The Flood / Can someone explain how its possible for a gif to play audio?
« on: October 11, 2014, 09:59:32 PM »
Im not gonna explain that much.

all that needs to be said is that in a bored internet lurking state: links were clicked, and gifs were found...one gif had a certain horror related character playing a song, in a dark corner, staring at someone...and at 11:00pm its terrifying...i didint stick around for a jumpscare i bolted...so...

someone explain how a gif, a moving image with no audio, could play audio. what sorcery is this?

Gif is located here.

http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/846060-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic

EMBER pointed out that some users upload videos embedded in the background or in the description of a image to play when it loads. so someone took the toredor march, placing it on this image and effectivly catching me off guard to the point where i stayed up till 12:30 trying to figure out how a gif played audio...its been a boring saturday...
as for the link? its a long, long story...

well he was a serial killer, when the women were talking to him, he was stone faced, when the dad mentioned god and forgiveness he started crying...i just cant decide if that was genuine or not...

i want to say genuine but...meh....

Yeah, hopefully we'll have our good 'ol swear words back once the ad nonsense is sorted out.

from what i read it started with some...questionable ads and words being said?
No, adsense (which is/was our main ad provider) basically gave the forum a warning because they didn't like the way we talked around here, and threatened to cut off service. They don't like servicing websites that post cursing and sexual content.

i had 2 responses to this post.
1.dont they service youtube as well? because im sure the whole comments section on a religious video would be enough...
2.wait that happens? i thought those ads were just there no matter what...didint know an ad company cared about the content on the site...would it be acceptable to say "*says number eleven*" in place of a swear word? if you get that reference...
Adsense is run by Google I'm pretty sure, and Google is dumd

wait so then why are they...but...*mind shatters* i dont even know anymore...but at least i know about the whole swearing thing now...

now to come up with clever censor alternatives...cant use blam...*dolphin noise* ill never come up with-*gasp* never mind...nailed it.
Let me help.

You won't get banned for swearing. If the filter takes care of it, so be it, but the stuff not covered isn't going to get you in trouble.

If you're not creating a new topic (IE: you're replying or quoting) bypassing the filter isn't a big deal, as guests can't view replies to posts (including adsense bots).

...I think i now under stand the reason behind blocking the replies to guests...thanks BTW...i think i understand the way the forum works a bit more....

Good.

Joking and Airlines are pretty incompatible for a good reason <.<

ayy lmao you're all going to die at 20,000 feet isn't exactly going to keep things calm. Whether it's from screaming allahu ackbar or joking that you have ebola.

Just don't be a fracking idiot.

to be honest that story reminds me of the guy who pulled out an unloaded (i think broken) gun to show it to his friend in public...

..in an airport...

it makes you think "why would they do/say that in public"

There is an automatic word filter put in because of some trouble with our advertising provider (Google)

Yeah shitposting is fine just don't do it any other board besides The Flood.

well alright then. thanks.

Septagon / quick question regarding the rules.

I'm new, read the rules, seem simple enough.

just a quick few questions.
1. the draft i saw before said swearing was fine, but people use frack or frick instead of...well. the f word. is swearing not ok anymore?

2. Where do you stand on shitposting? not allowed anywhere except the flood?

just a few things i was wondering...

Serious / Man makes ebola joke, gets kicked off plane
« on: October 10, 2014, 04:50:58 PM »
I was watching the news and came across a report about a man who was on an airplane from Philadelphia when he sneezed and turned to a passenger and said he had ebola. shortly after the plane landed in punta cana, passengers booed him, and he was escorted to a infirmary at the airport by workers in hazmat suits.
his response in an interview? "man i was just kidding"
(the video was also captured on a cellphone)

what are your thoughts about what the guy said? i think its quite stupid to say that during a outbreak of a deadly disease, and im kind of glad he got escorted off.
