good report system, banning is an appropriate response for games which are very difficult to detect cheats on, for both pc and console

i mean, more and more people nowadays are selling their consoles outright and becoming "PC gamers," and most PC gamers do tend to mod the shit out of their games

so i don't think it's terribly far-fetched to assume that most people who cheat online are indeed PC gamers

you maybe right, but who know

how would that make PC a much worse experience than console if it happens on both, if neither of us (afaik) has ran into one online

is our experience of the game that badly impacted by hackers that the games we play are ruined by them or are you afraid of running into someone you have an incredibly small chance of running into

on the off chance that you do run into a cheater actively playing against you (and i never have in both console or pc) would that be enough to put you off the platform

717
Gaming / Re: Street Fighter V - Season 1 Overview
« on: December 27, 2016, 07:45:34 PM »
of course you would still need a pc for either of these
well, there you go, then
as far as im aware you were stating pc was worse because it was vulnerable to people manipulating the leaderboards or cheating online

that was an extra sentence i added to say that you need a pc to do this

how many people would you say who play games online will have at least 1 working pc in their house and if not only paying for the internet just to play games online

nope

the servers for both pc and console are just that

bla bla bla
okay but specifically what about any of this means that it's not more difficult to do on console

i'm really not interested in these technical details, sorry
1. servers are just pcs for storing and managing data, whether its data for the console or pc version of the game is the same to hackers

it depends on the specific security software of those servers

2. youre modifying the controller not the game

719
Gaming / Re: Street Fighter V - Season 1 Overview
« on: December 27, 2016, 07:32:36 PM »
how does that make messing up the leaderboards any different from pc then
Quote
these arent mods, these are just button events, you can do the same on console

you can program an arduino as an xinput and just have buttons that activate perfectly timed joystick events

or you could just send voltage through the gamepad pcb for each button if you want to take apart your controller instead

i could show you some example code to show you how easy it is to manipulate this with a cheap arduino, and it would most definitely be easier than finding a way to remotely modify serverside data
is it not much easier to do these things on PC than it is on console
nope

the servers for both pc and console are just that

servers, pcs with specialized hardware for storing data

edit: actually that depends on the servers, so youre probably right on that, ive still seen it happen plenty on console

as for the arduino hacking the controller you would pre-programme the arduino with say a bunch of combos for a specific character or something and you press a button and it executes the button sequence

for that its just a stripped down controller with the button contacts wired to the arduino and the arduino sends the input to the controller

as long as the controller can connect to the controller it would work

that said you could write software from scratch to emulate xinput/dinput but it would more difficult than just buying an arduino and doing it that way since arduino makes it so easy to code and wire yourself

of course you would still need a pc for either of these unless you also turned your console into a windows machine or something, which is much easier to do now since consoles run on the same architecture as most modern pcs now

explain the video

also isnt little big planet a console exclusive

im pretty sure this happened on call of duty a lot on console too
it's console exclusive, but it still happens, so if it can happen to LBP it can happen to SFV

how does that make messing up the leaderboards any different from pc then

im pretty sure people just ignore the leaderboards at that point, for both console and pc if they get that bad

Quote
the video is of two modders playing online against each other with their mods--notice how jank a lot of their special moves are--and the entire channel is just the guy showcasing his mods and he has a bunch of videos where he takes them online

thats still clientside

they both had to have the mods installed to play against each other with the mods

Quote
people already take bots and macros online and teach them frame-perfect set-ups and combos so that they're unbeatable--they get banned, but they still get made
