The Flood / Re: Ever wonder what happened to your childhood friends?
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:27:57 AM »
Hmm, well unfortunately I was the one who moved away <.<
Which sucked.

I've only really been able to contact two of my childhood friends, one via facebook and the other because our mum's were friends. We were also born on the same hospital ward precisely 12 hours apart <.<

When I went to meet up with them again... considering I last saw them when I was five or so... it was... unnerving ._.
/End of that bit

Then my two best friends from the school that I moved to moved to the other end of the country, they were identical twins <.< God that sucked. We saw them a couple of times over the last 8 years when we went down to near where they lived or vis versa, it's just kind of strange how they grew up compared to how I did <.<

I ended up with more srsnss than ebola and they are still quite carefree, but ah well >.>

Actually, I read a paper in my AP Lang class about how the U.S. education system was based on Prussia's and that sepaying individuals based on ability was one of the things they did.
IMO: yeah it's great not to deal with stupid people in class, but the long term effects of separating the stupid from the smart might create a class system where those who are smart look down upon those who aren't. Heck, it might even make it so that people who are born to those that are in the lowest section will stay in the lowest section.

Weeell the UK already has a Class system so I suppose that's why it's not really a huge deal <.<

Yeah, in America they're called "tracks", and we got rid of them a long time ago for good reason. It fucks with kids' minds, makes them start getting superiority and inferiority complexes early in life.

I don't think it worked like that over here, at least in my school it didn't <.<
Perhaps it wasn't as rigorous/enforced or something, but yeah...

How is everyone enjoying the punga fruit I sent you?

It's very tasty <.<
I'll send a crate of Tea as thanks.

And the BoS doesn't have any Vertibirds at the moment, at least not in DC and the ones in the Florida purge are less than reliable <.<

When I do a general update rather than a florida purge update, I expect Texas will be doing quite well seeing as it's been 10 pages ._.

I quite like the guy but he was talking a load of shit right there.

The only valid point he raised was that the UK doesn't exactly hold the moral highground in terms of interventionism. That doesn't mean that Russia should be allowed to sodomise Ukraine into the NuSSR though.

The outcasts are loyal to the true brotherhood ways. They are only "outcasts" from the DC branch.

In Canon perhaps, but in this game the DC Branch ethos is the official ethos of the BoS.
But either way, I'll help you purge the mutants.

(Tactical Irony inbound)

I'll deploy the 1st DC Auxiliary company to assist you, the wastelanders that caused you to split off will be the ones saving your asses in Point Lookout :D

The Flood / Re: Why don't we just dump all our trash in volcanoes?
« on: September 03, 2014, 05:10:57 PM »
The trouble is that it would release massive amounts of all kinds of pollutants straight into the atmosphere. Let alone the fact that dumping billions of tonnes of waste into a caldera could potentially cause it to blow.

It's an amusing thought but it wouldn't lead to anything good, it's better to just focus on cutting waste and reclaiming useful materials from landfills. And people buying tonnes of pointless plastic crap needs to stop too .-.

I messaged Vien privately. You can ask him

I'll take your word for it, I don't feel like bothering him over this.

However, you do need to dial back the godmode m80, the bomber will take a while to raise and reverse engineering is a feat that should take a long time. Not have you able to shart out 3 squadrons of Bfittytwos in 2 pages.

So dial it back, pick a more conservative estimate for them and it's all good <.<

And this is a fairly moot point anyway because the game has gone full on prison grape for the graffs .-.

Alrighty Kinderbueno

I'm calling fun police here.

PAGE 24
Van Graff scouts find sunken bomber whilst bathing in Lake Mead. Plans are being made to lift the aircraft out of the water and take it to a disclosed location to being work on it in hopes of it being operational again
Quote

PAGE 25
Van Graff have a HQ in the highly populated NCR city of Redding and a casino/store in the infamous city of New Reno. Attacking these two locations would cause the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians and bring about a large number of recruits to join the Van Graffs in revenge

Our 3rd location is situated in the town of Bitter Root, a sort of homeland for the Khans and desecrating it  would be equivalent to desecrating the Khans themselves

The Van Graffs have also completed the reconstruction of the B-52 bomber that was sunken in Lake Mead and have it on standby to conduct a bombing raid against the Khans with a large supply of mini-nukes. It's advsed that the Khans stand down or face total destruction

Expect the Van Graffs to reverse-engineer this B-52 and have the ability to produce at least 3 squadrons of it by the end of page 28

Fun Police: When did you contact the boomers? When did you spend several months doing the equivalent of Volare! to earn their trust? Why would they just help you raise their precious lady of the lake?

Show it from previous pages OR, it looks like the Fun Police™ will have to decide if the bomber is still at the bottom of the lake.

A side note to a few people in general, try to remember the scale we are looking at in this game. It's a lot smaller than the UN one, especially considering how everything got fucked up by nuclear missiles. Whilst superpowers like the Legion and NCR are going to be big, smaller dogs do need to try to remember to keep things proportionate <.<

Anything to add from other GMs?

+++BoS Combat Dispatch+++

[My knowledge of florida outside of bath salts, cannibalism and Dexter is very limited. So a little slack must be cut here >.> But either way this should be entertaining]

++++++++++++++++++++++++

After advancing the first and second brigades into the wasteland proper, minor skirmishes have been fought with the local... 'Fauna'... and Flora. Mutants, freaks, warped creatures and inbred humans have been encountered by both brigades.

Spoiler
++++++++++++++++++++++++

1st Brigade advancing in wide dispersal pattern from Georgia, approaching what appears to be some kind of hive dwelling. Resistance is increasing, two paladins injured by IEDs.

2nd Brigade advancing with ease towards the ruins of Tallahassee, Radiation readings spiked, circumventing the city. This may explain the lack of inbred screamers, two Carnifexes have been sighted but were not engaged.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

1st Brigade sends scouts into the hive to assess the threat, they return under fire within an hour and a horde of screamers hot on their heels. A new form of mutant has been catalogued, see attached report.

Mutant Class: Berserker
Spoiler

+++Documentation of Floridian Mutant class: Berserker complete+++

A larger form of the screamer, charges into close combat with it's bare fists. Posses unnatural strength rivalling that of a Super Mutant. Possible and likely result of Greenies mating with Screamers ._. Repulsive and dangerous, but vulnerable to energy weapons fire thankfully. Advisory sent to TC mercenaries about how to deal with them.

Threat level: High, Priority target.

Advance continues, More reports to follow.

Well it appears that with the Raider-BoS agreement signed and with the TC mercenary force in position the purge of northern florida can commence.

The target is the Jacksonville naval base, which must be captured with as much of it intact as possible.

I completely agree.

I think too much emphasis is placed on higher education, too. It's being turned into an extension of college, pretty much. To much credentialism and too high prices are going to force universities to start offering services commensurate with the price. People of lower intelligence aren't, as many of us assume, placed in a position of a net negative outcome.

People like that are the apprentices and the labourers of our society. The plumbers and the electricians - people who find their calling in more vocational work.

Indeed <.<

I'm glad that you weren't affected by it, but there's definitely a relationship between wealth/background and educational prowess. Richer parents are also usually the higher educated ones, so they are a lot more likely to stimulate their child intellectually, be more invested in their education and have their child aim "higher" for a future with a higher end college degree.

I'm not saying that programs like the US Common Core or "no child left behind" are the right way of going about this, but it's hard to deny that there is a problem here.

I'm not too familiar with the US systems for this but yeah <.<

I suppose I was just somewhat lucky on that front then but it really does strike me like this.

I have to ask, even if there is a correlation with wealth - who cares?

I agree with Commissar that poorer kids can grow up in an environment not conducive to learning, but the solution is never to punish the children doing well, even if the majority of them come from affluent background.

Whilst I'm not generally of the capitalist mindset for things, I am inclined that way over education.

Some people are born bright and should be allowed to burn at their full potential, some people are born blunt and should still be given the opportunity to flourish but not at the cost of the most able. So something along the lines of a meritocracy >.>
