Fully functioning doesn't necessarily mean fully developed; if he was sober and not under the effects of any illness, all of his cognitive abilities were fully functioning.

Oh yeah, cause it is impossible to form actual opinions on music that have nothing to do with other people or their popularity.
It's not that people don't like them that's bizarre, it's that it went to being just another example of early 00's rock to Linkin Park-tier (some of their stuff is good too tbh) practically overnight. The only thing I can't think of is people taking the skeleton chair meme out of context and thinking that it's more than just a funny as fuck picture.
Well, I don't know about that. I don't like them because it's template post grunge with template female rock lead, and both are just not good. There are great female lead rock bands, and Amy Lee doesn't even have a bad voice to begin with anyway.
That's fine and dandy. I understand why someone could dislike them, I just don't understand why suddenly everyone threw them in with LP to shit on. It didn't look like a gradual shift in opinion, it was like everyone decided, "yeah, actually fuck them" at the same time. The only recent exposure them even getting was their 2011 album (nobody paid attention to it) and the skeleton chair meme. I'm not confused on why, I'm confused on why now and why it was a breakneck transition.

Like I said awhile ago, it's for the exact same reason people mock the ever-loving shit out of Linkin Park.
Their music is just extremely angsty and melodramatic, and that's easy to make fun of.
Amy Lee has a good voice, but her lyrics are just maudlin to the point of corniness.
That sounds like 9/10 early 00's rock bands though. Three Days Grace is the definition of emotional and melodramatic, but I don't see them get half the shit that Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit does.
