And that's fine if that is what suits your taste, but what I was saying is you went into the movie with the wrong expectations, and that is why it disappointed you. Basically, you THOUGHT it would suit your tastes, but it didn't. It's still objectively a good movie because it perfected what it set out to do, and I'm only saying it deserves the praise it gets.
Again, I'm not about to get into an argument about film, but just because a director might have intentionally focused drastically more on one element of a good action film, doesn't mean their negligence towards the others can be ignored because it was "Intentional." You could apply this to any bad movie and justify its quality with, "Well, that's the kind of film he meant it to be."

I was told it was "The best action film in years," and that's what I went in expecting.
Yup. That's exactly what it was in objective terms. It wasn't trying to tell an amazing story, it wasn't trying to pretend to be something it isn't, it was trying to be a fun action movie. That's what you should have been expecting, especially if you had seen the previous Mad Max films, because even the first one, which is the most plot-heavy one, doesn't have much of an impressive plot.

What you went in expecting was a really great action movie that also had a good story, but that wasn't what you should have been expecting, and that's why you were disappointed.

But the characters were pretty good as far as I'm concerned. The plot was simple and was just there to carry the action along.
Moves that don't have good characters or interesting plots are not "Good" to me, sorry. I don't really care if they set out to create something without those two qualities, those two qualities are what I need for a movie to be good. It's not even that the plot was bad, it was just boring. It was a circle, and that's it. Through sand.

I'm not really one to get into arguments about film and television, because there's so much subjectivity. I'll just say I did not feel invested in any of the characters at all, and did not find the plot particularly interesting. The civilization and how it survived was more interesting to me than the prospect of escaping it.

I disagree. I was told it was "The best action film in years," and that's what I went in expecting. None of my friends wanted to see it, and I convinced them that it was going to be good. I got great action, but was severely underwhelmed by other elements of the film that I expected to be better. I wasn't a fan of the "We got where we wanted, it's not here anymore, let's go back to where we started" style of story.

Based on the amount of positive feedback I'd heard about the film, I expected to be blown away. But I really, honestly wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was good. But a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes? Glorious action scenes (Admittedly some of the best I've ever seen) don't compensate for weak characters and a very boring plot to me. It was like a 7/10 film for me, mostly forgettable.
The plot was there to hold the action together, and it did what it set out to do just fine. It wasn't trying to be a plot-heavy film, and George Miller has already shown he can make a movie like that anyway.

It was an objectively close to perfect movie because it did what it set out to do perfectly.
That's wonderful for him, but I didn't really enjoy it as much as everyone else.

Astronomy right now. Through a misunderstanding in the school, I ended up being put in the Astronomy major despite switching to undeclared over the Summer. But when I figured this out, I said, "Well, why not give it a shot? It was my dream, after all." So I'm going to see how next semester goes, and hopefully all is well. I'm very prepared to change out if need be, though.

Tru is getting raped

Verb's in the corner with a grimace

Das is singling out minorities

Jive and I are lifting

Max is getting bullied by people half his age

Charlie is masturbating in the bathroom

Or something like that.

Oh, fuck off. You can do without Sep7, but you still go on it every day.
And that's stupid. Yes. I know. What's your point? It's not AS stupid as getting drunk. I'm not altering my perception of reality.
So doing anything for the sake of enjoyment alone is "stupid" in your eyes.
Correct.
What a needlessly bleak way to live life.

That's enhancement. But it's temporary. And it's not even counting the damage it does to your body. Even if it's bad, it still heightens your abilities.
You can do without it.
I can do without most things that give me pleasure. But I still do them.
I call that "idiocy".

It was a mistake. People make mistakes. You learned your lesson and presumably won't do it again.
I shouldn't have made the mistake. It's completely undoable.

I'll never be able to say, "I've been sober for my entire life." Ever.
Get over it.

I remember you telling me after you got drunk once, you wanted to kill yourself. To be completely honest, that's pathetic. To have such a low sense of worth that the act of getting drunk makes you consider whether you want to be alive is embarrassing and sad.
Okay? Am I supposed to care or something?

Everyone who's ever been drunk should be just as ashamed of themselves as I am.
Don't impose your pseudo-ethical garbage onto other people. Remember when you said that only about 5000 people had ever contributed anything good to the world? You think any of them ever got drunk? Or does that degrade their character beyond the point of redemption in your eyes?

Most people are FUCKING IDIOTS.
There's a difference between criticism and pretentiousness. This is just pretentiousness.
No, it's a fact.

The fact that most people have been drunk before the LEGAL DRINKING AGE is a sad, pitiful reflection of society, and it makes me hate fucking everybody. And it depresses me further that I've contributed to it. I can't ever take back the first time I got drunk, and it makes me want to fucking die.
It's really not a rejection of society that warrants concern, the practicality of requiring somebody to be twenty-one before they can drink is very arguable.

Yeah you don't care about personal liberty until the government tries to take away something you do care about.
The point is that you shouldn't care about guns.
That's your opinion
Of course, but I don't exactly see a practical reason besides home defense that would warrant the necessity of a gun, and like I said, I believe that can be resolved through other means. Why do you need a gun, barring that? What practical benefit does gun ownership have?

I have done very little thinking into the issue of gun control, for some reason. That being said, it seems very obvious to me that guns should not be publicly available under any circumstances. I can't really think of a good reason to have a gun.

Somebody critique me.
Personal liberty and home security
See now, "Personal liberty" doesn't really mean much to me, because that's sort of arbitrary. I really couldn't care less if a person feels they're being deprived of freedom because I won't let them have something designed for the purpose of killing another human being. Home security is a different story, but I feel like that can be avoided with better security systems. I also wonder how many people are killed from home invasions each year, in comparison to those killed in mass shooting.
