I just thought up of a simple scenario that would make unstable frame rates appealing from an artistic standpoint.
Say you're playing an RPG, and the RPG's setting is like a virtual world--a game within a game type of thing. During the climax, or pre-climax, let's say the antagonist finds a way to access the world's engine or mainframe or whatever. He intends to destroy it, which will effectively corrupt your entire party in one fell swoop.
He's not strong enough to destroy it completely, though--he manages to damage it, but only to the extent that it causes the virtual world itself to falter a bit. So, in order to convey that to the player, enemies become pixelated, the music gets all wonky, and even the frame rate itself starts lagging a little bit.
Assuming the designers played around with it to where it wouldn't be annoying to play--let's say they made it a brief segment of the game, so you're not constantly having to deal with it for a large portion of the game. I personally think that would add a sense of urgency to the game. The world around you is literally falling apart, and you have the incentive now to stop that. Don't you think that would be kinda cool, or at least interesting as an artistic decision?
I'm just saying, anything's possible. You don't have to like "bad" frame rates if it's causing you to enjoy the experience less. I'm just trying to come up with a way to get you to see how virtually anything that you perceive as "bad" can be turned into a "good" if it's utilized properly.
It doesn't even have to be intentional. Sometimes, unintentional imperfections can enhance the experience as well. It's just harder to come up with an example that involves frame rate.
The moment your scenario, which is actually creative, comes into play, I'd enjoy the theme they were going for. I'm reminded of Metal Gear Solid 1/2 with Psycho Mantis doing his Hideo black out thing (which scared me as a kid), and MGS2 doing the Fission Mailure screen zoom out. It was the game developer fucking with you while still fitting into the story of it, all to a brilliant effect. So yeah, I see exactly where you're coming from. But I'm simply coming from games that don't try that at all and TRY to make it smooth, but due to bad optimization or whatever other means, it doesn't, and thus it pulls me from the game. An example would be the FF 15 demo I was playing and you're running away from a massive monster. So to get out a cutscene plays where you slide under some small vent or whatever, and the frames go from the stable 30, all the way down to like 15. It felt so bad, it COMPLETELY removed me from the intensity of what they were going for, and I was reminded I am playing a very early demo with some issues. I'm just disappointed in it because it jerks me out of the setting they're trying to throw me in, and it's reminding me that I am still on a couch/in front of a computer, playing a game.

Oh wow. Just give him an eye patch now.
Well with the PS4 mods coming soon maybe.
Are there any good outfits in game to finish the snake look?

I honestly don't know who is worse. Well, it really shouldn't be that difficult.
It's not. It's really really not. They're both not perfect, but one is a far better leader than another who is just a demagogue.

I can't get a cool mod Broduel featured on his mod videos. One with Red Rocket having a different interior/loading screen so it's more comforting.
Why?
The mod author was paranoid someone would steal it and upload it to Bethesda's website. They need to fix this crap soon.

I'm for Trump now, many people tried their best having Bernie being the Democratic nominee, we've failed ourselves.
"My candidate didn't win, so I'm gonna go to the complete opposite end of the spectrum".
That logic makes no sense and you're like those Bernie supporters on Reddit who give their life savings to him.
Well I'd rather have some one who doesn't involve in a lot of scandals and isn't corrupt like Hillary. Al though he isn't specific on a lot of things that he has been asked on, and he says dumb stuff too.
Bro, Trump is involved in scandals on both sides of the country.

An offline MMO is literally one of the best ideas for video games ever.
But it had MMO style combat and I hate MMOs. I really liked the design of the Judges though. Are you being sarcastic? Because Dragon Age Inquisition disagrees

Again, believe it or not, someone might actually like unstable frame rates. They might think it enhances the experience in some way. Are you going to tell them that they're wrong?
I don't believe it because I've never met anyone who actually legitimately prefers that. I feel like you're just against the argument for the sake of going against it. Usually with devils advocate you throw the other side of the perspective at someone, however I've not met anyone or heard anyone support this perspective you're presenting.
Hi.
Not that that even matters. The point is that it's conceivable that such an individual could exist, and that can't be ignored. If you've never met anyone in your life who doesn't enjoy pizza, you can't just assume that everyone likes pizza.
You've clearly said time and time again that you like stable frames when opposed to 60 fps because you can't tell the difference. So you're telling me you suddenly like 1 frame a second (which isn't even a moving picture) to support your argument? Pizza compared to a form of media that requires stability is different.

So remember when I said sports games are only worth buying every off year or so due to not much in changes? I'd argue this would be that off year since they're completely changing the engine from Ignite, to Frostbite (something EA is trying to do with all its sports games).
Though it remains to be seen how this will really effect anything, both in looks and gameplay. But if Frostbite is anything to go on from the other games, it SHOULD look a hell of a lot prettier.

I addressed that point in my other post, so I'll wait for you to reply to that one. I just want to re-state that when I say higher graphics, I don't mean realism. Like I said in the other post, I favor a creative art style over realism any day of the week anyway. It feels more intimate to me, more creative, and holds up longer over time.
When I think of better graphics, I think of things more so like how shadows looks, the lighting, and the anti-aliasing, along with Ambient Occlusion.
I suppose you could say shadows, and lighting are a big deal for me in games.

Yes, they are. Whether you think something looks better based solely on the fact that it has more polygons is an opinion. I might think it looks like garbage. When you say better graphics, you're implying (at least from what I gathered), which could run the game at higher settings and a more crisp picture. You went on to Wind Waker, which takes a completely different art direction. I agree with you that games that go for art like that hold up over time far longer than games that go for a realistic look. But I feel you should approach what you say with against the arguer, with the same logic you use to defend your points. Realism =/= good. If you think Uncharted 4's graphics are good, that is your opinion. Like this for example. I could say the exact same thing you just did, only swapping it around for Wind Waker. I feel there is no consistency in the points you make sometimes. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who loves Wind Waker too. I think it's the best 3D Zelda (2D being Link to the Past). The same goes for frame rate. I might think certain games look way better in 0.00001fps than 1200fps. If you re-read what I said, I stated more STABLE frame rates. As in, it doesn't dip down as much. It's the reason I dislike Revelations 2 on PS4 more so than Xbone (at least before the fix). It constantly dipped down to 24 frames or lower and was just jarring. If a game is 60fps but is constantly dropping, as opposed to a stable 30 frames, you're correct in thinking I'd take the 30fps. I'm not coming from a "LOL 60fps always better" standpoint when I stated that.

PC gamers are incapable of arguing facts, so I demonstrate that by being an elitist myself. I play games on PC and I'm arguing with you on a level headed and understanding platform I think. To show how fucking stupid you are. That's the point. Please stop with the personal insults. Really, it's not making any of this fun and it just gets nasty.[/quote] I'm not allowed to be dogmatic, but PC gamers are. Cool hypocrisy, bro.
I think you already made your point on that a few pages ago.

Your arguments always boil down to "I'm right because I say so". That's not really a legitimate argument, but whatever dude.
"We have better graphics!" In your opinion. "We have better frame rates!" In your opinion. "It's cheaper!" No it isn't.
These aren't opinions, Verb. PC has a higher range of graphics and almost always has a more stable frame rate, along with games going on sale for far cheaper than Xbox or PS4 do unless it's a summer event or something. The only opinion in that list was the better games one.

I wouldn't go so far to call them idiots. The way it all panned out, and the way people are, I can totally see and understand how people could have looked at it all and saw something fishy about it.
I don't think Luci is really calling those people who thought it was fishy at the start idiots, just those who ignore the mountains of evidence to the contrary years after it happened.
I was kinda just being silly in general, but yeah. Conspiracy theorists seem to think something happened, even when there is more evidence stacked on the actual story, and not the conspiracy. Which is why I cast it in the same light as the Pearl Harbor and Moon Landing ones. It's just so silly and untrue.

Verb I feel the point you're trying to make (pointing out the double standard of what PC players say) is effecting your actual stance on the issue. Seems you're playing more devils advocate (is that the right term for this?) in this thread but it's not panning out too well.

I believe some pissed off muslims crashed a plane.
You know if we really think about it as a county, I don't think we were this afraid of or obsessed with Muslims until this shit happened. Doesn't that strike you as odd? It does to me, but opinions...
No, because that paired with countless terrorist attacks by radical Muslims afterwards leaves a negative stigma. It's the exact same way the Japanese in America were viewed suspiciously and unfavorably after Pearl Harbor. It's sad, but it's human nature to just lump people together and blame it on them, rather than realize it's far more complicated than what the face of it seems.

You could just like, not buy the game if you don't like whats in it bro.
I don't come to your house and take the dildo out of your hand.
I always felt that argument was a slippery slope. Even if you don't buy something that has a negative stigma, the message is still being sent. Unless there is massive boycotts or something.

Basically yeah. The underlying point of everything I said about the quality of the games on each platform is that, if I'm not allowed to use the fact that I don't enjoy PC games as an argument, then PC gamers aren't allowed to say that PC gaming has "more games." That would be hypocrisy. I agree with this. It all comes down to preference until you talk about a performance level to some degree, or which has more stable frames (hopefully both platforms do if the devs cared about optimization). PC elitists are cancer Agreed I understand. I just can't get into strategy games.
I really wish they'd call them something, else, though, because I like strategy, and I like strategizing, but I don't like what you do in games like Total War or Civilization or Sins of a Solar Empire or Starcraft. It's just so mind-numbingly slow-paced, and even if something happens, I stopped giving a shit ten minutes ago.
I dunno what they'd call em though. I know Total War is called RTS for Real Time Strategy, but it's combined with the in between turns of games like Civ as well. So yeah, maybe simulation would be better? But that implies it's so close to the real thing. Idk.
