The Flood / Courtesy PSA - Serious litebans will now be enforced.
« on: January 19, 2015, 02:19:53 PM »
http://sep7agon.net/index.php?topic=11257.0

I know most people get stickythread blindness so I'm just highlighting this before I start dropping the hammer. Serious has actually been alright for a while now, but if people are going to start breaking out the autism insults then I'll be dropping them like flies.

tl;dr of that thread is each warning issued in serious stacks up to equal a day's liteban for further infractions in the serious board. So if you have two serious tagged warnings = two days ban.

Mind your manners in here, if you don't like it then stick to the flood. I'm tired of discourteous and pathetic insults being used to sling shit instead of actual discussion, having a break from it for a few days has made me realise how valuable it is. The other mods will be informed and if you disagree with this stance then appeal to cheat.

The Flood / Quick Psychology Experiment!
« on: January 16, 2015, 06:48:41 AM »
I'm bored so I'm pulling stupid bits of information out of the back of my head and this one came to mind.

It's a quick thought experiment, I mean you can try the practical version but I wouldn't recommend it <.<

Materials you need (Or concepts)
-A glass of water

What to do
Part 1
-Think about the saliva in your mouth, how it constantly refills and you have to swallow it periodically as part of normal biological function.

Question: Do you find it gross? That you are swallowing saliva constantly?
Make a note of your answer, mental or written.

Part 2
-Spit into the glass
-Think about drinking the glass of water with your spit floating in it.

Question: Do you find it gross? The thought of drinking water that you just spat into?
Even if you would have normally mixed the water with saliva in your mouth as you drank it?

How do your answers compare?
And question for a commendation mark - What is this psychological process called?
[Regarding the final question, turns out I was misremembering two different paragraphs in the book. The process was unrelated to the thought experiment, it was to do with interpersonal disgust and how morally objectionable actions tend to rank more highly on the scale of disgusting acts when compared to 'oral incorporation of XYZ' <.<]

The Flood / In dug we trust

A rug has been removed from a sheriff's office in Florida after it was noticed that it read "in dog we trust" instead of "in God we trust".

The $500 (£329) mat lay at the entrance to the office in Pinellas County for two months before someone noticed, a spokeswoman said.

The error was made by the rug's manufacturer and it is being replaced.

Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said they were looking at auctioning it for charity, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

There have been several offers to buy the misprinted rug .

"I'd buy or donate to a charity to get one," wrote one user on the office's Facebook page.

"I'm a great dog person and really find that a rug like that would be wonderful for my dogs to have for beds," wrote another.

The rug was put away on Wednesday after a deputy spotted the mistake.

"In God we trust" was adopted as the national motto of the US in 1956. It is also the official motto of Florida.

For the first time since the alpha, after I gave up on it in disgust.
And I was pleasantly surprised.

By just how horrendous it still was.

It's not like I did badly or anything, my shitbucketry held true and I was getting top of the scoreboard despite not having done PVP on it for... well ever. But christ on a cross, what a laggy random clusterfuck. So many people getting oneshotted by crazy bollocks everywhere ._____.

It's like... MW3 and Halo had a bastard child but it didn't get enough oxygen in the womb.

Bounty was ogre, scrublords were dunked and a laggy time was had by all!

Seriously though, I thought BF4 had some horrendous netcode but lawd was I wrong. GG bungle, gg.

But apparently certain yanks believe that parts of Britbongistan have actually been turned into Muslim only areas.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-30773297

Quote
An American terrorism commentator speaking on Fox News has been forced to apologise for describing Birmingham as a "Muslim-only city" where non-Muslims "don't go in".

Steven Emerson told the channel that in London "Muslim religious police" beat "anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire".

He later issued an apology for his "terrible error".

But many on social media have been ridiculing his comments.

One claimed: "Birmingham's refuse collectors are all Bin Laden."

Another tweet said: "As someone born and raised in Birmingham, I must admit there was a pressure to read the Kerrang."

"I was supposed to go to Birmingham last week but I forgot my passport," said one tweeter.
'No excuse'

His comments about Birmingham and London led to many reacting on hashtag #FoxNewsFacts.

Some accused him on his investigative website of "speaking nonsense" and called his claims "utter rubbish".

Emerson, who founded a group called The Investigative Project on Terrorism, was giving his perspective on the terror attacks in France to Fox presenter Jeanine Pirro.

A witness called to testify to at least one Congressional committee, he later apologised and has offered to make a donation to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

"I have clearly made a terrible error for which I am deeply sorry. My comments about Birmingham were totally in error."

He said he would be issuing an apology on his website for "this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham".

"I do not intend to justify or mitigate my mistake by stating that I had relied on other sources because I should have been much more careful.

"There was no excuse for making this mistake and I owe an apology to every resident of Birmingham."

Allah Akbar everyone.

The Flood / Some interesting statistics from the site.
« on: January 11, 2015, 01:41:15 PM »
http://sep7agon.net/index.php?action=stats

Probably one of the cooler pages on the site, it's nice to be able to look at how things are going.
The one I'd like to highlight is the 'most users online' one.

Rather than show each gradient of each month/day, I've picked the highest number reached for each one. You can view how the numbers have been growing on the link though <.<
July - 57
August - 69
September - 93
October - 140
November - 142
December - 147
January - 162

Roughly six months and the site activity has tripled. One of the usual concerns about an offsite is that it slowly dies off and eventually collapses. And yet, this place is actually still going after 6 months and is more importantly growing.

The other is the Users Online section, where the number of users/guests is displayed.
We've consistently had large numbers of people lurking here for a while now, and at first I thought it was some sort of glitch. Like people being logged in twice or the like. But it's not <.<

They are all out there... waiting... watching... this place <________<

It was quite weird, the framework of the dreams seemed to be drawn from a Shadow of Mordor/Destiny hybrid with a side order of 40k.

The destiny part was the text that popped up in the corner of my screen, so like the 'Minions of Crota have started a ritual' sort of thing. The SOM part was how it seemed to be a mob of Uruks/vaguely looked like mordor.

What roughly happened was I'd be wandering around and fighting/killing shit then suddenly a mob of ridiculously tough enemies would march out of a nearby cave, drag me to a table and proceed to rip me apart and eat me ._.

Three times this happened before I gave up on trying to go back to sleep.

I have to say, having a first person perspective of being eaten alive is rather unpleasant.

The Flood / Official Battle Royale thread. [10/22 Still Alive]
« on: January 06, 2015, 09:54:17 PM »

Welcome children, to the Battle Royale program!
20(ish) of you enter, one of you leaves!

Since this is a japanese film game, the rules get to be made up on the spot by me and be as convoluted as I like! Either way, you all die so what does it matter?! :D

That being said, here are the rules that we will be sticking to, for the sake of coherent gameplay.
Quote
Rules
1. All participants will be listed on the class register and a line drawn through their name when they die.
2. Play nicely and realistically, godmoding = me blowing your collar off for being annoying.
3. Spectators are allowed to post ITT but please do so sparingly, don't make me start deleting posts for spam.
4. The game continues until all players die, the midnight timer is broken because of the nature of the forum.
5. AFK players cannot be killed, but if they remain AFK for too long the bomb collar will blow them up for camping.
6. If you die, you can use a QTE to keep playing. You are given two, so that means that you can keep on playing/fighting a bit longer. And perhaps take down your assailant. When your two QTEs are gone, your next 'death' is for real.
7. (reserved)

This topic has been moved to HQ.

Kupo: I can see how this wouldn't exactly fit in a report.
It does however break the rules by calling out a user, but it would be incredibly wrong to warn someone for trying to bring an issue the moderators.

I'm moving it to the HQ board for discussion with the rest of the moderators.

Peter: Well if the american medical association says it is a disease then yes, of course they are wrong.

'Addiction isn't real, it's just a matter of willpower'

About 8 minutes in, Baroness Meacher explains it all very nice and clearly. Then the slimeball continues to wobble his chin.

Now discussion points
1. What do you think is the best way to tackle addiction? From both a legal and a medical perspective (In terms of policy) Or do you think that it's not the state's responsibility to try to treat addicts?
2. What is your opinion on this eejit? Totally not a loaded question by the way, but the title is something of a clue as to what I think of Peter Hitchens.

Serious / A serious lapse in effort.
« on: December 26, 2014, 02:03:18 PM »
Some of you may have noticed that the serious board isn't being kept as... clean... as it normally would be. Chalk that one up to the mods being busy with christmas stuff and family/IRL fun. When things get back to normal, there will be a bit more stringent housekeeping.

This isn't a license to shitpost, it just means that a lot of the 'is this meant to be in serious'/borderline threads aren't given the effort of decision making >_>

The Flood / Now here is something depressing.
« on: December 23, 2014, 08:23:44 PM »
Well not really, but I suppose if this sort of shit mattered it would be.

Facebook gave me this 'your year in review' thing, and I had a look and it contained three things. My profile picture, a poke-war with one of my friends (We hit 100 sometime in september) and some random distorted screenshot of a group chat.

._.

Considering how little else I've actually done this year, that seems like something of an overstatement <_<

So, for discussion value. What have you done with yourself this year?
Anything of note?

For me the year has mostly consisted of doctor's appointments and studying psychology. Riveting stuff >_>
