I'm reading about the history of Mata Nui

My mind is being fucked

Like Jesus Christ this is crazy huge in terms of scale.
If you get through all of it can you give a summary, because I spent hours reading the lore and eventually gave up.
Dude no chance I'll be able to read all of this.

It's nuts.

In 2010 they released "Bionicle Stars," which was a set of a few really cool characters and armors.

LIKE THE RAHKSHI OF HEAT VISION OMG THIS IS SICK

Like, the lore is so much more intensive than you'd expect. It's like something out of an ancient Mythology.

One hundred thousand years ago Teridax was "created" by the Great Spirit Mata Nui as a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta, whose job was to create and alter Rahi as needed; the Brotherhood soon also took on the job of protecting Mata Nui's chosen people, the Matoran. Teridax was put specifically in charge of the city of Metru Nui and its surrounding region by the leader of the Brotherhood, Miserix. In this time, Mata Nui and Teridax were so close that they were considered "brothers."

At one point eighty thousand years ago, the Brotherhood had discovered through the traitor Takadox that a military alliance called the League of Six Kingdoms was plotting no less than the overthrow of Mata Nui himself. The Brotherhood, allied with Mata Nui's champions, the Toa, and Teridax led a preemptive strike against the League and their leaders, six warlords titled "Barraki." The operation was a complete success, and all six Barraki were captured, but as Teridax was about to execute them a stranger named Botar appeared. He and Teridax argued over the fate of the Barraki until Botar finally teleported away, taking the Barraki to the Pit with him. Though Teridax would occasionally wonder about the stranger and what he had done with the Barraki, he would more often consider the League's ultimate goal, and concluded that a Barraki was ultimately unworthy to replace the Great Spirit. However, he then began thinking about taking over the Matoran Universe himself.

And that's like 1/15th of the page on Teridax.

Disappointing, those sets are much less inspired than previous Bionicle iterations.

There's just no room for creativity with these, really. Plus they keep reusing parts, and the parts that they're reusing are kind of shitty.

Man, I never appreciated this as much as I should have as a kid.

This was really well-made.
is the bionicle lore something worth looking into

it seems surprisingly rich
I remember reading about the comics that were issued around the series' end, and if I remember right, the lore was really extensive, for a kids' franchise. Like, the lore of the story goes way bigger in scale than just "Toa fight the forces of Makuta." It's insane how big it is.

Can we stop arguing about whether or not Bionicles are a good toy, and just have this thread be for the people who do like them? I'm not saying "If you aren't a fan, get out!" I'm just saying there's no point in making this an argumentative thread. Bionicles are fun, and we should be talking about why we liked them.

You didn't need to take apart Vezon. Only Axonn, Brutaka, and Fenrak.
:o

Well, I liked his spider-bro, too  :D

OH SHIT

Did anyone else have that Bionicle wildlife book?

I remember getting it at a book fair when I was like six.

Basically, fans submitted their own Bionicle creatures, and they published a whole catalog of them with their own descriptions, habitats, and backstories. That shit was amazing. I'll see if I can find it.

those two and vezon are my favorites

I had everyone I needed to make this guy, but Vezon was too cool for me to want to dismantle.

man, those look amazing

i was a poor kid, so i never really got to build any of the bigger crazier models like those
Sucks, but the good thing about Bionicles was that even if you couldn't buy the more expensive ones, nothing stopped you from making your own to up the scale. As a kid I had my own universe of unique characters and stories that I'd always come back to whenever I played with them. I basically had a giant-ass narrative from my first Bionicle to my last.

Favorites inbound:

The Piraka and the Barraki were literally the most badass motherfuckers on the planet.

God, I know I said "Favorites," but I loved all the Bionciles. I can only think of a handful up until 2007 that I didn't buy.

Yeah, they rebooted it this year.
awesome
Not as awesome as they use to be. I was out with a few friends just walking around Walmart one night and came across the rebooted Kopaka, and bought it on impulse. Looks cool, but the parts are... Weird. All of the armor plating on his body is hinged with ball sockets, so the move around in a really awkward, easily-detachable way. They don't hold together as well as they use to.

But Bionicles are still literally the best toy ever.

Depends on the law, obviously.

Like, I don't wear my shoes while driving all the time (Which is illegal), but I don't see that as a problem. Sometimes I jaywalk. Sometimes I drive over the speed limit. Certain laws have some leeway depending on their strictness, and I think that's reasonable.

I really don't mind. Doesn't matter if I have to snow-blow the driveway, or stay in the nights the weather gets kind of extreme. Snow has always been something I look forward to, everything looks beautiful out and my favorite constellations are in the sky. Makes for good telescope conditions because there's less distortion in cold air.

1313 sounded cool, so I'd like that to get developed.

But a Republic Commando sequel would be awesome.

Shame the Jerjerrod scenes got cut. It actually gave character to him. Shows that some of the officers actually had a conscience...
It makes sense that they were cut out, though. It's a character development that doesn't actually lead to anything.
