Septagon / The site should be zoomed in at 150% by default...
« on: January 16, 2018, 04:33:36 PM »
There's a lot of wasted space on the sides of the actual text location. Names and titles fit better for some reason (they look centered at 150%), and the site is no longer hard to read for me.

Also, another suggestion that would be appreciated would be an image auto downsizer to fit pictures on one screen. Even at the regular zoom, my photos aren't fully-visible. It seems like the site was designed with mobile users in mind.

I realise these are all relatively easy fixes on my part, but just thought I'd throw these out there on the off chance they're easy to implement or whatever.

To me, the site just looks cleaner at 150%. The subforums are nicely spaced.. everything just has a nicer look.

She's this small girl who works at the front desk. she has a quiet demeanor but she doesn't lack confidence. it's a very familiar disposition. i dunno there's just something i find welcoming about her. considering i've only ever worked with 40 year old dudes it's uncharted territory for me.

it was pretty embarassing when i came back from work with mayonaise on my face and she pointed it out lol, but i played it off well enough and she didn't really seem to think anything of it. it came off as endearing.

side note, a lot of the girls thought i was 23+ years old. i got a 28 years old from one girl. that was pretty cool.

His name is "TierZoo," and what he does is organise and examine animals and animal types within a competitive gaming context, ranking certain animal families the same way you would the Melee character list. For example, his "Optimising the Snake Build":

YouTube

"The Boa constrictor is the only snake build classified as a "tank," utilising a high defense stat and thick, scaley hide. More importantly for a snake than its defense, is its unparalled grab game. A well-specced constrictor build can zero-to-death any player they manage to grab. If we compare the constrictor's grab to other high-level grabs, we can see that it is one of the best available in the game.

"

My favourite so far is the "Spider Tier List" for sure.

YouTube

"Also in 'B Tier,' we've got another spider which uses its web in an interesting way: as a ranged, mobility debuff. The Spitting Spider can launch sticky webs at high speeds. This is particularly useful for dealing with more mobile builds when you don't want to just camp. This move is powerful if your opponent isn't expecting it, but since it has a lot of end lag, if your opponent evades it, they'll get a free punish."

Gaming / What are your problems with Breath of the Wild?
« on: November 03, 2017, 08:29:14 PM »
If you've played, what would you say the game needs to improve upon or could do better in the sequel? What's holding the game back from being flawless, and if you can think of one, what's the best solution to this problem?

I want to make a video addressing some of my issues with the game and would like to hear some more problems I've maybe missed. Here's what I have so far (including potential fixes that I'll address in my video):

-Menu usage (equipment swapping, healing, environmental changes, etc.)
-weapon degradation having no fix
-Climbing in the rain having no fix
-horse controls (they suck, Verb)
-Armour levelling is just busy work and too linear
-collectibles are too plentiful not to have some sort of recording process per area. this includes hinox and talus locations
-amiibo armour acquisition is fucking cancer

Serious / In light of the Protestant Reformation's anniversary...
« on: November 03, 2017, 06:28:22 PM »
...it might be kind of fun to have a discussion on it. Having recently dabbled a little into Christianity's history I've acquired somewhat of a taste for its historical significance, even if I don't really care for the teachings all that much.

Where do you stand on the issue? Do you think Luther had the right idea branching off from the Catholic church following his excommunication, or do you think he should have stuck with the church to minimise the division within the faith?

For me, Luther's heart was in the right place but he set a bad precedent for the religion itself. After 1500 years of consistency and unity, tradition was thrown out the window and it's only snowballed since. Any time a church disagrees on one issue or another they break off to form their own denomination with little consequence. Additionally I think the focus on gracious works the Catholic church has is absolutely necessary to encourage a Christian lifestyle.

Gaming / Breath of the Wild - Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Armour DLC

New Champion Amiibos releasing Nov. 10th, will include new helmets for each Champion:
Quote
With the Champion amiibo coming out on November 10th, learn more about what each helm does in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!
When any of the Divine Helms are equipped with Ancient Cuirass and Ancient Greaves (All armor items need to be upgraded level 2 ★★ or above), you’ll also trigger a set bonus, Ancient Proficiency, which increases the attack power of Ancient or Guardian series weapons. All of them will increase guard from ancient energy attacks, while defense level and required materials for level-up are the same as those of Ancient Helm. Enemies' remaining HP/full HP will also be visible like the Champion's Tunic.

Additionally, there are specific effects for each item:
- Vah Rudania Divine Helm: Flame Guard (Lv1)
- Vah Ruta Divine Helm: Swim Speed Up (Lv1)
- Vah Naboris Divine Helm: Electricity Resistance (Lv1)
- Vah Medoh Divine Helm: Cold Resistance (Lv1)

Vah Rudania Helm:

Vah Ruta Helm:

Vah Naboris Helm:

Vah Medoh Helm:

Medoh and Naboris are the only ones that look cool to me but it's nice to see additional Ancient helmets considering the one in-game looks terrible.

The Flood / Spoiler I know we've had a few threads, but... (Blade Runner 2049)
« on: October 17, 2017, 10:23:33 PM »
...it was just pretty good. It was cheap sex for my eyes and ears. Dialogue ranged from just serviceable to fucking terrible. There was one likeable, well-executed character (Lieutenant Joshi), and the visuals, while orgasmic at times, thematically felt more like something I'd look for in a Boba Fett Star Wars game than a cyberpunk noir follow-up to the original. The use of lighting in some shots is.... oddly stimulating, at least on first viewing. To that affect, this film just feels like "Palpatine Explaining the Tragedy of Darth Plageuis, the Wise to Anaking from Revenge of the Sith: The Movie."

Gosling does his best to bring the protagonist alive but between his "simply okay" acting ability and nothing-to-write-home-about characterisation it's hard to feel anything towards the guy. Jared Leto and Love were both absolutely AWFUL. Leto spouts some pretensious-ass anime bullshit every time he's on screen. As the only two antagonists in the film, it suffers for it. Ford feels like he's mailing it in on this one, even if he is one of the more interesting characters to watch on-screen.

The hologram waifu and sex with a prostitute was an understated weird, but maybe that was the point. I can't see any good reason for a gigantic hologram advertisement to be completely nude though, that's pretty blatantly exploitation.

And maybe I was just confused or can tell where the story is going, but was it obvious to anyone else that Deckard had twins and Gosling is one of them? The first shot of the film is a focus on K's vividly green eyes, and then Deckard mentions that "She [Rachael, romantic partner] had green eyes." The movie establishes that two Replicants had identical DNA despite one being a girl and one being a boy. When K shows the girl the memory she tells him that it's a real memory and starts to cry -- my brother interpretted this to mean that she saw her own memory and got emotional, but she had just established that you're not allowed to get real memories implanted, which means it must be his memory. Then the one-eyed chick throws K's idea about him being the child out the window which, to me, points to them setting up that reveal in the sequel. Maybe I'm just missing something.

I honestly recommend watching it at least once in theatres, but considering it started to drag along near the 2 hour mark, I can't see myself watching this as much as the original, or any of my other favourite movies. I would have liked a little more audio/visual storytelling rather than expository dialogue. The film only puts its feet into that pool instead of taking a nose-dive, which granted is still better than most films today, but it's something that the original did so well it's hard not to feel a little watered-down. As far as sequels to 80's classics, you haven't really got much better than this so far, but I feel as though making a new IP would have allowed the team a little more creative liberties that might have suited the director's vision better.

Serious / What should the activities of European explorers be viewed as?
« on: October 10, 2017, 09:41:57 AM »
Should they be seen as historical achievements or crimes against humanity? On the one hand you have the absolutely monstrous treatment and abuse of the original Americans but on the other hand you have incredible inventions, scifentific discoveries and and the settlement of what would eventually become the United States (which I think should be considered one of the most historically important events -- ever).

Where do you stand?

Gaming / Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy | PS4 Review
« on: September 27, 2017, 04:22:22 PM »
First of all, the game looks worse than its PS3 counterpart. From what I can tell, the PS4 simply took the PS2's game, upscaled it to 1080p and """ran""" it at 60 FPS. That's all well and good in theory but what happens is that you end up comparing this port with the high-definition remaster on the PS3, and that is not a favourable match-up for the PS4. Yeah, it might be able to run it at a higher resolution but the high definition models and textures they used on the remaster and the fact that it runs at a much more stable frame rate elevate the game's visuals far more than a few extra pixels ever could. The PS3 had greater textures and colours while running the game at 720p @ 60FPS, whereas the PS4 struggles to get above 1080p @ 40 FPS while using textures from almost 2 decades ago. Keep in mind, too, that Jak and Daxter: TPL is the """worst""" looking game from the quadrilogy, so it should have been the easiest to make look nice.

Secondly, asking $15 for this half-assed, subpar port of an almost 20 year old game is just a scummy move by Sony to cash-in on their fan's nostalgia and desire for a good platformer. Although I didn't run into any, I've seen many complaints about game-breaking glitches, spontaneous freezing and crashing from several other players, with some issues popping up during mandatory (unskippable) cutscenes that you need to experience to beat the game. Simply put, some people are unable to complete their game due to these glitches.

I have no idea where these issues stem from. My guess would be a mixture of Sony's PS2 emulation software being less-than-stellar and that they rushed out the game to ride the coattails of the new Uncharted's release. It seems that recently Sony has done nothing but shoot themselves in the foot with their first-party ventures.

For someone who absolutely loves these games it would make me sad to see the remaining three games to be released treated with the same casual thoughtlessness this one clearly garnered. It's already a given that they'll most likely look worse thanks to them neglecting the high-definition textures found on last generation's remaster, but given a rock-solid 60 FPS and a good deal of polish to avoid the game-breaking glitches, the remaining entires could almost be worth buying again for fans of these Playstation Classics.

Verdict: 3/10

With one of the most powerful consoles ever released and the potential to craft an extensive first-party library due to their industry history, you'd think Sony would focus on making the first big Playstation 2 rerelease of this generation one of their best rather than settling for what what we got. For a game that's been released 4 times now, this ends up being the second worst way to experience the game. For first-time players, if you don't own a PS3, wait for the price to drop or an inclusion with Playstation Plus.
