If I ever get into power, I'll scrap Personal Statements all together ._.

The most loathesome piece of writing I've ever had the misfortune to read, you cannot be modest and you have to sound like either a complete tool or an utter twat.

I count myself lucky for not actually having to do one myself <.<

Not quite half and half but only slightly slanted towards male.

I have a lot of OSTs too <.<

When the new CoD is out, it's going to tank hard and bungle will be left with their dicks in their hands.
Say what you want about COD, but at least there is weapon & emblem customization, a fun factor with the right people and the ability to be a team killing fucktard.

Indeed, I actually quite enjoy CoD on occasion but it's not what I'd play as a primary game. More of a pick up and fuck around for a while sort of game >.>

I believe that at this point, if a game didn't have a "vidya shotgun" then everyone would call it unrealistic.
Look what I found a couple of pages away from that article:
Quote
Don't try to say Homo Sapiens on Bungie.net. Why? Because they will be -blam!- Sapiens. Yes, the filter replaces swears with -blam!-, as it was Halo's second codename. The first one was Monkey Nuts, and was changed when Bungie founder Jason Jones (no relation to the one on The Daily Show) wanted to tell his mother about the game.
They have a similar problem with naming a custom map in Halo 3. Among others, you can't use the word assault... even though there's a game type called "Assault"!

That always pissed me off, it's like in Age of Empires 3.
You can't call something a Fortification because fica is an italian swearword. Fucking censorship o.e

Do you support it or not? And it what contexts?
Yes, for crimes against children and animals. You burn a puppy to death, you shouldn't be allowed to steal everyone else's oxygen any more. You rape a child, you shouldn't be allowed to continue your existence. End of.

Do you follow the belief of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth or do you believe in rehabilitation?
I do believe in rehabilitation, for some. Some people simply cannot be rehabilitated, they will either spend their life in jail or be released and harm an innocent. It is kinder, quicker and simpler to execute them and be done with it.
Eye for an Eye can be satisfying, but it doesn't actually lead to a better society. Just a more brutal one.

Do you support forms of execution like hanging and the firing squad?
Lethal Injection is a nice idea but executed terribly (badum tish), it should simply be scrapped. The chair should also be scrapped, this isn't the fucking dark ages anymore. Hanging or Firing Squad, but as Das has pointed out, it's going to lead to some serious psychological problems for those pulling the triggers, unless you hire psychopaths to do it that is <.<

So hanging is preferable.

I just look at it as the simplest, most efficient way to solve a problem. Some people are a danger to the health of society, some are lower than scum and some are beyond any form of help. Protecting the innocent from harm should be the priority in the justice system, if someone is in any way likely to kill, rape or maim again then they should just be hanged and be done with it. Their suffering is at a quick end, they don't waste taxpayer's money rotting in a cell playing on a playstation and those who have been wronged can be at peace.

It doesn't have to be arbitrary and it should only be used for extreme cases where there is irrefutable DNA, video or forensic evidence. EWT is unreliable as fuck and should NEVER EVER be the basis for a death penalty sentence.
You have a beautiful way of saying things way better than I ever could.

Heh, the same can be said of you <.<

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the shotguns in Battlefield. You can use them as a sniper rifle.

Yeah, well imagine the people who have to live their entire lives dealing with this kind of bullcrap on a regular basis.
Gee, I wonder where those mental problems actually come from.

Oh, I know <.<
I'm fairly certain that a large part of Dysphoria is directly rooted in the ignorant mistreatment that people receive for being different. As you highlighted, people just need to treat others with more respect ._.

The reason I sighed was because it's irritating how inevitable the degradation of these conversations is, it stifles any actual debate/information with petty semantic sniping and the usual insult slinging.

Transsexualism has the same definition as being transgender.
Stupid.
Transgender is an umbrella term for anyone who is gender nonconforming.
Transsexual refers for to people that have undergone procedures to change their anatomy.

^That should wrap it up actually <.<
In terms of the semantics debate.

Serious / Re: Is transgenderism a mental disorder?

I may be wrong, but I thought "transgender" referred to people who changed their sex.
See, to me, that doesn't make any sense.

A change of sex should be called transexual. Which it is.

Indeed it is, but the person would be referred to as transgender because they have altered their gender (Say from male to female) and a part of this process is to alter their biological sex to match their 'new' outward gender which would also be their 'true' gender as it is the one that their mind aligns with.

I suspect that sounds as convoluted as it's possible to get but maybe it makes sense >.>

Serious / Re: Is transgenderism a mental disorder?

One more question.

Does transgenderism cause dysphoria, or does dysphoria cause transgenderism?
I may be wrong, but I thought "transgender" referred to people who changed their sex. So the dysphoria (thinking that you're a different sex to begin with) would lead to the transgenderism.

It is generally used that way, but it doesn't solely refer to those who have had reassignment surgery.
Transgenderism is something that you are 'born with' in the same manner as homosexuality, dysphoria is the term for the mental disorder that arises from the conflict between mind and body.

One more question.

Does transgenderism cause dysphoria, or does dysphoria cause transgenderism?

Transgenderism would cause Dysphoria as far as I know <.<

Since you are born like that, and Dysphoria doesn't happen to everyone who is born like that >.>
I could be wrong though.

I was going to avoid this thread until tomorrow but what the heck.

I won't get involved in the argument itself, but I'll raise a few points that I think are important to note.
The entire debate is a minefield of semantics, getting bogged down in an argument over that is a bit pointless so anyway <.<

Basic points of terminology
Gender - Male or Female
Sex - Male or Female
(I'm not being -convoluted insult-ist to anyone, I'm just keeping this simple for the sake of brevity.)

MyNameIsCharlie said something quite a while back, to the effect of this
We don't understand a lot about the human brain, is it really too farfetched to consider the possibility of people being born with the 'wrong' brain (Male/Female) in regards to their genitals.
Then there is the question of 'Are they actually born with the wrong one?' and that's where it starts to lead into semantics. It is Abnormal, but that doesn't denote that it is wrong or incorrect. Just a rare occurrence.

There have been several high profile and abhorrent experiments that have demonstrated how much of a bad idea it is to try and force someone's brain/mind to fit into a category that it does not belong. David Reiner for example. I don't know of any happy endings where someone has had their mental state reassigned to match their genitalia, but I know of plenty of miserable endings.

Gender Dysphoria would be where the disconnect between the Gender of the Brain and Body causes distress and problems for the individual.

So if changing the mind causes catastrophic damage and changing the body to match the mind does not... which seems like the right path to take for treatment?

The question of if it's a mental disorder isn't one that can be answered properly, It can cause mental disorders but I would call it a condition rather than disorder. It is something different about the person, it doesn't mean they are crazy or unwell. Calling it a mutation is also short-sighted as that would imply that it's a solely genetic cause, which I doubt it is.

In terms of how you should 'treat' and treat people who are transgender, it's really quite simple.
Treat them as a normal human being, with respect and dignity and don't obsess over the fact that they are different from the norm. In terms of medical treatment, I would say reassignment (physical) is the proper route to take (If that is what they wish) but that doesn't necessarily make it a disorder.

Transgenderism IS linked to mental illness, but that does not, one more time for emphasis DOES NOT MEAN that it is a mental illness.

I hope this all makes sense, feel free to challenge or discuss any of it.

But do me a favour, if it's going to be over semantics then don't. That's a dead end and is simply an argument for the sake of an argument rather than a discussion over the topic ._.

Spoiler
Happy now meta?

The DSM-5 is a joke.
Why?

As meta has half said <.<

The DSM-5 is... well, to call it a joke is a little too harsh. It's not all bollocks but it is full of a load of crap, it's still really fucking expensive so I haven't been able to find a copy to read it properly for myself but there are a lot of Psychiatrists/Psychologists/Doctors who have called it out over several entries.

It's just not regarded with a lot of esteem by a significant portion of the people who work in that sector.

(I haven't read the entry on Dysphoria so I'm not commenting on it's quality over that, I'm coming back to this thread tomorrow)
