How do I do both of the things you said I should do?
Download the BGB emulator and set it up, a google search of BGB should bring it up You then go to Emu paradise and search for Pokemon Red, and then you download the ISO to that and then the site's guide to setting up the emulation should show you the rest

I use the term "stealing" here very loosely.
Not really, at least not back then. The only system which is legally grey is getting the BIOS files for the PS2. All other systems emulators are 100% fine though if I remember correctly.

Yes, it is. If you have a copy of the game, there's no reason you'd just buy it again, unless you felt bad about stealing it.
I mean, if you do that then cool I guess, but a lot of people, if they like the game, will go on to support the series further. I mean if he likes this, the he'll get to the point of where he'll have to get a DS/3DS seems you can't emulate them yet, and that will start driving sales. Actually that's a point, the original DS supported gameboy games. That might be the best way to get into the series.

If you have any ROMs downloaded (which are easy enough to find), you use the emulator to load them up.
How do I get one? Is there a walkthrough? I am confused
I believe the most popular gameboy one is BGB gameboy emulator, should be a walkthrough on their site.

An emulator is a program used to virtually reproduce a console or system. Basically it's a way to play an older system on your PC, but emulation overall is just when a system tricks a program into thinking that it's a PS2 for example. You download ISO's for the game online, and you can start reproducing the experience of that system fully with games. The one in question here would be using a program, which there are a few ones for gameboy, to basically play Pokemon without having to buy a gameboy or the game. Great way to play the older games seems the dev probably won't be getting the money anymore really.

I'd like it to go away. I know I'm bitter, but after Dark Souls 2, I don't have high hopes. And before anyone says "But Miyazaki-chan is working on it!" look at Bloodborne. Is anyone still talking about that?
Dark Souls 2 was a good game though, Bloodborne appealed to a niche portion of the player base as well so that's why it doesn't get much talk anymore.
