I gave a blank vote. I figured at the time that Syriza wouldn't do anything, and that Samaras would set the country on fire and sell the ashes to Germany. Many people in my area voted Golden Dawn (roughly 30%) and then it was a disparity between New Democracy and Syriza. I also didn't feel like voiding my vote.
Did you vote for SYRIZA in the election last January?
I wonder what's gonna happen to Nea Dimokratia in future elections, since PASOK has practically been wiped from the electoral map after trading the position of running the government with ND for the past 40 years.

With Quick-Reply you can write a post when viewing a topic without loading a new page. You can still use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post.

Roughly 580 Euros / month. Rent can usually be covered between 200 Euros and 400 Euros, depending on the area where you live, but utilities in Greece are more expensive. So it's a give and take whether someone can just make it through the month or not at all.
Syriza wants to raise it to 750 Euros to just ensure that most people can survive with it.
What's minimum wage in Greece right now?
With US minimum wage, you'd have to work 60-hour workweeks just to afford rent in the area I live in. But I do have the distinction of living in the 2nd most expensive part of the country. It's probably a similar situation in Athens, whose situation with wages is probably why SYRIZA wants to raise minimum wage. Did you vote for SYRIZA in the election last January?

Hell, some friends of mine are renting small apartment for TWO THOUSAND dollars per month. That's 250 hours of working just to pay for apartment rent. Say nothing about food, electricity, transportation, etc.
If your apartment rent doubles a typical mortgage payment, it's time to get the fuck out of wherever you're living.
Depends entirely on where you're living. Even in the shittiest parts of Orange County, I'm looking at at least $1250/mo for a shitty studio apartment with bars on the windows and street parking only.
Orange County somehow manages to be more expensive than the area where I'm living. But the San Francisco Bay Area is still #2 most expensive in the nation though.

If you're renting, they average at around 2,500 dollars per month. For buying, it's between 800,000 and 1,200,000. And these are for average neighborhoods. I live in a good neighborhood, so my house cost around 1,500,000. Though the prices here have been exploding recently, so when my parents bought my house 20 years ago, it was around 300,000.

I've never run into a "college communist " in any of the college campuses I've been to.
You sure this isn't more "colleges are liberal indoctrination camps" propaganda?
You've never been to any SoCal colleges or heard of them apparently. "College communists" down here are a dime a dozen. It seems like its the cool thing to be a communist moron when you're young, until you grow up and realize how stupid it is to be and support communism.
Also I don't see how any of it is propaganda, it's a well known fact how liberally biased colleges and universities are. To find any true neutral campuses or professors is nearly unheard of.
This is all assuming that Communism has anything to do with liberalism, which it doesn't. Communism in practice is pretty much Fascism, which is a far-rightist movement. The only difference between Communism and Fascism is economics, but they're identical in social policies.
Fascism is not a "far rightist" movement.
It's nationalist and reactionary, which both tend to be associated with the right-wing. It's also authoritarian which is more commonly associated with the right.
Those things aren't inextricably connected to right politics though. Fascism stemmed from progressivism.
I can sort of see your point. Fascism does want to create a "new society", but their vision for society is extremely reactionary.

I bet you're the same dude who balks at raising the minimum wage, huh?
Everybody should.
Wrong.
The minimum wage (in America) is at the same point as it was in the 1960's while the cost of living has skyrocketed. This in turn causes more people to be on welfare, more crime, more desperation, less hope (which means not preparing for or caring about the future), resulting in a weaker country.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that those living on minimum wage shouldn't be taxed. Unless there are several people in the family working minimum wage, in which case the tax should be 5% max.
I hope you enjoy the fact that I always love gobbling up your social critique of the US.

But on the other hand, the majority of employees make above minimum wage.
And it's worth noting that this majority is 96% of the US workforce making more than the federal minimum wage.
That's because the federal minimum wage is pathetic. $7.50, I think? It hasn't increased since 2009. You could get paid $7.75/hr, qualify as "above minimum wage", but still be fucked because that's $16k before taxes.
Where I live, it's literally impossible to live with Federal minimum wage (as in being able to afford a roof over your head and food/water at the same time). Hell, some friends of mine are renting small apartment for TWO THOUSAND dollars per month. That's 250 hours of working just to pay for apartment rent. Say nothing about food, electricity, transportation, etc.

Why don't we just ship him Korra?
But Korra is a man
That's the joke.
if we're going to send Comms a trap they should at least be a good looking one
But I have dibs on Noelle.
Let's go find Kiyo for him.
Kiyo's a confirmed trap? And I wonder who is crazier between Noelle and Kiyo. Since both of them are pretty freaking crazy to say the least.

I support a minimum wage because I don't trust companies to pay their employees a reasonable wage. It's in their best interests to pay employees as little as possible.
This, pretty much. But on the other hand, the majority of employees make above minimum wage. Still though.

I would like the minimum wage to raise in Greece since its well below the cost of life. Simply, a full-time job with a minimum wage isn't enough to pay a whole rent in most cases, let alone utilities. (Although, compared to the US, Greece is a state waiting for bankruptcy, and youth unemployment is still around 50%, without factoring in the people who are currently enlisted in the army for their military service)
Edit: Also those who are employed are either doing their practice, or are paid minimum wage and working full time or part-time, and most often they are bar, coffee-shop related jobs or even restaurants in tourist areas. Most of the people who work in stores as clerks and so forth are around their 30's and above. (It was a running joke some time ago that if you had a Master's degree in the UK? Then you will land a fitting cashier job at a chain store and be paid slightly higher than the minimum wage)
What's minimum wage in Greece right now?
