I'm not entirely convinced he's dead or comatose yet.

Didn't this exact same thing happen a few years ago?
His father's death was falsely announced a few times iirc

Serious / Re: US oil prices go negaitve
« on: April 28, 2020, 01:46:08 PM »
To clarify, this is referring to the price point of which crude oil producers contract to refineries at. The initial issue was that, due to the extremely reduced travel worldwide, not as much oil is being refined. Since it isn't being refined, a surplus built until refineries could no longer store any more. Now the margin requirements have changed, and if oil prices drop below $10 it will trigger a drop all over again. Markets have all-but-abandoned June contracts due to close to/actual zero dollar prices and rolled them over into July contracts.

Wouldn't be an issue if we weren't so reliant on non-renewable energy but oh well, what can you do? /s

meh
less people are gonna die to this than the flu anyway
This did not age well.
Actually
US deaths are at 53k from corona
the 2017-2018 flu season reported 79k dead from influenza as per CDC records.

so I'm still riding this bet.
3 days later and we're up 4k for confirmed covid deaths. Prediction isn't looking good friendo. And now that GOP Governors are starting to end lockdowns before the infection numbers decrease, there's probably going to be another surge.

Serious / Re: Why don't people care about the Biden allegations?
« on: April 28, 2020, 01:21:16 PM »
Because the DNC and associated media worked hard to force Sanders out of the race, and since they've put all their resources into Biden they can't lose their investment.

It's all a wash of people trying to justify him as the lesser evil or obfuscate the truth (i.e. CNN removing from their website the 1993 episode of Larry King Reade's mother called in to). I stand by the fact that I'm definitely not voting Biden unless there are serious policy concessions, and even then I have to decide if I'm actually okay with voting for a child-sniffing mush-brained rapist/classist.

GA Gov Kemp is opening bowling alleys, nail salons, massage therapists, and gyms Friday. This is six days before the shelter-in-place order ends, and also while not even getting close to the WH guidelines and infection rates are still up. This idiot bootlicker is going to kill us all.

Maybe you could make a documentary about it. Call it "Bowling for Corona"
It will be a surrealist takedown of capitalism starring Lakeith Stanfield

Enby people exist and that's denying their existence is a pretty inflammatory take. That being said, banning might be too far. A warning also seems heavy, but realistically the admin/mod's purpose in this situation should be to guide discussion towards something more understanding. They don't have to suddenly become an NB activist, but starting in a place that isn't "I think you just want attention" would be easier to keep civil.

Also stop buying pugs FFS. They need to die off for their own sake.
Stop buying purebreds, period. Intentionally limiting genetic diversity for ~`《a e s t h e t i c》'~ is horribly stupid and horribly awful. It leads to so many health and quality of life issues that it should straight up be considered animal abuse.

The racing itself isn't the problem, it's that racing falls under the whole "pure standard breed" umbrella of fucked up things. When somebody decides to participate in dog racing (as a viewer or owner), by extension they're contributing to an abusive field.

Most racing dogs are specifically bred to *want* to run. Greyhounds, as a standout example. Greyhounds are also very sad, anxiety-ridden animals that shouldn't be bred anymore.

The Flood / Re: I checked myself into a mental hospital
« on: December 22, 2019, 06:18:53 PM »
This is why I hesitate to visit the hospital. The cost of medical care in the US is astronomical. I had a seizure a couple of months ago most likely due to an electrolyte imbalance and it cost over 5K even though I only stayed a couple of hours. I think the ambulance ride alone was probably 3K. And I didn't have insurance at the time so it's all on me to pay.

It's such an awful thing to do for people with mental illness. Slap someone with a bill for thousands, that surely won't make them any more suicidal than they already are.
While insurance """helped""", between two separate accounts I was still responsible for something like 20% of the cost (around 2k). Fuck anyone who tries to argue that the average person can handle interactions with insurance coverage when these companies go out of their way to make it difficult as possible to get things covered.

And yeah; my primary emotion the first couple of days was regret. I regretted doing what I did to cause the entire chain of events, but I also regretted getting help. I felt like I was being punished for choosing life, which is not great. And that was BEFORE I got the bills.

Wow that’s really fucked up
They’re forcing you to pay for being mentally debilitated

How are you handling it
I am paid up now thankfully, unless I get a surprise bill for some random tylenol I took when I was blacked out. All it took was wiping out my savings and any extra money I made over the latter half of the year.

You ok, hun?
I'm hanging in there. Before going to the hospital, I was isolating myself and withdrawing from everything which led to my downward spiral. I'd like to stay longer but unfortunately my insurance will only cover my stay here as long as I am suicidal, which sucks because I don't feel like I'm ready to leave yet. Hopefully I'll get into their outpatient program so I can avoid isolating and relapsing again.
Get the most you can out of it. Outpatient is a good choice if you're still struggling.

Yours allows you access to the internet? Lucky.
Yep. Have you been to a psych hospital?
Once earlier this year, although mine was involuntary. Miserable experience altogether; cost me thousands of dollars I didn't have, and they barely did any counseling because it was over a weekend. I was basically forced to watch Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell movies for 10 hours a day. Would have been better for my psyche to just send me home tbh.

It was involuntary but you still had to pay?
Yep. Before insurance, the 4 day stay was $5,000. That's not including ER, either ambulance, doctor, bloodwork, etc.

The Flood / Re: Disney's 'Star Wars': The Rise of Skywalker
« on: December 22, 2019, 01:58:45 PM »
I see most reviewers just complaining about the plot, but the main issue with the movie is that the pacing is frantic and it feels very uncinematic like none of the other movies do. It kind of reminded me of Spectre, oddly enough. A lot of people are going to say that this should have been 2-3 movies but they're wrong. The main plot is really simplistic when you think about it. I'd say it's easily one of the worst of the franchise. There's a lot more I can say but this is one of those movies that you start to forget about immediately.
I completely agree. It's not complicated; characters barely speak and all of the runtime is spent on moving from location to location or setting up fake-our deaths that ultimately serve no purpose. It seemed to be built entirely on the premise of milking every ounce of love for the characters through half-baked emotional tugs and fan service.

Serious / Re: 2019-2020 Trump Impeachment Trial
« on: December 20, 2019, 12:13:37 AM »
So I’m looking up why exactly Pelosi is delaying the sending of the articles. Supposedly she wants to confirm a fair trial in the Senate first? Can anyone confirm?

What counts as fair? Are we going to have to wait until AFTER the election before we even get a trial? This would be an even more foolish move.
Maybe one where the Senate majority leader, who would play a large role in proceedings and has flatly said that he isn't even going to attempt to be fair or impartial, can't murder the trial in its crib?

If this was an easy process, then it wouldn't be so damn important. It must be done BECAUSE it is hard. Now is already past when these flagrant abuses of power should have been answered, and they must be stopped before it is unstoppable. Doing nothing is tantamount to rolling over and dying.

The Flood / Re: Disney's 'Star Wars': The Rise of Skywalker

Spoiler
The movie can effectively be separated into two parts: rapid-speed cuts while tracking the McGuffin, then slow, dragging scenes centered around Palpatine/"The Power of Destiny". The movie is better in the first half for one reason only: you don't have enough time to think about how stupid the story is, and the latter half you do.

Also, not calling back to Rey's earlier "What's your name" scene by having Rey embracing her mononym would have been better. The most coherent aspect of the film was identity and familial influence, specifically that family doesn't define who you are. The answer to Palpatine's aspiration isn't choosing to take the identity of another family, it would be to embrace total individuality and reject a family name.

Also Also, they shouldn't have resurrected Finn's "I love Rey" plot if they weren't going to conclude it. His arc in TLJ could have reasonably settled that, and they fucked him up more by effectively making that the only thread he has to follow throughout the movie.

How are you doing?
🤷 taking the good with the bad. Just moved into a new apartment funded entirely by something rather depressing events. At least I'm living in a better area for my psyche.
Depressing events? I'm sorry to hear that, but it's also good to hear you are living in a better place now. Depression is not a good thing and it affects you even when you don't give into it.
Yeah, my dad killed himself a few months ago. I'll probably be dealing with that for the rest of my life, so at least I'm (physically) in a better place to deal with it and better mentally equipped than I would have been at the start of the year.
