Honorable, I suppose it would be honorable for someone to live a good and altruistic life in spite of the fact. Valuable, I would say it depends on your definition of value. I hold value towards something I own, because it is something I control. I don't hold those same feelings towards something I borrow, and seeing as how our existence is limited, I'd say we live on borrowed time.

Well, should your consciousness continue to exist all of those moments would continue to exist as memories. All of those moments is what makes you as a person, you. Without them, you are nothing. Most of us are people that won't make a huge impact on things, doing actions which will allow for us to obtain some form of historical immortality. Our accomplishments will be something that will only hold a close meaning to us and possibly a few close other people. To use this quote... “I mean, they say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.” To most of us common Joe's, our accomplishments, our existence and impact, hold so little meaning because of how fleeting our existence is. If an afterlife did exist, then at least we can hold on to the very thing that made us the person we are after death.

You won't live for anything. Nothing you accomplish in life will matter. You will be remembered for the blink of an eye after your death and then be forgotten forever. You may as well never have existed to begin with.

Should an afterlife exist, your consciousness will still exist and that allows for your accomplishments to matter, because you can still comprehend them. A important moment in your life continues to have meaning to you because you are still able to recall it. Would you care about your wedding day, your graduation, or another important moment if you could not remember the moment? Your consciousness is the accumulation of all those moments, when it ends, so do all of those moments.

Weed, I do it because it's enjoyable. Cigarettes, people more then likely smoke due to addiction. I personally don't like smoking cigs much, I'll maybe have one in a month possibly, and that's just because I enjoy the action of smoking(insert Freud reference here) and don't have weed at the moment.

True. Anyhow, to answer the OP, it just seems like one of those subjects that there is no right answer to. On the one hand, the fact that this is the one shot you get like Max says means that our existence is a finite resource which should be treasured. On the other hand, due to consciousness being something that is limited and the very fact that your actions do technically mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, you could also say that life is worthless and all actions you do are nothing more than delaying the inevitable. I guess at the end of the day, it's whether you see the glass as half full or half empty.

I suppose I'm lucky that I've never really thought deeply about death. It's too far away from now for me to care much. Was essentially born an atheist so I've never had to "come to terms" with things and accept my way of life any different. Going off of this thread so far, it seems that these thoughts seem to be a more common occurrence among those who fell away from their religious beliefs and became atheists rather than those who were raised atheist. I don't really have a goal with a set purpose in my life. I want to enjoy my life, and to do that I need to do the best I can, in terms of education so I can a job I might actually like and so I can fund myself for entertainment in my free time. That doesn't mean stepping over people, so if I can make people around me happy on my way to the box than that's always a good thing too. It is a good way to live, just to make the most of it while you can, but it just seems to be one that I cannot stop questioning the point as to why I should.
