As mentioned here, PS3 downloads were laughably slow compared to the 360, but it was free, and you'd expect if you're paying for Live, your DL speeds would be faster
However with PS4, while it does DL faster (seriously PS3 was a snails pace), it's silly that it's nothing compared to my PC DL speed and you have to pay for it. 2471

If it's a game people have been recommending me, or if I want to give it an HONEST shot, I say a few hours. 3 hours for me, I think. Enough time to get past whatever tutorial crap is thrown at you, and enough to get into the heart of the game. If I'm just not feeling it, I'll give up, but if I have SOMETHING that interests me, I'll try to stay interested.

Gaming / Luci's monthly game recommendation: VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action.« on: December 13, 2016, 10:46:28 PM »
Never did this before, but I will now. So hush.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/447530/ The game is VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action. Short version: It's a more relaxed version of Papers Please, VN stule Long Version: I was a bit hesitant to play it at first, mainly because Papers Please wasn't my thing. However this game is rather different. Before we start, I will say this IS a visual novel, with the bartender stuff sprinkled on top, however without all the highschool Japanese zing that comes with it, which I'm sure we all are thankful for. That may turn a lot of people off. However it isn't the You play as a bartender who serves drinks for her customers, and I thought it was gonna be some frenzy game. Turns out it's not, and it's far more relaxed. The game even recommends you get a drink, a snack, and kick back and relax. It has the anime art style to it, but the thing that REALLY got me into it was 2 things. The style it reminded me of, and the dialogue of the characters In terms of the art style, it has that 80's retro future feel to it. Instantly it reminded me of some vague Super Nintendo sci fi title, before I finally got a good feel of what it seemed to be inspired from YouTube If anyone is a fan of Kojima, you've heard of Snatcher. Not at all related to the game, it just reminded me of the general feel and the art style, and the soundtrack really helped play into that feel. It's relaxing, enjoyable, and helps you get immersed in the world they're throwing at you. I think what I enjoy the most is you can choose to give the customers the drinks they want, or you can get them completely shit faced and see the results. In turn, the story branches out into many different paths (routes, though romance isn't the main aspect of this I feel), offering much replayability. In terms of dialogue, I half expected some anime tier kinda stuff, but it's honestly actually pretty down to earth. The characters actually talk like real people, and the humor is actually done well. Again though, the main thing that really turned me onto this was the soundtrack, and how relaxing everything was. Sometimes I just need to play something where I can sit back, get away from my crappy real life issues and drama, and just enjoy something that isn't stressful, and which you don't rage quit in (looking at you, Dark Souls, Rocket League). Anyway, you can check probably better reviews on the Steam page, and the game is 6 months old now, so late here. I'm only a few hours in but really have enjoyed it so far, and anything that's voted overwhelmingly positive, both overall and recent on steam, is at least taking a gander at. There are enough shitty generic games out there that we grow tired of. I just felt I should type this though if anyone wants to try something a bit out of the norm of what they do, and if they've not checked it out yet. I'll leave you with a song I enjoyed from the game. YouTube Edit: If you don't play with scanlines on, you're doing it wrong. Makes it feel more retro and VHS like. 2474

Hm, you raise some good pints that I've not thought about with Putin coming to power. Still, a dictator isn't exactly a great person to run things.
And no, I am not saying the US is innocent of destabilizing things either, but when you're trying to disrupt 1st world western countries, I think it's far far different. Russia should be trying to work with it's European brothers, not fight them. But I'd give the US a free pass in terms of destabilizing things. Iraq taught them a lesson they forgot with Vietnam, and they're not actively trying to change nations directions that are willingly trying to go with Nato because they're terrified of Russia and how they bully the nations around them. Always loving to invade the nations around them when they want to get the least bit western. Let's not forget that they're now trying to question Finland's sovereignty, and that's just fantastic. 2479

I'd say you need to explore your interests more as well if your first instincts are to dislike something simply because a lot of people like it. Seems ironic. I try to come in with an open mind to almost everything, and a lot of times try to come at it with a non biased point of view.
And if you tend to disagree with almost everything a lot of people like, I'd say you should also take a look at your own stance and see why you dislike it. Do you dislike it because you genuinely have seen countless flaws and dislikes repetitively in these things? Or are you letting your emotions and preconceived judgments dictate your mind? This is in general, not in regards to you. I should also note that when I say "try it", I don't always mean hands on. In today's day in age, you can simply youtube gameplay/lets plays and get the full view of what you'll be getting your hands on. In terms of reviews, I only trust around 3 channels with those, and even then, reviews are only ever useful if you're on the fence. They never helped people who were for sure going to get something and try it out. But I digress. 2481

No major country does.Do people actually think Putin wants closer ties with the US?No, but I don't think he wants war with us, either. and struggle economically? They brought that on themselves with the fresh new sanctions. Their economy was on an uptic. And rooting out corruption? No I think not. If that was the case, Putin and his oligarchs wouldn't be ruling since 1999, and assassinating people who speak out against him. And sorry, but Russia being a global influence is bad if they try to continue their agenda of Anti-Europe/America and keep trying to destabilize things. 2483

It's quite literally "pls treat us as equals and lift sanctions pls and then we'll keep doing the same shit we've been doing since the USSR fell". Putin is a master at this shit. From bringing that dog to a conference with Angel Merkel, to this crap. 2484

Gaming / Re: Convince me to play Witcher 3« on: December 10, 2016, 06:16:43 PM »But Undertale was critically acclaimed across the board too, right? Obviously they're two vastly different games, but what about Undertale's success makes it a meme worth disregarding and not Witcher 3?Might not be the best example, but Undertale at first was amazingly received for what it did, before being blown out of control by the Tumblr crowd, which is how it went so viral. Quote Is it that stupid when the general populace as a whole doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to making things popular? Call of Duty. Justin Bieber. Bayformers. Kardashians.Of all those listed, you only gave me one video game, which is held to a standard far differently than the others listed. Call of Duty I'm sure everyone has tried, and yeah I'd say give it a shot before you end up hating it. Only problem is they all play exactly the same, and that's why everyone hates it now. We've already all played it and know what to expect. But when things such as writing, world building, and character development are the top things something gets praised for, across all boards, it's something at least looking into, rather than disregarding as a Call of Duty tier of popular. It's all about context. 2486
Gaming / Re: Convince me to play Witcher 3« on: December 10, 2016, 12:32:40 PM »With all the circlejerking around it, I've been avoiding picking it up. The obnoxious fanbase has put me off wanting to play it.Sorry, but sometimes this bugs me. Saying people are circlejerking when a game is both critically acclaimed across the review and player base board, usually means it's actually REALLY fucking good, and not people just obsessing over the next hot meme like Undertale. Especially when its expansion, Blood and Wine, beats out any other RPG this year for GoTY and is basically counted as a new game in of itself. The mindset of "just because it's popular and everyone loves it, I'M not gonna love it!" without even trying it out, is stupid enough as it is. 2487
