One thing I would point out is that Kiyo has actually been very fair when it comes to moderation (From what I have seen) despite having strong personal opinions that nearly always run into an argument (Check Serious for this one, but here as well) I haven't seen anyone banned or silenced for having a different opinion.
So provided that they are doing a good job of moderation, although on a site like this people don't really need keeping in line the same way that they do on Bungie and it mostly comes down to extinguishing flamewars with a lock, there shouldn't really be a huge issue as to their status.
If you look at bungie and that idiot Predator, who was banning people for being pro-equality, then it's easy to see why he shouldn't be a mod. But I don't see kiyo banning people for being christian on here, yet. <.<
tl;dr Mods don't need to be 2D robots, as long as they keep their banning/locking appropriate then it shouldn't really matter what they do when they aren't in Moderator mode. Maybe on bungie, I'll give you that but on a smaller close-knit place like here, they don't need to have the same stick up their ass.
