Many countries were also communist in Eastern Europe, and the fall of Communism in the 90's led to many issues, and those countries suffer still from their political and economical changes. Corruption is also more common in this part of Europe because of the mentality attached to political figures, and that's an essential difference between other nations in the western world.

One of the early speeches in the parliament of Tsipras involved that their effort was also to hopefully change the mentality of Greek politics. Some also criticized that as ridiculous, especially the notion that Syriza wants to also change the EU mentality.

If you think they're doing terrible now, you should have seen how they were doing before the EU and Eurozone. Which was far, far worse. It's probably better right now, during all of these recessions/unemployment than it would have been had they not joined the EU to begin with. And let's say nothing about how they were doing before this financial crisis.

Also, the EU/Eurozone had literally nothing to do with these countries going into crisis. What caused it was the pre-existing culture of corruption and tax evasion, so the Governments were spending money that they didn't have. Claiming that EU countries would be better off without the EU is pure populist bullshit.
I know. I really have no idea why people are blaming the EU for this crisis.

Though the EU really shouldn't be admitting any new countries until this crisis passes through (Croatia)....

What's the quality of the roads in London? In terms of bumpiness and potholes.

I'm pretty experienced in terms of bicycles, you I can help you quite a bit.
Well it wouldn't be street legal either way. I remember reading somewhere there's a way to make t street legal but I can't remember exactly what.
Uh..

What qualifies as street legal/illegal up there?
Scooters, motorcycles, cars, trucks.

Just not dirt bikes for some reason.
Then why not ride a road bike?

That's what I use.

I really hope that Greece stays in the EU and Eurozone because they are literally helpless without them.

Okay. Greece can go with Russia, since they're such a great nation to be associated with right now.

Or Turkey, since Turkey would absolutely *love* to help Greece.

The EU is really the only local, reliable friend that Greece has. Them leaving the EU would be a catastrophe. And it'd screw me out of living in any other EU country. <____________< (I'm not biased)
The Euro ruined the Mediterranean countries in the EU.
Hardly. Greece has had financial problems since the end of wwII. Their problems go a lot deeper than the EU. In fact, Greece has been more prosperous under the EU than it has at any period of time before. They used to literally be like a 3rd-world country, and now they're 1st world.
Which is why all the Mediterranean countries in the Eurozone are doing fucking terrible and can't afford the cost of living?
If you think they're doing terrible now, you should have seen how they were doing before the EU and Eurozone. Which was far, far worse. Like, compare the Mediterranean countries in the EU, with the Mediterranean countries not in the EU, and you'll notice that the living standards in the EU countries are a great deal higher.

Fat chance, both Turkey and Russia have serious economic issues. I think the US will get involved if it goes to those extremes.

I really hope that Greece stays in the EU and Eurozone because they are literally helpless without them.

Those parts of the post were sarcasm.

And yeah, really the US is the only player who even has a remote chance of helping Greece if they leave the EU. And even then, let's be serious. That's not happening.

>wants to exit the UN
And right there, you get somebody who's gonna cut the US off from the world.

Great.

This isn't the 1700's anymore where you can play the isolation game.

Not to mention that both of those things are pure populism.
the UN is a powerless organization
The US leaving the UN would pretty much obliterate the UN singlehandedly.

And while the UN doesn't have much in the way of hard power, it has a lot of soft power.

« on: April 08, 2015, 04:50:04 PM »
Does the proposal include any potential measures for future increases, and if so, who is in charge of the rate?
It says nothing about any potential for future increases.  And this tax lasts for 8 years where it will then be put to another vote over whether it will continue or stop.

And most likely, the California Government will be in charge of the 50 dollar rate.
Well...
A $50 property residency tax for a local, underfunded school district doesn't sound horrible like our property tax school funding scheme is...  I don't see a reason to be adamantly against it, but has the school tried more voluntary methods of fundraising?
They've tried to countless times. And they either failed, or they weren't very big in scale. So they haven't been able to raise enough money via donations.

I'm sure you meant SYRIZA instead of Syria.. >__>

And while this wouldn't affect me personally in the US, it'd affect my family in Greece a great deal since quite a bit of them are either entering, or are already living off of pensions. And for all that money to cut out. That'd be horrible, obviously. I really hope that Greece stays in the EU and Eurozone because they are literally helpless without them. Nobody would be trying to keep them afloat if they were to leave.

Serious / So a little electoral issue came up
« on: April 08, 2015, 04:35:25 PM »
(Read OP before voting)

This electoral issue involves the Elementary/Middle School (it's Primary school for you non-Muricans) district I went to. Its proposal is that a small, flat $50 tax is payed each year by the people living in the areas which feed into those schools. And this tax goes towards funding the school since they aren't getting enough money from the state. Like, these schools were really starved of money when I went to them. So since it sounds sensible (and since I'm a dirty Communist), I'm going to vote yes on it. Yet literally everyone else in my immediate family is strongly against it, and they are going to vote no.

What do you nigger faggots think about this? It's a really local issue, so none of you would have ever heard of it if I never brought it up.

speaking of finland

OK so today in history class i was really bored, so whenever i didnt look at the girl next to me or reading, i looked at the map which had europe... there was a lot of stuff that i looked at, lol. the girl next to me was wearing a dress thingy, plus she also had a choker whihc im a pretty big fan of... she also had slip on shoes, and being the loser foot fetishist i am, i enjoyed it when her foot was almost sticking out, like, uh... not to mention the guy behind me was horsing around with a toy solider and gun, fun stuff

there was some countries that i forgot existed, like belarus and georgia

i also realized that sweden is in fact up there along with finland and the other one... can never remember which is which tbh

it's weird cuz in 9th grade last year, learning the countries of continents  was a big thing and i was like the map guy
It's Norway you're thinking of.

« on: April 07, 2015, 08:23:13 PM »
I did a shift by myself once a week so I had the whole building to myself. Because of that, I was able to take a body of some girl home with me yesterday. Apparently, one of the workers noticed that a body was missing, and he must have checked the camera footage to see what happened. It looks like they saw me zipping her up in a bodybag and then showing me dragging the body out to my SUV. I ended up getting arrested in my home today. When I was questioned about it, I said that I did it because the girl was an old friend and I wanted to have one last dance with her. I even put her in a dress. But we all know what really happened.

Spoiler
Necro-anal. Hey, the corpse wasn't too decomposed!!!!
