Looks great, sounds great, story progression/side quests are great, combat is great (despite taking time to acclimate to)
It's a great game, but not 10/10 best game of all time.
When I played number 2 the combat was kind of basic and uninteresting, is it improved in 3?
I hated the combat in 2, so I'd say so. It would be better to call combat "good" rather than "great", but it's definitely an improvement.

Besides the story, animation, and everyone being coated on a layer of grease, everything sans main quest is literally MMO-tier sidequests. "Get 5 goat hides for the hunter", "find the seven apostate treasure chests", etc.

the dungeons aren't just random hallways all the time again oh good
Yeah there is actual design to the story dungeons, which all look lovely and you feel like you're a thief with how you sneak into places. Only criticism is there is another dungeon place called Mementos, which is basically where you grind out if you want extra levels/different personas, and that place is repetitive.
I find the Mementos floors to be brief enough to avoid getting annoying. Besides, Spoiler They start getting creepy later on. I like it. My biggest criticism is that it holds your hand too much in the first part of the game. You're not really free to do what you want until about 8-10 hours in. At least you get your first unscripted battle sooner than P4.
