I'm sitting around killing time alone and depressed like always
what do you have to be depressed about
I can't, and don't really want to talk about it. I wish I could.
okay, sorry for asking, just let me know if you ever want to talk

The Flood / Re: Can Robots Ever Become Life?
« on: May 26, 2016, 06:11:37 PM »
If you make a program that can learn new things, you are already on par with most organic life. If you make a program that can rationalise a decision, you've surpassed all non-sentient life. If you make a robot that can do all that and have laser eyes, we have no need for meatbags anymore.
So why, if it was even possible, do people want this to happen? Create a race of thinking, sentient machines with survival instinct, who can outperform humans physically and intellectually, and set them loose into the world? Might as well just blow up everything.
So that we can wipe out the disgusting plague of organic life and replace it with a nice pure race of machines.

Humans exist solely to create the singularity of self-replicating synthetic life. After that we can either digitise to a higher plane of existence or we must die to make way for a better form of un-life.
If you're just talking about net value, then getting rid of humans via an atomic blast would be more beneficial then replacing them with an identical race that can suffer, feel pain, and all that. It would serve nothing.
Life will always find a way, if we wipe ourselves out it simply resets the evolutionary timer.

We are a stage of evolution, here to ensure the progression to the next life-form. If we just get all edgelord and wipe ourselves out, that's a few million years of evolutionary time wasted.

Human life is pointless enough as it is, without further frittering it away on teenage angst.
Just write off everything I said as "lol so edgy", nice. The truth is that life, especially intelligent life, is inherently bad. We can't do much to stop the self perpetuating cycle, but that doesn't mean we have to contribute to it.

Then you don't know PSU

And you do? Fuck outta here faggot.

Anyone that truly knows me would know that I would do anything for my friends/family/pets.
If sex is an expectation for you, anywhere, at any time, then you treat your wife like shit.

yeah and I'm a bad person,
Only because you make yourself one.
as if there's any other way
So you're saying your nature is inherent? Because that's completely illogical.
what

I agreed with you

you make choices that make you a certain kind of person, you cant be born good or bad

all of my choices have been made out of apathy
Ahh with that wording it looked like you meant, "as if there is any other way than being bad."

So if you're really saying is that you realize it's your own fault that you're a bad person, then why aren't you making a conscious effort to be a better one?
why should I

not like it changes anything

there's no point at all
If it changes nothing for you then you've yet to understand the potential you have to influence the world around you. Truly, if that is what you believe then you are still very ignorant in that regard.

You are a part of this world, a world that is entirely and absolutely interdependent. Every single action you make will effect it and those around you in some way.
yeah no shit I'm ignorant, I'm pretty much the worst

and yeah, even if I could influence the world, there's still no point. I change the world, so what? Nothing's gonna change my world.
Your world is the result of your perception of reality. If you come to understand that the only inherent nature you truly have is just simply 'being' then you come to realize how utterly foolish it is to abide by the thinking that life is a static unchanging state.

All phenomena are impermanent. Everything is constantly changing. Action and reaction proceed ever onward into eternity. Your life, your mindset, none of that is exempt from this process. You can carry notions to the grave to have them dissolve away in death (although, some believe them to even carry over into another life) or you can dissolve them now through conscious effort, practicing mindfulness, and understanding that, ultimately, these notions are meaningless.

Go ahead and hold on tightly to those meaningless subjective notions you have of your life and reality, let's see where they get you. Not any further away from suffering, I'm sure. Maybe a little bit of temporary pleasure here and there, but no closer to peace.
Not everyone is born the same way, and there's far more inherency than just "being". I don't need you to come here and tell me all I have to do is change my perspective, because there are far bigger problems I have than my outlook.
No, not everyone is born exactly the same, however, your humanity is still the result of the interdependence of reality. It does not exist without some sort of conditioning. Your birth was a result of actions your parents took, and thus did your life manifest itself as a result of that. Your body, mind, ego, none of that is some essential inherent phenomena that exists outside of interdependence. Neither are the notions of your life that were conditioned as a result of your upbringing and what influenced you as you developed and matured.

Changing your perspective doesn't magically and instantly change you as a person. To be so adamant in seeing from a certain perspective you have to gain a mastery of that perspective through repetition. Absolutely no one masters anything without practice. It's fairly obvious you've had a lot of practice seeing the world and your life through your seemingly dismal perspective, but that doesn't not mean, in anyway, shape, or from, that practicing seeing through a different perspective is impossible.

Some things in life can't be reversed or ceased. Someone with down syndrome can't reverse their condition, someone who has lost a limb can't grow it back, we can't stop the sky from appearing as blue, or age from deteriorating our bodies.  However, acknowledging that we don't have the power to change everything does not mean it isn't foolish to deny the power we have to change certain things.
And the things we have the power to change aren't always the things that are important to change. Just because someone else values something, doesn't mean everyone does. If you were born with some incurable, terrible condition, would you spend your life trying to change small shit that doesn't matter? Would you try to change your perspective, go get a better job or a diploma? No, because only changing the core problem, the problem that you can't change, will make a difference to you.

It's not a matter of being resolute in my mindset, because if I wanted to, I could become a better person. Give to charities, never do drugs, be active and involved in more social spheres, start putting others before myself. But doing so would do nothing for me, it would bring me no peace or contentment. Doing that in and of itself would just be a distraction, and one that takes far more work than watching TV or smoking weed.
