By far what I found most appealing about The Force Awakens, one of the most anticipated films of the decade in one of the most universally beloved film franchises of all time, is that its two main characters are a white woman and a black man. Why does that even matter? Like, her favourite thing about the film (by far) is the skin colour and gender of the two leads. Not their performances or their characters, just... the way they look. Seriously, this isn't something unusual in film today.
The problem with the feminist ideology in a nutshell. Who cares about the real-world problems women face every day? Let's just cram as many female leads into movies and video games as possible and hope that solves everything!
To be fair, media is generally a reflection of culture. 50 years ago, a black or female lead was rare outside of niche television or film. Nowadays, women and black men can be protagonists in a culturally significant film series. Basically, it's a symptom of change, not THE change. The change is in the population's mindset.
