The Flood / Had my first car crash as a Driver today.
« on: September 15, 2016, 06:01:29 AM »
It was a pretty big shock tbh. I was driving to get some parts so I could service my car and was headed down a relatively busy street with 2 lanes each direction and a nature strip in the middle. I was slightly behind (like, my front wheel was alongside his rear one) the car next to me and without warning he flashed his indicator once, merged into my lane and braked hard. There was no time to even react and I slammed straight into him and it was a meaty fucking hit. It was only a 60 zone (38 for you Burgers/Bongs) but I think I jarred my shoulder in the impact, and because of how small my car was the left side wheels became airborne for what felt like 5 minutes. Luckily I was launched no further than the turn lane and not into oncoming traffic, and we were both in reasonably good positions to find a place to pull in safely without impeding the traffic behind us.

Fortunately we're both (seemingly) ok, he got out of his car to ask if I was ok and we then had a quick chat that was really laid back given we'd been involved in an accident. We exchanged contact info and went on our way (I called the number first to make sure it was legit, but it was all good). I'd only brought the car a couple of weeks ago too. I'm pretty shaken up, I can't really think straight and I'm contemplating contacting the hospital to make sure I didn't hit my head or something.

Honestly I was expecting the left front wheel to have been bent out of line and the entire front left quarter of the car to have been destroyed because of how solid the hit was and how deeply I gouged his car (mid 00's Corolla). I guess mine is either too old for crumple zones or the Metal/Steel/whatever panels are just so much more durable than plastic/fibreglass because the Wheel seems to still be on straight and there only seems to be superficial damage. The Passenger side door is stuck shut because of the panel interference and a left light housings along with the grill mesh are completely buggered. It doesn't even look remotely severe but I guess AE82 Corollas are built tougher than they look. Still gets around town too but I'll talk to the guy's insurance about where they want me to get the panels looked at, and I'll see if the chassis is bent out of shape too.

It happened a few hours ago and I'm still in shock but I think I'm ok.

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

Gaming / Spoiler Cave Story playthrough thread [Egg Corridor]
« on: August 18, 2016, 10:04:21 AM »

Yo guys, I haven't done one of these before and I kinda liked what I've seen of Pip and Verb's playthroughs. I just started playing this so I figured why not make a thread on it.

First, a little backstory on the game; It's an Indie Platformer from the mid 2000's and is freeware for anybody interested, or you can buy the + version on steam for ~$15. It's on a few platforms including 3DS and Mobile too, but I'm sticking with the PC version. I was led into this game by a Video on YouTube featuring one of the tracks as its main audio and I liked it enough to explore further, so here we are:

YouTube

Now, into the playthrough. So far I've put only 10 minutes into the game and I'm really liking it so far. Movement and combat is simple and intuitive, making up for the lack of ingame instruction that most games like to throw in early on. I'm getting the sense that this is going to be a troll game, as I was blown up by a troll door and reverted back to the start of the game a little way in, presumably as a reminder to save after collecting an item. The platform spacing is reasonably precise, demanding a fair bit of skill to reach some Items. Overall though I'm finding it's easy to navigate, not something I've experienced with other 2D platformers.

There's some story to it so far as well, as there are constant jumps to a cutscene of a guy at a computer asking for somebody named 'Sue' and references to a villain named 'The Doctor,' who has allegedly been kidnapping and killing members of the Village. A couple of his Minions have already kidnapped someone I befriended so I guess they're assholes tbh, but fighting the guy who remained afterwards was a choice and he seemed chill about me declining the fight and went away without any further fuss.

I'll keep updating this thread as I play along.

The Flood / Is there any way to separate my Youtube account from Google?

Guys pls help

A couple of years ago I was forced into the Google+ account registration thingy every time I tried to make a comment on YouTube and I didn't know you could skip it. I made the account and now logging in to YT is annoying and takes 50 times longer than it should. Is there a way to split the accounts?

Govt claims census triumph: ‘we are a proud nation of 4 million people’

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is reeling this morning after its website crashed last night due to an orchestrated attack on its servers.

A spokesperson for the Australian Bureau of Statistics said that the attack seemed to have been orchestrated by a whole nation of people. “We are currently looking for a nation of roughly 24 million people who could have carried out such an attack.”

The spokesperson said it was clearly a foreign nation. “Australia couldn’t possibly have carried out this attack. According to our latest figures, there are only 4 million people living in Australia.”

Tech experts said that they had never seen such a sophisticated and well organised attempt to flood the servers, using millions of different points of attack.

The experts say the attack was highly organised. “In order to get millions of computers to participate at the same time, the perpetrators harnessed social media to encourage people to flood the servers, and overload the website. This was sophisticated stuff.”

“They announced their attack day months ago, and then worked methodically to make sure everyone remembered the attack date.”

“The perpetrators must have known that no computer server can withstand the load of an entire nation trying to access the same website at the same time on the same day.”

Gaming / [Under way] Sep7agon Super Smash Bros. 4 tournament #4
« on: July 06, 2016, 11:14:42 AM »
ayy lmao what's up fams

It's been too long since we've had a Smash tournament. I'll leave signups open until the 23rd (whenever midday is for you eastern Ameriburgers) so plenty of time to join up! If there's enough interest I might run a doubles bracket.

I'll try and dig up the results from the past tournaments so I can do seeding properly, but if I can't I'll just seed randomly.

Rules:

-Double Elimination Bracket, will run with pools if we get enough entrants.

-All items will be banned.

-2 Stocks

-All sets are best of 3.

-Stage and Character counterpicking will be in effect. I suggest keeping in touch with your opponent during the set via PMs or some other chat.

-If you win a match and decide to change character, you must do so before your opponent.

-Dave's stupid rule will be in effect (if a set goes to game 3, you may not counterpick to a stage you have already won on unless your opponent consents to the counterpick.)

Stages:

-All sets are to be started on Smashville for game 1

-Battlefield, Final Destination (any Omega works too), Lylat Cruise, Town & City and Duck Hunt can be used as counterpicks, unless you wish to play on Smashville again.

-Dream Land N64 is allowed if both participants have it.

-Due to Smash 4's Jank stage picking mechanic in 'With Friends,' messaging each other with stage counterpicks is best so you can both vote for said stage.

Bracket
