That's my way of saying "it's solidly in the mediocre range (5-6)." It's got the fun of a $20 indie game; a few hours of novelty, and then it wears on you. There's so little reason to play after you realize how obtuse discovering an entire planet is (different birds, plants, etc that look exactly the same), issues with procedural generation (buildings spawning with no doors, the same crashed ship on every planet, things starting to look samey), bugs that are still in the game relating to suit upgrades, poorly-planned out item-stack limits, and so on. These are all issues with the game that greatly impair it's "goodness" without even mentioning how the game was marketed.

You of all people should know that being "fun" doesn't make it good. It's a subjective descriptor. By all accounts, I would not call it a good game. Everything about this game reeks of being an unpolished mess. It's not DNF, but it's not good: ESPECIALLY for a $60 price-tag.
Huh, I almost completely forgot that it's a $60 game. I was lucky and paid $10 for it--I suppose if I paid six times more, I'd be a lot sharper with my criticism. I definitely wouldn't have paid full-price for this, and I'm not sure why I didn't factor that in at first.

By how much I love defending it, you might think I love the game, but I don't. I agree--I'd give it no more than a 5/10 myself. But just as having a hyped-up media circus around a game is the perfect set-up for mass eventual disappointment, a shitstorm of anti-hype and vitriol towards another game can make you feel a lot more sympathetic--or at least, more willing to study the game's flaws and give it the credit it deserves for what it actually did right.

That's how I work, anyway. It's easy for me to find the pros when everyone else is busy chewing on the cons. In particular, I think the fact that each of the alien races you encounter all speak their own unique language is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a video game. Because in every other game that features aliens, they all speak English, and they always have to try and come up with some bullshit excuse for why. And in NMS, the fact that you have to decipher all the languages yourself is another stroke of brilliance that never gets talked about.

It's little things like that that make me think, "Huh, this game is actually pretty cool." Because they're not actually little things--they're huge things. The entire experience, for me, teaches you not to take the little things for granted by putting them centerstage in a vast, otherwise nihilistically-empty universe. That shit's cool as fuck to me.

So, no, I'm afraid that I simply cannot agree that it's not a good game "by all accounts." You're free to have that opinion, though, and I respect that you're standing your ground on that.
I'm not saying it doesn't have its pros; the space-ground flight and the alien languages are pretty neat. If it had no redeemable factors, it would have been much lower than a 5. The issues is that most of its greater aspects rely on novelty, enough so that it wouldn't make it a "good" game. Mediocre is just the best thing to describe it.

When I say "aggressively mediocre", that's exactly what I mean. I don't think it should be below or above that; otherwise, a little bias is showing imo.

What game, for better or worse, has had the largest impact on the decade thus far? The most notable game?

someone described it as "aggressively mediocre" earlier--it's not even that. that just sounds like someone who's SO desperate to dislike the game no matter what, while still feigning a "i'm in the middle, i'm such a reasonable person haha" attitude

I just Solo-Queued with a bunch of One-Stars in QP. I ran with it as Zarya. Not only did we skunk the other team (mostly because they had two Symmetras on Ilios for some ungodly reason), but I didn't do terrible as Zarya for once. I also kicked as as D.Va on Lijang the game before. Very satisfied with my play right now, which means it's time to get stuck with Hanzo/ 2 Genji/ Widow Maker/ Ana (that doesn't heal) again.

Mass Effect 3's terrible ending can hardly be described as 'mediocre'.
we're not talking about the worst ending of the decade, though

Imagine you were eating the tastiest veggie burger you've ever had; it's juicy, succulent, and a great meal after two delicious vegan appetizers. Just as you take the last bite, the chef runs out and informs you that there was a mistake and the burger was actually 100% beef. That's kind of like playing Mass Effect 3.
>Food analogies

But actually pretty accurate tbh, in the example I probably would be hesitant to visit the restaurant again after that.

Nope, Street Fighter V.
Meming aside, I'll give you worst launch of the decade.
MCC says "hi"
I dunno. Do you know how bad SFV's launch was?

In MCC, at least you had single player to hold you over.
IIRC, weren't there some bugs with that as well?

Seriously then, Brink was awful. Backbreaker was too because they were saying it was something that could go up against Madden.
As someone who didn't see all of the hype for it, Brink was bordering on passable.

Calling NMS "worst game of the decade" is a bit of an over-exaggeration. I'd label it "aggressively mediocre".

Phara's concussive blast is pretty good at bouncing yourself away from an enemy ult if you don't want to use the jump pack yet
Pivot 180 and fire it at a wall behind you while you jump and it'll launch you forward. Great speed boost off a respawn on maps like Anubis where jumping isn't practical right off the bat.

She's basically a Quake Champion. Surprised she doesn't have a skin named "Ranger" tbh

Loyalty also means being brutally honest from time to time, and telling them what a knuckle-dragger they're being. And loyalty should come alongside respect; if you hold no reverence for someone, what is loyalty but a hollow ideal?

Jesus fucking christ I hate Tracer with a passion.
how come

seems she gets a lot of shit

She just speeds around and can spam that annoying ass teleporter move. Trying to shoot her and BAM she's behind you. It's not like Bastion's turret mode where you can just pick it off from afar or teleport behind it, she just zoops around the battlefield like a pesky gnat.
If a tracer is impacting the game enough that she deserves a counter, use Roadhog, Pharah, or a hitscan character. Torbjörn's turret also wrecks her because the AI is 100% accurate.

Some of the episodes in Justice League Unlimited felt out of place
I feel you. I loved some of the expanded cast, but a few of the episodes without the main JL were just... boring.
There was an entire episode just for Booster Gold. Literally why.

Some of the expanded cast were great though like Green Arrow, Black Canary, Question, and Huntress. I enjoyed those episodes as much as the ones with the main cast.
At least Booster Gold is a pretty good character. Comics BG, anyways.

I think they really need to add a 'Stay by the fucking payload' button to the quick chat option. It's so goddamn irritating when your teammates are just fucking around like they're playing CoD
They get random reminders in the voice of other heroes, but maybe being able to spam a "Losing the objective!" button would help.

>That one moment when you're down by one in QP and your team pulls together and wins with perfect synchronization

Splendid

Meanwhile I get stuck with shit like this

The worst decision is, when you have a team like that, deciding whether you'll be the healer or the tank.

Neither works because my team was dicking around and not staying near the objective. At that point I just said fuck it and picked Hanzo to practice taking potshots at the enemy team. There was no hope.
When teams are committed to a 5 man offense, commit to a dive hero like Winston, Lucio, Genji, Hanzo, Pharah, S76, etc. You're playing a Selfish Solo Queue, and your "teamwork" will be eliminating pressure on your teammates.

If you can't win, save yourself.

1. Use 'sit' emote in spawn point
2. Spam "We need a healer!"
3. Wave as teammates run by
That implies that QP randoms give a shit about that, and don't just think "someone else will do it".

In some ways, I'm glad that the only Offense hero I find fun is Pharah. Tanking and support are much more fun.

Batman and Wonder Woman.
Wally West instead of Barry Allen.
I would have been okay with Wally as Flash, he was the Flash for a long time and most veteran DC fans associate more with him. What I'm not okay with is Wally West as Flash with a red-head Kid Flash. It's like they've never considered using a Kid Flash in TV that wasn't Wally before.
