Otherwise, be prepared to be a proud recipient of the Darwin Award. And honestly, if you can't read a crowd, you probably deserve to get punched in the face until you learn.See, this is the kind of logic that really scares me. You start doing stupid shit, you rationalize it, and then you start saying stuff like, "It's not stupid--if you get hurt, you probably deserved it!" 6304

And let me remind you here that I'm not arguing how stupid or not-stupid you should think it is. I know better than to do that with you of all people. I'm just pointing out, since the first reply, that your idea of how rampant death is from moshing is massively overstated.

The Flood / Re: just arrived home from my first music festival« on: November 08, 2015, 09:17:38 PM »That is a cop-out Verb, and you know it. You said that more people have died from moshing than anything else I mentioned: you were wrong. Own up to it."I guarantee more people have died moshing than any other example you've given so far."There are myriad circumstances involved in drowning, freezing to death, and contracting skin cancer. 6307

Do people get injured moshing? Yes, there are stray limb movements during it, sometimes people get bruised up a little (usually from crowdsurfers falling on them, tho) But to say that it's stupid because people die from it shows a lack of understanding on the subject.
The only thing pain I've encountered after moshing is soreness in my calves in the days following. And honestly, if you can't read a crowd, you probably deserve to get punched in the face until you learn. You don't fuck around with bad crowds, and it's easy to figured out in the first few songs whether it will be or not. 6308

The Flood / Re: just arrived home from my first music festival« on: November 08, 2015, 09:09:40 PM »Because they literally follow up "70,000" with "There is no way to crowd surf or stage dive safely consistently," which most definitely implies where the injuries are coming from. And then again, and again and again throughout the article they refer back to crowdsurfing: most specifically, the danger of falling from six or seven feet onto concrete. The injuries are mostly attributed to crowdsurfing, not moshing. Which is very confusing thay the article doesn't seem to make a difference in terms; they're two different things.I feel like that's something you're projecting onto the article. I don't see any reason to believe that's the case. 6310

"I guarantee more people have died moshing than any other example you've given so far."
Unless less than 10 deaths (most recent up to 2007) is more than the number of people who have drowned, died of hypothermia, died of skin cancer, or any other thing I mentioned-- that's completely bogus. 6311
The Flood / Re: just arrived home from my first music festival« on: November 08, 2015, 09:04:39 PM »
Yes, and then go back and read that literally everything they say relating to injury is a result of "falling from six or seven feet" or an actual quote directly after that statistic you just claimed: "There is no way to crowd surf or stage dive safely consistently".
The injuries are mostly attributed to crowdsurfing, not moshing. Which is very confusing thay the article doesn't seem to make a difference in terms; they're two different things. 6312

And the crowd goes mild.I'm not comparing them, I'm specifically pointing out how silly it is to say "people died doing that before". People have died going to see a movie. Point is that it doesn't happen often enough to pose a significant risk.I guarantee more people have died moshing than any other example you've given so far. Ended up awkwardly being semi-lowered to the ground instead.Yes and no. I got dropped head-first at a concert I went to Friday. Turns out there were two other people crowd surfing in my direction and we all collided into each other. Thankfully people are cognicant of their surroundings; the people around us stopped and helped us back onto our feet.Which, of course, doesn't take away the fact that you hit your head. 6315

People have died going to see a movie. Point is that it doesn't happen often enough to pose a significant risk.None of these things are tantamount to moshing, though. You're not "refusing to live" if you don't go to mosh pits--you're just intelligent. You aren't "refusing to live" if you go out in the rain--you're just intelligent. You take the risk of getting a cold when you go out in the rain, the risk of melanoma if you go out without sunscreen, the risk of drowning if you swim. Possible danger isn't the same as significant danger; part of rationality is being able to understand that you aren't guaranteed to die just by taking a walk in the snow, or cooking overy a fire.refusing to live because you'll die is silly too.Not really. 6316

Thankfully people are cognicant of their surroundings; the people around us stopped and helped us back onto our feet.it was just so surreal watching almost the entire crowd mosh in-sync with the music and each other. i've never seen anybody crowdsurf but i can assume that it would be a lot more painful to be dropped while crowdsurfing than fall while you're moshing.Moshing is fun. Much better than crowdsurfing, especially when the people closest to the stage are sniveling weaklings. Are there moshpits at festivals, or is that a rock/Taylor Swift exclusive thing?well at this specific festival there were three different stages, all with different styles of electric music. the stage that played most of the basshead music was where all the moshing was going on, which was actually really fucking fun to get into. 6317
The Flood / Re: just arrived home from my first music festival« on: November 08, 2015, 08:42:43 PM »Yeah, you're kind of misattributing this behavior here. It's done because it's fun and energetic, goes well with the music. If you see someone fall, you stop and help them up. If someone drops their phone/glasses, you stop and help look. If someone wants out, you let them. It's not as instinctive and wildly unruly as you're saying it is.It's also why there are more "rules" to moshing now too, by the way. You're supposed to stop if someone falls down (which can happen easily while crowdsurfing as well).>stuffed room filled with hyped up morons 6318

Maybe I get a cramp while swimming, or an undercurrent catches me, or someone that's starting to drown carries me down as well while trying to claw up. You can't account for everything; I'm not saying that putting yourself in danger purposefully is ever good, but refusing to live because you'll die is silly too.you won't die swimming if you're not an idiotI'm saying that people don't die as often as you think they do. People die swimming as well, but I'm not going to stop doing it because of that. You can't die if you don't live first.sure, ms. anecdoteIt's not as dangerous as it seems.
