Gaming / Re: The Xbone's UI is absolutely terrible.
« on: December 29, 2014, 05:33:55 PM »

"Boo-hoo I don't like Xbox so i'll repeat a silly complaint of PS fanboys over and over"
How does find the UI to be bad make the person a "PS3 fanboy"? If anybody is a fanyboy it's the person with that retarded logic.
Quote
The UI is very functional and easy to navigate
How is something with this many steps easy to navigate?
Quote
1.Start from Home (press the Xbox button on your controller to go Home).
2.Go to My games and apps.
3.Highlight the content that you want to uninstall.
4.Press the Menu button on your controller.
5.Select Manage Game or Manage App.
6.Press the Menu button on your controller again.
7.Select Uninstall.
With the 360 all you had to do was go to the storage area, choose the section for memory, select the game and delete it. It is straight forward as hell. With the Xbone it's just a confusing mess. It's sad that I had to go onto YouTube just to find out how to do that. With the 360 I didn't because the UI for that was smartly planned out. Also with the 360 checking your messages or friends list is a hell of a lot easier and faster.
1. There is a memory section in settings on the X1
2. Not my fault you are incapable of exploring a very, very simple OS
3. I agree with you on messages, there should be a proper inbox easily available, although you can find all your messages in friends
4. The friends list has a whole section, which is updated and can be clicked to immediately access the app, easy as fuck. Or using Kinect...
5. The faster element is null for me, I just use Kinect, so the new OS is very fast for me

Man, just shut the fuck up. You're talking out of your ass now.

It's not my type of game. It feels clunky sometimes in it's game mechanics, Uncharted 3 had this problem too, but it's story holds it up a lot.

8/10. Had fun playing it. Probably won't play it again.

I'm the exact opposite. I loathe the Uncharted series, and seriously don't understand the hype around it. It's gameplay is boring. It goes from puzzle, to shoot-em-up room, to platform, to puzzle, and on, and on, and on. And the story isn't all that great, either. Every single game has the same kind of ending.

Whereas TLOU has worse gameplay mechanics, but more fun gameplay. The pacing of walking around and searching for supplies and the the random enemy group or clicker crowd flows nicely. The story is also unarguably a masterpiece.

I saw how bad the AI is, but still a nicely developed game with few flaws.

What are it's flaws?

I play on Xbox so I've only ever watched playthroughs of it. However the story is fantastic. The gameplay looks a bit average to be honest then again I haven't played it. I'd like to know what your opinion is on The Walking Dead game? I thought the story was a lot more effective then Tlou's but they're both good in each respect.

To be honest, I've never played TWD. I generally stay away from the zombie genre, as I see that it's pretty played out. The only reason I picked up TLOU was because ND has always made some of my favourite games (aside from Uncharted, which I really can't enjoy for some reason).

If someone bought it for me, I'd probably play it for an hour and see if I liked it. But other than that, I don't see myself playing it.

Honestly one of my most favourite games.

The apocalypse end of civilization story itself isn't a masterpiece, but the way it's told and how the characters develop is what makes it what it is.

Exactly. Were it not for the AI, I'd argue this game is flawless.
Ellie's and Tess' AI were pretty rubbish. The fact that enemies wouldn't detect them unless you've been detected yourself is annoying.

Look at this, though.

http://youtu.be/kbLOokeC3VU?t=3m28s

Look how the enemy knows when you're mag is empty. Or how they flank you and try to blindside you.

Obviously it's a demo, so it's supposed to look pretty for marketing purposes. But I remember reading somewhere that the AI was even more advanced than this and it was cut because it was too hard. It's just a shame.

I just posted this on a YouTube comment section where many people were talking about how the game was "average at best", blah, blah, blah. You've heard it all before.

It's one of my favourite games of all time, and would enjoy a debate about it.

Anyways, here it is:

Spoiler
Ignoring the story (which is unarguably, a masterpiece), the gameplay is also great. It's not on the same level as the story, but it doesn't hinder the experience in any way. The problem with this game is that it NEEDS to be played on the higher difficulties. When I first picked this up for my PS4, I played it on the easiest difficulty (I used to play games out-the-box on their hardest difficulty, but stopped after Uncharted. I felt it ruined the experience for me.) I beat it within 8 hours, and had to admit, the game was over-hyped and average at best. But, me, being the trophy hunter I am, decided to try the hardest difficulty.

And the experience changed completely.

Suddenly, death was meaningful and often times, brutally punishing. You could last through 3 waves of Clickers or runners, managing your various supplies and 3 bullets for your magnum, and then suddenly forget about the one wounded enemy you thought you finished off earlier, which makes you start off all the way from the beginning. You had to carefully choose when to shoot a round and when to toss a brick. It is a carefully crafted, intricate survival system that, if taken out of the game, actually degrades the overall product.

Same goes for the cover system. While a traditional system might've helped some players enjoy the game more (initially), I think having the current system helps the game break out from the conventions of it's genre and deliver the experience ND wanted to.

Truthfully, the only complaint I would consider valid is the AI, both enemy and ally. It is straight-up, RETARDED. This is disheartening, consider the E3 trailer showed off incredibly intelligent AI that would've made this already difficult game on a whole other level. But I don't need to harp on that, Dunkey already demonstrated what I'm talking about.

This is just my two cents. Take it or leave it, I'd love to have a discussion if your opinion differs.

« on: December 28, 2014, 06:36:15 PM »
I'm pretty sure that's not even possible, and that wouldn't even make any sense. They call it the Master Chief collection for a reason, it isn't meant to be every fucking Halo game together.

ODST remastered

Your argument is invalid
ODST is not being remastered. It's simply a 1080p 60fps port.

The Last of Us remastered would like a word with you.
That got more than a resolution and framerate bump.
Like what?
Textures, draw distance, shadows, and improved character models.

Okay, I still don't think that's enough to constitute the "remastered" title.

Besides, I'm pretty sure those things were only tweaked slightly, and that they were used for more marketing purposes and justifying a $60 price point.

It's obvious that Destiny was planned to be more, but that something happened to it about a year before release.

It's actually quite depressing, considering the game that Destiny could've been (and apparently, was, in 2013).

I'm not trying to move blame from Bungie to Activision or vice-versa. But you'd be stupid to think that this (Destiny, in it's current state) is the game Bungie (including Staten and Jones) have been dreaming about since 2004.

Just my two cents.

I don't think anything else came close to the enjoyment I got out of these 4

Honorable mentions
Infamous second son: if it was longer it would have easily made the list, but I shouldn't be able to beat an open world single player game in as fast as you can beat this one

Sunset overdrive: I didn't play it enough to really judge but it was fun

Smash bros because smash bros

Edit: switch pokemon and dragon age and it will be in the order if favorite to least favorite

Nice to see you didn't enjoy our time on Destiny  :'(
I think if you, Brendan/James, and I played any game we could make it fun. The game was fun but not inherently good plus I'm still salty about the whole dlc thing

Yeah, I get it. If there was something else out that was enjoyable (for me) as Destiny, I'd be playing that. There just happens to be like no multiplayer games that are enjoyable for a casual like Brendan, a more well-versed gamer like yourself, and someone like me in the middle.
I would say we're equally well versed/ casual. But yeah there's really nothing good for multiplayer right now. Everything either has like a small multiplayer that isn't the focal point, or is poop like AW

Lolno. I literally had to BEG Brendan to buy Destiny (which I thought would be a much more hardcore game) because he usually just buys CoD games. He's a real casual, albeit, a good one. He destroys in CoD.

James is a little less casual than Brendan, but still only plays games like AC, GTA, etc.

I'd say I'm less casual than those two, as I play a wider range of games, but I still enjoy playing my CoDs and my Halo 4s and such.

And even if you don't consider yourself a "hardcore" gamer, you play more difficult/hardcore games like Dark Souls and Dragon Age, which are games I never really see myself playing.

But yeah, no MP games right now. Is there anything you're looking forward to next year? Because the only thing on PS4 I can think of that I'm looking forward to (MP-wise) is Metal Gear Online. And maybe Black Ops 3, and if that doesn't exist, than if the new CoD is WW2, I'll prob buy that.

Plus, Comet DLC for Destiny (which I will buy, as I'm sure that wasn't completed prior to release of the game, and I'm using it as a "second chance" for Bungie to see if they still possess competency, as it's probably cheaper than buying Destiny 2.)

In case you haven't caught on, I'm trying to figure out what games we're both buying.
I will be buying treyarchs next cod, all I'm really looking forward to next year is blood borne but then again I generally don't get hyped for games long before release unless it's something I think will be really good. Uncharted if that does come out next year as well. Fingers crossed that some type of good multiplayer game is released before the summer gaming drought. I may end up getting an Xbox one sooner rather than later, it all depends how much my books for next semester cost.

You getting an X1 would be great, we could play MCC and H5. I really want to like Bloodborne but I think I'm too casual for it .

Kinda wish Arkham knight had a better version of Origin's multiplayer. Yeah, it was shit, but it was so fun to make fun of (like Destiny) with friends.

I felt like making this. It's 2 AM, and I need something to do. Tell me your list of the best games you've played this year. Ratings and reasons why you enjoyed them are a nice touch.

This is just a list of games I've played for the first time in 2014, they don't have to be released within the year.

MY top 5 games of 2014:

5: Destiny
I know, I know. I was disappointed, too. But I've simply put too much time into this game to not include it. It does have redeeming qualities, like the art style, gameplay, and raids. Besides, no other new IPs this year interested me, as they were all delayed or broken.
4/10, worth half price.

4: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Like I said, some of these games didn't come out in 2014, but this was the first time I played them. While I can understand some people's dislike for this game, it really feels like Kojima's best was put into the game. For a PS2 game, the detail put into this game is astounding. While MGS 3 is phenomenal as well, this is a nice send off (cheapened by MGSIV, mind you) for Snake and has something extremely intelligent to say about society and the internet.
8/10, worth more than it's priced.

3: Pokemon Alpha Ruby/Omega Sapphire

While it remains my least favourite region/generation in Pokemon, the game tries to fix some of the shortcomings of the original (my favourite being the faster surfing speeds and the less common wild pokemon encounters while surfing). The jump to 3D is also great, and I managed to procure a nice Ruby red 2DS that is reminiscent of the Gameboy colour/Gameboy Advance. Great game, far better than the original.
6/10, worth the buy.

2: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Many of you may have remembered me on Bungie.net a few months ago just starting to get into the MGS series. After playing them all (MGS1-4, 2 being my favourite and 4 being my least), I managed to pick this game up in September the week before Destiny came out. While the complaints about the game's content/price were extremely justified, you simply cannot deny the game's fantastic gameplay, graphics and animation. As Hipi said on Bungie.net,

"I told you. MGSV's gameplay is sex."

Since the price drop, I'd highly recommend buying this game if you haven't already.

6/10, worth no more than $20.

1: The Last of Us Remastered

Yes, it's a re-release. But I never played the original, and the upgrade to 1080p and 60 FPS is stunning. It honestly has become my favourite game of all time, as it's been months since I finished it and still can't get it out of my head. Gameplay and story is flawless, the only issue I have with the game is the average AI, when the one advertised was far superior to the straight-up RETARDED ones we got on release. (Apparently, the more difficult and intelligent AI was scrapped a few months prior to release because it was too difficult, which is not only upsetting, but almost insulting.)
If you own a PS3/4 and haven't played this, buy it now. For best results, play on hard or Grounded.*

* ask me more if you want to see my reasons

9/10, worth the price.

They might toss it in if they do a Halo 3 anniversary DLC.

This is what I'm interested in. If they're planning on adding H3A to the MCC or release it separately. They'd be stupid not to make some preparations for 3, and since they are adding ODST, it leads me to believe they'll add Reach sometime in the future.

No but for real the remakes are really good. And I genuinely like halo 3 and emerald Despite Their flaws so suck it

Yeah, the remakes are far better than the originals. I think they did their best to fix the flaws in the 3rd gen (mainly, the surfing speed and surfing wild pokemon encounter rate, the former was sped up and the latter was reduced.)

I like Emerald too but it's still the worst Pokemon.
True, but being the worst  game is like being the worst Ferrari.

Good analogy. The way I explain it to people is, "if it's your first Pokemon game, don't play it. If you enjoy the others, play this one."

Whenever I suggest Pokemon to someone, I always recommend them in this order: FireRed, SoulSilver, Platinum, Black and White (followed by their sequels), X and Y, and the OR/AS.
I make people play Yellow version first so they hate pokemon

You don't like Yellow? Wtf you can get all 3 starters and alter your rival's eeveelution.
try to go back and play any of the original three. It makes me want to stab my eyes out

Well, I mean, yeah. But that's the case in any game you play (it's why I don't enjoy MGS 1 as much as 3). But for it's time, it was great. I would love a Yellow remake (given that your Pikachu can be buffed, because a Raichu is shit and it's the evolution of Pikachu.)

Whenever I suggest Pokemon to someone, I always recommend them in this order: FireRed, SoulSilver, Platinum, Black and White (followed by their sequels), X and Y, and the OR/AS.

Those are your choices. And the correct one should be obvious.

Someone who fucking gets it, finally. This is a no-brainer.
You don't know anything about anything

Bruh
R/S/E is the Halo 3 of the Pokemon franchise. People who like it are blinded by nostalgia.
you're blinded by your faggotry, gaydalf shitler. Emerald is objectively the greatest game to grace the earth, objectively.
