Serious / Re: Should AI be given equal rights?« on: September 24, 2014, 10:07:20 AM »Definitely. Here's a followup question though: if we somehow had the capability to clone or grow non-sentient animals in the homo genus (basically the nearest ancestor to humans that did not have sentience or sapience), would it be unethical to use them as slave labor in the same way we use machines?I think that it would be inefficient. 10210
Serious / Re: Should AI be given equal rights?« on: September 24, 2014, 09:17:52 AM »dat passive aggressionYou should be educated, idiot. Robots are not fucking alive. They are a hunk of metal and wires. Animals are living and deserve more rights. If you're actually supporting the idea to give pieces of metal rights then give rocks, sand, fire, etc equal rightsHumans are an amalgamation of factors which gives rise to intelligence and emotion. If a robot is capable of reaching such a conclusion with a different amalgamation, the situation remains the same. 10211

When programs can write themselves, there will be a sharp decrease in the need for programmers. Skilled one will still be in demand, though

Say that, oh fuck I dunno, Apple invents iTeleport. Assuming it doesn't fuck up like most of their products are known to, it works by saving the state of every particle of your body, destroying your body, and rebuilding your body elsewhere.
Everything about every particle in your body is identical after reconstruction, and all of the energy in your body is identically placed. The new you is a conscious human being, identical to the you before teleportation. The question is whether or not the new you actually has the same consciousness that the old you had. Obviously, the new you would have all of the same memories, experiences, etc. up until the point of destruction, so the new you would feel as if he had been alive for all of that time. But is it really the same person? Did one consciousness end, or was it transferred somehow? I think that this is a terrifying thought if we ever do perfect teleportation. I'd certainly never use it. 10220
