I don't see how buying a second monitor to enjoy is any different than buying a Nintendo DS.
Because the two setups are being used for different purposes. The DS's touch screen wasn't implemented to give the user more workspace--it's there to create a field through which the player can interact with their game in a unique, tactile way which introduces a lot of new innovative mechanics and such. It's not really comparable.
That was an awful example, sorry. I meant they're both luxuries, so what's the difference?

Typing a few big paragraphs does not equate to getting "absolutely railed" and I'm sure that wasn't even Flee's intention. He could've said what he had to say in three or four sentences and I would've responded the same exact way.
I still think dual monitoring is stupid, but at least Flee could help me understand why he prefers it. It's really just a preference. He finds minimizing tedious and annoying--I find it convenient and simple, even when I have 20 windows open.
He also didn't make the investment himself, so that's even better.
