Gaming / Re: I'm thinking about getting into the pokemon games. Where should I start?« on: August 14, 2015, 09:44:57 PM »Nothing unfortunate about it, actually.Shit happens. Gameboy dies one day, can't play pokemans until you get another one. Or, you're out in your day and didn't want to lug around extra equipment or didn't feel like planning out which video games you'd want to spontaneously play. Make no mistake, emulating is no replacement for the real thing. It's "acceptable" use. Spoiler No Verb, not acceptable as in "okay to do", acceptable like the item condition when you're buying off of Ebay/Amazon. It's cheeto smudged, missing the label, the battery is almost dead, but the game works. 8313
Gaming / Re: I'm thinking about getting into the pokemon games. Where should I start?« on: August 14, 2015, 09:36:40 PM »Unfortunately, due to Nintendo policy, it's still a big fat no no.Yeah pretty much, since you can theoretically make your own ROM without much of an issue playing a ROM of a game you already own is fine. It's not illegal to play a ROM of a game you own, IIRC. That's the reason that site for ROM downloads wasn't immediately nuked. It's a downloadable program for your PC that allows you to emulate a game's ROM for free.Or you can emulate anything pre-DS and just buy yourself a 3DS.What is an emulator and what does it do? From Nintendo's corporate information page: Spoiler There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet. 8314

I think the experiment shows that beating real-time games via group play cannot be done without severe handicapping.

How many hours would you expect to put in per day?I'd argue that it would be better to but a system and get each game as you complete the previous, just because playing it through an emulator just isn't the same experience as playing the real deal. But I don't got no moneys 8322

Earthbound is over $600 new, for example, whereas a used copy is a sixth of the price. If you just plan on getting the game for playing, there is literally nothing wrong with used copies. To be fair, he said "new". But, as I illustrated, that doesn't matter to me anyway. They're hard (expensive) to get newOn Amazon, you can get FireRed for $30 and Crystal for $25. They aren't that expensive, especially in comparison to other Nintendo games. 8326

But there's nothing stopping individuals from being decent. Maybe I'm ignorant and that's already happening; in which case, it's the fault of our news for catering to entertainment and sensationalism instead of information. It's not like I'm asking for people to like each other, but I'd settle for not being frozen asshole globs over issues that matter to a lot of people. I'd rather it not be essential for a decent shot at a good life in the first place. Making it free is a temporary solution and won't fix anything in the long run.

Gaming / Re: Why does Nintendo hate Metroid?« on: August 11, 2015, 06:42:05 PM »
Because THE BABY killed the franchise, and currently they are unwilling to commit to reviving it due to the backlash over MPFF, the Wii U being the broccoli of consoles, and already working on multiple games plus a new console.
