You might also want to look at the description of their tech again also. They can kill us, this is supposed to be the biggest threat in the game. Their cannons disentigrate metal. And their rifles can slice through it as well. The point is that we need to be working together to fight him,we aren't as strong against them as you think.

The Brotherhood of Steel has T-51b and T-45d power armors from back west. And they own all of Virginia, which I think where Davetown is.
I'm pretty sure they don't have t51-b. that's why he wanted me to allow him some access to the anchorage vault tech.
