The Flood / Re: What do you think of me« on: June 11, 2017, 04:06:12 AM »I understand that much; my point is, factors such and sex and race shouldn't be taken into account when deciding the character of a person. I think that women are wrongly held to a higher standard, while men are held to a lesser standard. We shouldn't call women "bitches" for being assertive, nor men "pussies" for deferring to others. We are all people, and we should support that which makes the most sense.there's a reason we use the word "reverse" in these contexts"Reverse chauvinism"? Eh, I agree to the assertion that all people should be held to the same standard, regardless of race of sex.oh you mean the "discussion" where i was purposely being a foil to his own reverse chauvinismI believe Class is referring to the discussing on women being held to a higher standard, where Class argued that women should be held to the same standard as man less it be unfair to women.(that literally argument for double standards was ridiculous)what Not to say you were wrong for using "reverse" in this context, I merely didn't understand the point you were meaning to convey. 1773

The Flood / Re: What do you think of me« on: June 11, 2017, 03:46:03 AM »i thought i created an air of acceptance, too, but i guess i just don'tA friend isn't someone you necessarily tell "everything" to. A therapist, that's who you tell everything to. That's the role I seem to play to most of my friends. Not sure if that's good or not. Parental dictation requires a degree of judgement, and that's not a bad thing; some people do need parental advice outside of their actual parents, especially if their parents haven't properly taught them what they need. But many children hide things from their parents for fear of judgement; that's why it's nice for them to know there's someone who won't like or dislike them any less for their thoughts. My #1 rule is that I won't say anything I wouldn't say to someone's face; and I have gone back and recounted things I've said about my friends, good or bad. It inspires confidence in them that I will always be honest to them, regardless of the situation, without being unduly rude to them. 1784
The Flood / Re: What do you think of me« on: June 11, 2017, 03:38:30 AM »As long as you can separate the fictional aspects created by the film and the technical aspects proposed by the director and investors, it's fine. I still disagree with your belief in there being no such thing as "bad acting"; the best way I could explain this context would be to say that it tips the viewing experience away from "immersion" into "technical reading" in such a way that you don't accurately experience the world the creator meant it to be experienced (within a certain margin of error of course, given that no two people view things the samw way).sureWould you consider them two separate aspects though?i can be totally immersed in a film and still be analyzing the technical aspectsBecause I'm arguing what the point of every story is. The meta aspects are a perversion of the inherent purpose of the story (total immersion), just like a lie is a perversion of the inherent purpose of language (communicating thoughts).Literally look at the purpose of a story from the most basic, caveman standpoint.why in god's name would i do that 1785
The Flood / Re: What do you think of me« on: June 11, 2017, 03:33:25 AM »It's not an issue of being mean; I'm not nice either. I just create the atmosphere of acceptance, regardless of thought or credence. My mother herself (a hardcore Republican, climate change denial and everything) couldn't even figure out my stance on issues without me outright telling her.Like here, I tend to be very un-judgemental irl, so my friends have 0 issues with telling me their issues. If anything, people tend to tell me more than I'm comfortable with solely because they know I'll tell them things without being mean, but also without lying to them.i'm not mean to my friends either It's why, optimistically, I'd hope to be a judge one day. Realistically, I'll be dead before that's possible. 1786

The Flood / Re: What do you think of me« on: June 11, 2017, 03:24:38 AM »this is the first negative post i've seen about the show, everIts biggest issue is that it's too overbearing on issues that are pretty obvious, and tries too hard on randumb humor. The Szechuan Sauce in the April Fools episode is the most obvious of the latter issue. 1792

If anything, people tend to tell me more than I'm comfortable with solely because they know I'll tell them things without being mean, but also without lying to them. For example, the friends and that I have and my family (extended, to relevance) all know why I don't like Trump (including those that voted for him), but all accept it as [at least] a difference in political views.Ultimately this is an anecdotal thing, but I know the intimate details of all of my bffs livesi mean, so do i—but it's different, because people tend to filter it in ways that make them look better On second though, maybe I'm just the kind of politician that cons people into thinking that I represent them (aka the worst kind. the only good kind properly states their stances and wins based on their own merits). 1793

The Flood / Re: What do you think of me« on: June 11, 2017, 03:12:55 AM »Disagree. It's something you can determine in an analysis of the film, but ultimately you should be immersed in the characters, not the actors. That's not to say there aren't actors you enjoy regardless of role (for me, Kevin Spacey and Jake Gyllenhaal), but the purpose of acting is to create the belief of people in a world outside/within ours beyond the confines of a film.Maybe, but that's not something you recognize when you view the film. There are no actors. Harrison Ford isn't in a studio running from a prop, Indiana Jones is desperately sprinting away from a giant boulder that's about to crush him. The actor doesn't exist, and neither do any meta aspects like film quality or writing mechanics. It might be enjoyable to list off the tropes you can see, but it detracts from the nature of a story itself, not to mention viewing pleasure.so i mulled this post over and i've determined that absolutely none of this is true 1796

The closest one can be is "someone I like", or "an associate". While those terms are somewhat derogatory for someone you've spoken to face-to-face, it's one of the highest honers that one who isn't known personally can have.tbh I'm like the opposite of Classi'm sure you realize, it would be a lot easier for people to like you if you were less reluctant to make friends over the internet, right And while I also know some intimate details of the lives of people I know online, the digital barrier keeps me from associating with them more closely. 1799
