Why would I get on a trampoline wearing shoes, or walk through the mud wearing shoes? I'm not a heathen.
Because there's glass everywhere apparently
Only around old buildings in the country. It's a matter of looking where you're walking, and 10 year old me wasn't good at that.

Atlanta has a similar problem around 10pm, only broken vodka bottles instead of shattered window panes.

Which is why I just prefer to call it domestic abuse. It probably shouldn't be a gendered issue at all
This right here is all that I'm saying. Abuse is abuse, regardless of what sex is abusing what. Instead of having a battle over which should be cared about, abuse in general should be an issue. Violence knows no color or ideology.

There shouldn't even be political platforms to raise awareness of either. It should be common sense that nobody is physically/emotionally indestructible, and that it is unacceptable in any case. The fact that there are "Right-wingers ignore x abuse" and "Left-wingers ignore y abuse" stereotypes is unbelievable.

I honestly can't even remember what he did that was so bad besides muh wars and the faith-based initiative stuff. Dubya being bad is kind of a meme.

He was pretty embarrassing though. I'm amazed people have deluded themselves into thinking Jeb can win a general election.
My biggest gripes with Bush is that he seemed way over his head a lot of the time, and in situations that anyone would have struggled with. He seemed ignorant on a lot of subjects, and that probably didn't help his choice of responses.

He is polling above a lot of other candidates, and carries similar policies to many of them. I do think that he will get a great boost once the nominee options slim down, but my issue is with who the other options will end up being. I'm sorry but if my other options are Trump, Fiorina, or Carson, I'm going Bush.

Bush is probably the safest candidate for the nomination. He definitely has a few strong right leanings, but in general he seems more level-headed than the competition.
Do people genuinely think this?

Nobody is going to vote for Jeb Bush. Like it's not going to happen.

Most people who vote in the general election are almost completely uninformed. They're not going to look at his platform, they're going to see the name "Bush" and remember how much everyone hated the last one.

Nobody wants another fucking Bush. Even conservatives don't want another fucking Bush.
It doesn't even have to do with him being a shitty guy or having shit policy. He's a fucking Bush and America has had enough Bush to last a century.
Do people even remember Bush Sr.'s presidency? Serious question, because every problem I hear with him being a Bush is in relation to his brother.

When they say it doesn't matter, they're exaggerating. Because it trivializes m-on-f violence. That's what I think.
The issue of FoM abuse is piggybacking on the MoF abuse campaign, and that's because it's the only way for the issue to be brought up. Society likes to caricature women as frail and emotional, men as strong and stoic. And this is just not the case at all. It's not a problem in that it's equally as rampant as MoF physical abuse, it's that nobody cares. Bringing it up alongside its opposite is the only way it can be acknowledged.

And according to Mordo's statistic, 1:3 cases of FoM abuse results in physical injury; the other 2:3 would then, by that account, be emotional abuse or just "slaps". Obviously "slaps" are more common than injurious abuse against men, you're absolutely right. But it's by no means the extreme margin that you repeat.

And also in that regard, WHO says that 50% of abused women they surveyed had to take some sort of leave from work due to injuries. I would much rather have a statistic on injuries resulting in general, but it is still obvious even by that statistic that injuries inflicted in MoF abuse are more common. I'm only finding cases as high as 55.6% so far, but that still means the gap is roughly ~23%. That's a large gap, but not nearly enough to disregard FoM violence.

This is good; domestic protection of agriculture makes everybody worse off.
Out of curiousity, are there any statistics on how outsourcing jobs affect unemployment?
Besides short-run labour disruption, there are no impacts on unemployment. Some literature suggests jobs are insourced as much as they are outsourced:

>US production for widget A moves to Vietnam
>People in Vietnam now have more money, they consume widget B but they lack the institutional & skills development necessary to produce widget B.
>US production for widget B increases offsetting employment losses from widget A moving offshore. This increases the skills profile of US labor increasing wages and working conditions. Real wages also increase due to the fall in the prices prices of widget A in the US.

Otherwise, monetary policy can usually smooth-out disruptions and remove slack in the labour market. If you want some actual reading, take a look at Krugman's "A Country is not a Company". It's available online.
I wasn't looking for an explanation, I already know that outsourcing is incredibly beneficial economically. I just wanted the numbers behind it to see the degree that local and national economies are affected.

Male on female violence is more rampant. I'm not disagreeing with the GENERAL idea behind your argument, I just think you're arguing like a jackass. Abuse is abuse, one form is not worse than the other.
but that's so obviously not true--again, there is an academic difference between a black eye and a reddened cheek

black eyes are worse, and more women receive black eyes at the hands of men than vice-versa
Again, I'm taking fault with you constantly putting out the idea that women can only abuse by slapping, and that the only other way is the extreme of genital mutilation.

Are you saying that women can't punch?
Are you saying that women can't emotionally abuse their partner?

I don't like when people trivialize abuse in any form. That shit is not acceptable. You can talk about how often it is, and how male instigated physical abuse is more rampant than the female case-- I agree to that, and it's a much worse issue in society. But that doesn't mean it's okay to say that the opposite doesn't happen. You can't pick and choose when abuse is okay to care about, because none of it is, regardless of the sex of the perpetrator. Ever.

I didn't catch the part where Mordo said physical abuse was equally rampant in that post.
It was the first thing he mentioned as a talking point against liberalism. I was inclined to believe that he felt like it was this huge issue--which it isn't.

Male on female violence is worse.
Male on female violence is more rampant. I'm not disagreeing with the GENERAL idea behind your argument, I just think you're arguing like a jackass. Abuse is abuse, one form is not more ignorable than another.

Relevant to the discussion though, apparently emotional abuse against female spouses is more common than physical abuse. Anything more than 0% is still too much on either account, but it shows that men are more likely to degrade than physically assault their partner.

His main statement is that the second amendment shouldn't be taken away and that people should react.

I agree, but how he said it....could have been done better
Better than Jeb who basically said "well, shit happens"
Not really; Jeb was commenting on how the federal government can't always get involved in these kinds of affairs, and that they seem to happen every other day.

A horrible way to put it, but still more tactful than "why didn't they all just run at the guy with a gun?"

That's not my mentality, though. Show me where I said it doesn't matter.
You literally said that female on male abuse is hilarious because a slap isn't the same as a broken jaw.

If that isn't minimalizing, then I don't know what the fuck is.
It's hilarious when people try to equate the two. Yes. HILARIOUS.
I didn't catch the part where Mordo said physical abuse was equally rampant in that post. Just that the stereotypical liberal would think that the topic of male abuse is hilarious.

I don't exactly how you trivialize every form of domestic abuse where the woman is the offender as a "slap". Women get slapped, men get slapped; that's not the problem. There is definitely a stigma perpetrated in society that men cannot be abused, and that they should just "take it like a man."

Genocide is happening in Africa and the Middle East, but that doesn't mean Oregon isn't a tragedy. I absolutely despise the "yeah, but x is worse, so that doesn't matter" mentality.

Pretty much dropped Carson in one fail swoop. Even when I was not as convinced about gun control I would never agree with "No amount of deaths will be as significant as the second amendment being taken away." Which no one is actually suggesting. Holy shit fuck Carson tbh.
A GOP Campaign Strategist said something in an MSBNC report earlier today that seems to hit the mark: Carson seems to be able to get away with saying thing nobody else could, but all of these statements and remarks are slowly building up against him. I'm not sure if he will hold out to the primaries at this point.
Ugh not even sure who to support at this point. Guesses are none of the other repub candidates would disagree with what he said. I suppose I'll just hold out hope that Gary Johnson will run
I'm still hoping Kasich will get a boost after a few other candidates drop out, but I'm not holding my breath. Jeb's response wasn't very appealing either, but at least it had a little more tact than Carson's.

Bush is probably the safest candidate for the nomination. He definitely has a few strong right leanings, but in general he seems more level-headed than the competition.

Yeah, right. He wouldn't have done shit.

Fuck him--that's not something you say after a tragedy like this.

Yeah he should be more like obama and push his agenda less than 5 hours after the shooting!
Right, and Carson has the respect to push his agenda a week later.

It should be accepted that nearly everybody will capitalize on events to support their agendas, it's how you go about it that matters in today's society.

Serious / Ben Carson's Remarks on Oregon Shooting
« on: October 07, 2015, 10:19:04 AM »
The article is a little too long to quote, but the bulk of the piece is below:

Quote
Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who is a leading Republican presidential contender, has intensified his defense of gun rights in response to last week’s Oregon campus massacre, arguing that the Second Amendment is more sacred than spilled blood.

He also suggested that the victims should have had the courage to attack their assailant and accused President Obama of politicizing the tragedy by embracing the families of the dead.

In a Facebook question-and-answer session Monday night, Mr. Carson tried to show empathy with victims by recalling that two of his cousins were killed in the streets and that, as a doctor, he had removed many bullets from the bodies of gunshot victims. But he said the right to bear arms was paramount.

“I never saw a body with bullet holes that was more devastating than taking the right to arm ourselves away,” Mr. Carson wrote.

And on Tuesday, Mr. Carson’s suggestion that he would have fought back in the face of an attack like the one in Roseburg, Ore., went viral, drawing widespread rebuke from his critics and reviving questions about his candidacy.

“I would not just stand there and let him shoot me,” Mr. Carson, who has been surging in recent polls, said on Fox News. “I would say: ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him! He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.’ ”

Offering a prescription that echoed the National Rifle Association’s view that arming “good guys” is the answer, Mr. Carson also suggested to USA Today that kindergarten instructors should have weapons training. “If the teacher was trained in the use of that weapon and had access to it, I would be much more comfortable if they had one than if they didn’t,” Mr. Carson said.

Like many Republican presidential candidates who have sought to express sympathy for victims while maintaining support for gun rights, Mr. Carson has struggled to address the issue with sensitivity. Belief in limited government is central to the Republican Party, and those running for office have found it challenging to offer solutions to an epidemic of violence that do not involve more federal oversight.

Eh, I guess I don't find the concept interesting. I would like a Far Cry game about a 19th century British explorer stranded in some far-off land. That would be cool. Different enough because of the technology of the time, but with a somewhat more relatable protagonist.

and the story would revolve around killing Tarzan like the savage animal he is.
But then you'd have to be French
