The Flood / Re: Today I bench'd my entire bodyweight
« on: December 03, 2015, 04:45:16 PM »
muh confidence is based on how striated muh muscles are
My confidence was based on whether or not I felt comfortable in my own body. I saw myself in videos and pictures, and wasn't particularly happy. Regardless of whether not you believe that it's necessary to feel proud of your body to be pleased with yourself, it is for many people. And is there honestly a problem with that? What promotes a sense of pride varies on a person-to-person basis. If muscle building and/or aesthetic goals are your priority, and they help you become a happier, healthier, and more confident individual, what's the problem? Exercise requires consistent dedication, discipline, effort, and patience. All of those are noble things to have under your belt.

Resistance training is therapeutic to many people, including myself. I feel no better sense of accomplishment and satisfaction after a long day's work than finishing my workout at the gym, showering, and eating a good meal. It's been proven to significantly support stress relief, and even mitigate symptoms of depression. Weight training isn't for everybody, because not everyone aims to get huge muscles. But for those of us that get enjoyment out of it, why are you so damn pretentious towards the concept?
because from an outsider's point of view, that's what it's like for me
Congratulations. But many things don't necessarily appeal to us, despite them having potential fantastic benefits for other people-- What makes one person happy isn't universal to all of mankind. I'm not going to hold anything against a person's choices if he or she isn't hurting anybody, and are contributing towards their happiness in a reasonable, productive way.

The angrier people get at Muslims because of acts of terror
This phenomenon doesn't even exist; Muslims became more popular in the wake of 9/11 in the U.S. and Charlie Hebdo in France. Westerners, believe it or not, are capable of nuanced thought.
As far as I'm aware, contempt towards the Islamic community increases whenever this sort of attack happens. I honestly just don't believe you, because everything I read and observe suggests otherwise.
Pew Research
"Of course, it is important to note that even though there was no broad public-opinion backlash in France or the U.S., violence against Muslims increased in both countries following the attacks. Among the small minority of people with extremely negative views, some may become more likely to turn to violence after such incidents.

It is also worth noting that favorable ratings of Muslim Americans declined slightly following the post-9/11 bounce. By 2007, just 53% of Americans expressed a positive view, down 6 percentage points from the November 2001 survey though still significantly higher than the 45% in the March 2001 poll.

Moreover, the view that Islam is more likely than other religions to encourage violence among its believers has become more common over time. In March 2002, just months after 9/11, only 25% of Americans said Islam is more likely to encourage violence, but this jumped to 44% by July 2003. And the last time we asked the question, in September 2014, fully half of Americans (50%) expressed this view."

Spoiled the whole fucking plot, Jesus.
we already knew literally everything in this trailer except for the parademons.
I didn't.
all the information to figure this stuff out was freely available to the public. if you didnt care enough to have learned these things already, why whine about it when they make it a little more overt in a trailer?
Because I believe that ruining the plot of a film is a bad idea and makes it less enjoyable. Don't really care if they did it before this, they shouldn't have done it at all.
spoiling plot elements in trailers has been the industry standard for a very long time. if you really cared enough to not get spoiled you should have just gone dark and not watched all the trailers after the initial teaser.
Yes, and the fact that trailers constantly spoil important aspects of a film is pretty heavily criticized nowadays. I don't care enough about this movie for it to be a huge deal. but I'm more than welcome to call it stupid.

And please explain to me what "Dense, practical muscle" is, and why bench pressing does not build it.

Really, I'm curious.

muscle building, not muscle strength. A lot of bulk and aesthetics, not dense, practical muscle.
Sorry dude, but you have no idea what you're talking about.

When will you ever need to bench press outside of bench pressing? Never

Plus, you get chest strength from pushups and other more useful exercises anyway
If you qualify "More useful exercises" as "Exercises that will promote more strength" (And what other definition could you possibly mean?), then that's just false. Bench Pressing is one of the most effective muscle-building exercises for your front delts and chest, and bodyweight push-ups will never be as efficient. Unless you put plates on your back, you'll really never be able to progressively overload on your chest to any serious degree.

Oh, nice dude! That's a big accomplishment-

*Everybody in this thread is arguing about whether or not lifting is useful*

Will people ever just shut the fuck up and let others enjoy things? Jesus Christ. Guy makes good progress on a lift, like four guys hijack the thread and bitch about "Muh practical applications." It's lifting, you do it to get stronger, clear your head, and feel confident. Stop whining.

Serious / Re: What are your plans for the future?
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:58:42 PM »
I really do want to know who I'll marry in the future.

I mean, I have no idea what'll happen to my girlfriend over the next few years, but we've done pretty damn well for ourselves in the face of really nasty disagreements and questions about whether or not we should be together. At least, all of that stuff beat the hell out of our relationship when we first got back together, but now? Pfft, I'm shocked we've managed to become so stable of a couple. I honestly thought me going to college would kill what we had, but we still love each other in spite of only spending time together every two or three weeks. Maybe we are a really good team.

Hope it stays that way, but you gotta keep your head up together to make that happen, y'know? We seem to be doing that far better than I ever could've hoped.

But of course, you had to whip out your pseudo-intellectualism and argue about whether or not "Jacked" conforms to your limited, uninformed perception of what type of body qualifies under its definition. Give me a break.

The Flood / Re: How can you like MLP and not be a tranny?

literally all winy said was that he was jacked and used to be a brony (on topic) and you went and derailed the thread

just stop
just seemed like an obnoxious and unwarranted humble-brag, so i felt the need to take him down a notch

big deal
Oh, piss off.

Literally all you do is boast about how "Smart" you are, you just fucking said "I'm very funny."

I'm allowed some self-gratification here and there considering I seldom say a damn thing about my physique. And your attempt at "Taking me down a notch" backfired considering everybody else just disagreed with you. The first thing I said was a damn joke, and it was a hop off of what Fruit said on the first page.

The Flood / Re: How can you like MLP and not be a tranny?

and to the general public, i would assume that most people associate "jackedness" with that of body-builders

i could be dead wrong on that, but that's the assumption i'm gonna make there
As somebody who has more experience than you in literally every way with this subject, it isn't.

Holy shit

Which one of us knows more about bodybuilding and the fitness community?

For once, I know more about something than you do. It's okay to be wrong.

Jesus
yes, i'm so sure that there's a comprehensive compendium detailing the subtle nuances of such esoteric terms as "shredded" and "jacked," carefully constructed meticulously by the mysterious Swole Scribes
Yeah, because in your apparently vast and expansive knowledge of the human language, you obviously know that that's exactly how all definitions come to be established and used. Jesus Christ you're annoying.

let's not even go that dumbass route

Let's be realistic here: using bodybuilding as a reference isn't very fair because it's a life consuming hobby that's also very unhealthy. Winy is the healthy kind of jacked: he has large and defined musculature and a healthy looking amount of bodyfat.
he is not jacked

that's just far too hyperbolic

and it's also devaluing the work people actually put in to become jacked
Again, people in the fitness community usually prefer calling bodybuilders "Shredded."

Just saying.

Bodybuilders get their own term - "Shredded."

Helps to be involved in the fitness community to understand the actual, established definitions of what certain terms refer to, especially talking about something as varied and fluid as somebody's physique.

"Jacked (of a person) - having very well-developed muscles."

Well looks like I check out in that category.
well-developed muscles =/= "VERY" well-developed muscles

like i said, that's reserved for body-builders

i'm sorry i have to be the one to take you down a notch
Says who? You?

You ain't a dictionary. Sorry bub.

I mean I was a Brony four years ago but now I'm fucking jacked, so there must be a correlation.
lmao you're not jacked, get the fuck out of here
When was the last time you saw a picture of me shirtless?
you have muscles--you're not jacked

bodybuilders are jacked
Spoiler
Well, the vast majority of people who've judged my physique seem to classify me as "Jacked," but I suppose the word has leeway.
i'm sure people have called you "beast" before, too, but are you actually a large angry four-legged animal?
"Jacked (of a person) - having very well-developed muscles."
