Post-war is the entire point of Fallout

If a man dims the spark of his humanity for even the most noble purpose, he blinds himself to the consequences of his actions and assures his destruction.

Isn't incitement to violence a slippery slope, for example, criticizing a person or their belief?
Noto v. United States, 367 U. S. 290, 367 U. S. 297-298 (1961),
"the mere abstract teaching . . . of the moral propriety or even moral necessity for a resort to force and violence is not the same as preparing a group for violent action and steeling it to such action."

Herndon v. Lowry, 301 U. S. 242, 301 U. S. 259-261 (1937); Bond v. Floyd, 385 U. S. 116, 385 U. S. 134 (1966).
"A statute which fails to draw this distinction impermissibly intrudes upon the freedoms guaranteed by the First and Fourteenth Amendments. It sweeps within its condemnation speech which our Constitution has immunized from governmental control."

Bradenburg v. Ohio, 395 U. S. 444 (1969),
"Since the statute, by its words and as applied, purports to punish mere advocacy and to forbid, on pain of criminal punishment, assembly with others merely to advocate the described type of action, it falls within the condemnation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Freedoms of speech and press do not permit a State to forbid advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action."

tl;dr No, incitement to violence is not a slippery slope. It's very clearly defined to defend constitutional freedoms from overreaching forces.

Serious / Re: On the matter of women and the vote
« on: January 06, 2016, 09:14:17 AM »
It's basically a political fact that the female vote has a liberal leaning, if I understand the question. It can also make a good difference between a win or a loss, too; something like 5-20pc difference in the polls iirc. It's why McCain took Palin as his running mate, to try and win over that vote. It's one of the reasons Clinton did so well.

If you're talking about psychology, then yeah, there is a difference between how men and women generally process and prioritize information. I don't think that's a reason to support unequal legislation, though.

1. Persona 5 - Day 1 CE preorder

2. Horizon: Zero Dawn - Original IP that looks neat.

3. Zelda U - I bought a Wii U and there aren't a *ton* of great exclusives for it. A new Zelda game is just what it needs.

4. The Division - Eh, Ubisoft doesn't have an amazing track record over the past few years, but Splinter Cell is the only Tom Clancy IP that's ever really suffered. Cautiously optimistic.

5. Dishonored 2 - Hope there are more non-lethal options this time around. Two protagonists sounds cool.
I thought you'd be into Nier or something, I thought that was coming out this year

Or is it someone else who's into that? >.>
omg I forgot that was 2016, I keep thinking it's way off in the future.
I thought they never said?
playstationlifestyle says 2016.
hoooooooooo
It looks interesting, would it be worth playing if I've never played the first one? I don't have a PS3 ;___;
It will have maybe a few cameos, but Kamiya's already said that it will have no relevance to the first game.

it's hard to classify apocalypse now as a war movie, actually

the war is just the setting--it has little to do with the plot

but w/e
I've seen Rambo, Forrest Gump, and all that too. I just don't really consider them "war movies" for similar reasons.

Jarhead
The Hurt Locker
Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
War Horse

And that's pretty much every war movie that I've seen.

Percussive Maintenance is an approved rite of the mechanicus

You just have to be careful not to leave any lasting damage to the machine because creating resentment in it's machine-spirit is going to lead to electrocution, gassing, disintegration, explosions and worse.
Of course, it's like taking the heads of your enemies to put on a spike. You can't accomplish a proper decapitation if you mutilate the corpse beyond recognition. All things in moderation.

Treat technology with care, unless it's really old and needs a tune-up.

most centrist users?
i think aria's the only one here who pretty much goes out of her way to be centrist
I don't have to go out of my way to end up in the middle, I just gravitate towards it most of the time.
there's just not a whole lot that you seem to have much conviction over (that i'm aware of)

you don't like debate much, either, so it makes me think that maybe you actively seek the middle ground
Nah. I just don't know enough about something to make a stance or I'm indifferent in those situations. In the majority of cases that I'm not either of those, my position is moderate.

The middle ground is nice in that you aren't singled out, but you get a bit of flak from both sides for not taking a stronger position.

Nope, metaphor is just simpler to use.

I've heard the "Making a mountain out of a molehill" phrase before, and yours was just a modified version so I wasn't sure if you made it up or not.
The difference is that garden spiders are helpful, they eat crop-destroying pests. The metaphor is that they're making some good out to be something terrible.

Which is why I never stated how original or not ASOIAF is. GRRM cited it as an inspiration for his books, and he self-admittedly thinks that TAK is far and away superior.

I was just pointing out a better alternative to ASOIAF.
In what way is it better? just curious
Besides it lacking GRRM's love of shitting and food? More intriguing factions that play off of each other more often than shooting off one liners within their ranks.

In George's words, "believe me, the Starks and the Lannisters have nothing on the Capets and Plantagenets."

Highlighted for convenience, I addressed that.
Well, I'm just saying. I was adding to your initial point there, but simply taking it further. Everything is derivative, so it just seemed like a redundant point to make.

Uh

The Accursed Kings is based on the French monarchy leading up to the Hundred Years War. Fiction based on nonfiction.
That doesn't mean Shakespeare didn't tell the same essential story being told.

Shakespeare pretty much told every story worth telling before everyone.
Everything's the same if you generalize enough. It's not even a fair example in the first place. That's like dismissing Star Wars, not for its simple nature, but because The Hero With a Thousand Faces did it first.
I already dismiss Star Wars...

Do I at least get brownie points for supporting FREEDOM?
Silly girl, if you supported freedom, you'd be a Libertarian.
