There is actually a point and purpose to it in terms of evolutionary biology iirc.
Bear in mind, this was something I read about 5 years ago so my memory is probably a little hazy but here we go <.<
It's the exchange of pathogens/antibodies in the saliva which basically gives the other person's immune system information about diseases encountered by the other person. The idea being to give the mother of any potential offspring a better chance at fighting off potential infections or something.
If anyone knows of the actual study/research then that could be helpful, but this is just something I have in the archive of relatively pointless information that occasionally sees the light of day (Such as now) <.<
As you described it's an unhygienic practice, but that's actually a good thing. Unless you are trying to suck the insides out of an ebola patient that is, in which case you probably deserve to get ebola.
Sounds useful, but not romantic. I think it's disgusting and has been over-romanticized in today's society.

Regrettably not, it's still as dire as it has been for the last few days :l Skype has been dropping in and out constantly and it takes a good few minutes for each page to load. They've said they will be giving us an update soon though, but it looks like it might actually be a region problem rather than with out specific line <.<

First 2 weeks of freshers = everyone out of the ~20,000 students here is doing fucking Sociology studies and I just have to stare blankly interested with an optimistic "Hmm, that's cool...<.<....>.>"
Where you are meeting them might say a lot about their workload though >_>
