The Flood / Re: How is everybody doing? It's been a while and I want to talk.« on: June 19, 2019, 10:16:29 PM »All of that is still a wip for me unfortunately, but focusing more on myself and what I can do day-to-day has massively improved my general mood and health. That and a somewhat recent event brought me to the realization that I want to live because, if for no greater reason besides fear of the afterlife, I want to continue to experience things. Watching a new movie, traveling, trying new foods, having conversations and reading from sources I normally wouldn't, etc etc. Life can be awful, and so can the world, but that can't stop me from seeing everything it has to offer with my small amount of time here.Over the past few months I've primarily been focused on maintaining my inner peace, and now I'm trying to get my life back on track without losing it.Not needing to worry about the future is a wonderful aid. Not needing to worry about death or the overall state of the world is nice. 162

Gaming / Re: Rape day - removed from Steam« on: March 08, 2019, 06:09:18 PM »Now here's a question, if there was a game with a story that needed a single rape scene to move the plot and invoke an emotional response in the player; would that be okay? Would that be drawing the line? I think video games are also getting a stigma just for being games is also playing a role here. Movies and books and TV shows have been doing this for a while now; and while those mediums tend not to have blatant trolling situations like Rape Day, there's never any real scrutiny against them on the matter. It feels like a game with what I described in the first sentence would still get demonized to Hell and back. One can create a piece of art that interacts with controversial and terrible things to either lend to a larger, more important theme or to comment on those things itself. If it is done tastefully and carefully, then it is okay. Most people are unable to meet either of those standards, unfortunately, regardless of their good intent. 169

The West has a cultural fascination and love of violence. Slashers, war films, super heroes, Avatar, and even Disney: what do they have in common? Even if it isn't explicitly shown, or overtly bloody, we popularly prefer our fights to be physical. Guns, bare-knuckle brawls, knives, pushes, and torches. Despite this, there have still been controversies around violence in video games. MW2 did still make appearances in the news, Jack Thompson and Hillary Clinton had their attempt at regulating the industry in response to GTA IV. Sexual violence has always been a touchy subject, and in the post-#MeToo world it's a taboo. There's never been a place for it to get footing in our culture, and unless something horrible happens it never will.

Gaming / Re: Blizzard gets fucking destroyed« on: November 04, 2018, 02:38:25 PM »but during the Q&A they said that they had no plans for a PC gameWhen did they say this? They've said in the past that they have multiple Diablo projects in the works and weeks ago said that "the thing [we] want isn't ready to be shown yet." They've since reiterated this in articles about Immortal like this ("I can say to them, we have not forgotten you. Weโll have more news to share at some point in the future.") and this (โwe still have multiple Diablo teams working on multiple unannounced Diablo projects.โ) Nobody likes shitty reskins of mobile games (very similar to other NetEase games, the developer of Immortal) and hands-on tests are lukewarm at best (the most damning thing so far). Let's not say Blizzard has been hyping this up as Diablo 4 when they have been-- both before and after-- repeated to the fanbase that they have multiple Diablo projects in the works, and that they would show one of them off at Blizzcon. You don't have to like it (I sure as hell don't), but let's not fall into the trap of the rage machine. Blizzard has done a shit job of damage control, however. I don't think the hate should have gotten this bad in the first place, but they're practically stirring the pot. 176
