I fire in short, controlled bursts, as recommended in the manual, rather than just holding the trigger.
And guess what? It still sucks. Yeah, it's best used at a range where the enemy takes up the entire reticule and just mowing them down, and it also works well for crowd control against the Flood. It'll take like 40 seconds to get a kill at medium ranges against an Elite, so it's generally better to use a Plasma Rifle.

Halo CE's bullet spread is also retarded. You can do individual trigger pulls at the same RoF as holding the trigger down on Auto/Semi Auto weapons, and have each shot be just as accurate as the first.
