Kinda funny...

Spoiler
General Leia is the only returning character from the older Star Wars to be alive in-universe, but Carrie Fisher is the only actor/ress to be dead.

Most of the boards are fine, it's just /v/, /pol/,  and /vg/ that are complete trash. /b/ is just porn nowadays, /k/ is cool, and /fit/ is hilarious.
I wouldn't say /v/ is bad, just eeeeeh
It's pretty awful outside of a few situations like MGS and NieR threads.
What do you dislike about it
cancerous shitposting that ruins the possibility of discussion, mainly by people who don't even give a shit about the topic and just want to be memers.

My thoughts a couple days after:

Regardless of the overall result, I'm glad that the movie tried to stretch out of the formula. There were some awful moments, but some fantastic ones too. Some of the best and worst of the franchise, as a matter of fact. It did enough that I hope Episode 9 takes some cues from 8 and improves on the new directions without some of the bad like
Spoiler
Canto Bight
.

Spoiler
More medium and two-shots would be nice though. Cinematography was pretty stale outside of the action sequences.

Why did Luke even leave a map if he didn't want anyone to find him, and just wanted to die at the Jedi shtine?
Spoiler
Headcanon: he originally left to find wisdom in the ancient texts, ended up becoming embittered and hermit-ish and decided after he arrived that the Jedi should end.

K2SO was my jar jar tbh

i can't think of a more insufferable character
Most of my problems with the character are based on the fact that he really should bounce off of others more; since everybody else is a piece of cardboard, a lot of the quips and remarks come off a bit too mean-spirited or fall flat.

That ending shot with the Force using kid felt tacked on purely to set him up in a later film. Ugh.
Spoiler
Even worse, Canto Bright was only probably as drawn out as it is to set that bit with the kid up. That side quest easily destroyed the pacing, and was time that could have been better spent on developing the Rey and Luke interactions.

K2SO, the robot, had the most personality than the rest of the human cast.
Not surprising tbh, Alan Tudyk is an amazing actor.

He's been an establishment supporting corporatist who doesn't even keep track of his own actions or listen to the advice of people that he put into office.

So exactly the same as I always thought he was. No idea why people that a Goldman Sachs-tier businessman would want to "drain the swamp".

A New Hope > Return of the Jedi > The Force Awakens >> POWER GAP >> The Last Jedi > Empire Strikes Back > Phantom Menace > Revenge of the Sith >> POWER GAP >> Attack of the Clones

I just see RO as 2hr13min of world-buidling, and it's kind of hard to rate an encyclopedia as a movie.

I am extremely conflicted. Its best parts were better than TFA's, but its worst was much worse than TFA. Part of me wants to chalk it up to TFA being really safe and sticking to a tepid plot and sequencing while TLJ tried something new and got mixed results; part of me wants to blame it on middle-itis, where it has to service as the middleman between the first movie and last (exasperated by this shift from the first movie relying on the older cast while the next one doesn't use them nearly at all) before it can be its own film; part of me wants to blame Disney for drawing out the funny bits (the Hux and Poe bit at the start should have ended after the first Poe retort if it was there at all) and making the movie too quippy in general; part of me wants to blame spotty direction and a subpar script that gave us the illusion of twists, but moved really only moved the story a few yards a head in a bee-line; and part of me wants to understand why some of the bizarre choices, like Super Leia, were made. And honestly, it feels like a mix of everything above.

But, in the end, I am two hours out from watching the movie and the good parts are sticking a lot more than the bad. TFA goes through the motions, being a stock Star Wars film that gets a bit boring to watch on the 10th viewing; TLJ has some outstanding parts intercut with sequences I'd probably prefer to fast forward over.

Spoiler
And legacy be damned, they should have killed Leia off then and there. She did absolutely nothing the rest of the film (literally asking why people expect her to do something at the end), and given Carrie Fisher's deadness, we know she can't do anything radically important in Episode 9. It was a super lame scene that only served to blue ball the audience instead of capitalizing the statement that the movie is making: this is the new generation of Star Wars, and it's not going to use the OT or PT as a crutch. Instead, it was the first of many unfulfilling plot twists.
