fat load of good all this domestic spying is doing, eh? NSA might as well be captain hindsight.
"Hey, so this guy we're watching who tried to join al-Shabaab suddenly acquired two assault rifles. Let's sit here and do nothing about it."
well what are they gonna do? Knock on his door and ask if he's planning on shooting up Americans in the name of Allah with those rifles?
Yes?
But of course clamping down on guns in Texas would cause a media outrage there even if it were against a guy who tried to join al-Shabaab.
And who in their right mind would answer yes to officers asking that?
Or y'know, obtain a search warrant for weapons?

Free as in you're free to do say/do what you want for the most part. It's something that most people living in free Western countries fail to fully appreciate.
Like US cops being able to freely turn off those dash cams during an arrest?
*yawns*
Move over to an authoritarian state, and you'll be begging to have a police force whose worse problems are those.
After all begging to have a police force that guns down an unarmed black man running away is a great thing to have. We all know shots to injure are nearly impossible to do on someone who is running in a straight line away from you. We have to gun the person down instead of firing a single shot at them. It's a wonder how Germany manages to keep order when their police force fires so little bullets each year unlike the US. http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/05/11/11662345-german-police-fired-just-85-bullets-total-in-2011
Okay, so do you wanna live in a country where this could happen to you if you so much as be suspected of criticizing the Police? Cause this is what's happening right now in actual police states. This is literally Nazi-level shit going on, and you're just bitching about some minor police abuse without having to worry about becoming another corpse in a torture camp. Fuck off. You don't know what an actual police state is like, and thank god you will never have to know.

It isn't though. If you want freedom, move to NZ.
And by free, I mean free compared to most countries.

It is true that the US isn't free. If you go to the hospital for a surgery or something like cancer treatment and you don't have money along with good insurance you will end up in debt. Then there's student loans which collects interest which fucks you over.
Not free as in everything is for free. Free as in you're free to do say/do what you want for the most part. It's something that most people living in free Western countries fail to fully appreciate.

Don't forget kids, the US has the second most transparent government on the planet.
As shitty as it is sometimes, the Western world and its nominal cousins like Japan are the only bastions of truly civilised society the Earth has seen. We'd be moronic to deride it as overtly authoritarian, oppressive, tyrannical or any other such nonsense buzzwords.
Though there are many people who are stupid enough to still deny that. I actually made this thread because I just had to refute this one guy in another forumwho was bitching about how unfree Western media is while he's living in frickin Iceland.

and an outstanding convenience for non-English speakers.
Thank God for that then, eh. Just what this country needs: more uninformed people voting.
If you need to be told in a foreign language how to vote, how can you possibly have a decent enough grasp on the political landscape to vote in an informed manner? While I'd love to think Labour's just looking out for the people more comfortable in their mother tongue, this is nothing more than a cynical vote grab from a desperate party.
Hm, if this is something that's new (which isn't the case where I'm at), then what you're saying is almost certainly true as the motivating reason for Labour doing this.

Not free as in totally free, since the US isn't totally free.

I don't into politics at all, but shouldn't something like this, which to me seems distorting a message to force votes, be illegal? Clearly the message here in the other languages doesn't have the part in red translated.
But yeah, if you go to a country and gain citizenship, learning the language should be the basic requirement for voting.
But even if you learn English as a second language, you're far more comfortable in speaking your native language 9 times out of 10. And just because you have to take an English-language test to get a citizenship doesn't mean that you won't forget it after some point of time. Really, making these things in more than 1 language is a slight inconvenience if even that for the people making it, and an outstanding convenience for non-English speakers.

Because some people actually like to play games for their story and atmosphere. Why do you think games like Metro 2033 are so successful despite the fact that their gameplay is mediocre is best?

Every single authoritarian state existing today exists as a de-jure Democracy. And even Nazi Germany and Italy under Mussolini had national parliaments with "elected" representatives. So why even keep up this facade of Democracy when everyone knows that you aren't one like in modern authoritarian states, or you're officially rejecting Democracy like in Nazi Germany and Mussolinistan? What's even the point? They are already recognized internationally for the most part.

Is hulk hogan the president yet?
He's the de-facto leader of the United States. Obama is just Hulk Hogan's puppet. Congress is also just a rubber stamp legislature for Hulk Hogan's policies as well.

I've slandered a lot about the US recently, so I figured that I'd make a thread or two about how the US is pretty nice compared to a majority of countries.
So, discuss how my thread title is completely correct.
And by free, I mean free compared to most countries.

Yes.
I need to spend more time around people like you to counterbalance the horrible Communist Liberal influences I'm getting from my college.

Eh, over where I'm living, they have electoral ads in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese. This sort of thing isn't exactly unreal by any means, and I honestly don't see any problem with it. It just makes voting more accessible to non-English speakers.
But the US could be seen as a different case than the UK in the way that the US has no official language.

Holy shit, I can't believe I read all of that.
Anyways, have you ever considered being a politician? Sure, I'd be against just about every platform you stand for, but I think that you'd do a very good job at being one.
