On one hand, Totally Spies has Alex and happy Jerry

On the other hand, Undercover has more action, more life threatening situations, is grittier and has more adult humor

but Undercover also has existentially bored Jerry and a Replitech Alex (the latter of which is never resolved) so idk

I don't understand how you stand to the side

Spoiler
I also don't understand how I'm still the only hamilton fan here, I don't even watch musicals. It actually reminds me more of an old radio play but with music (in terms of plotting and such). Also, the characterization is so spot on

actual spoiler
  • "Hamilton's pace is relentless, he wastes no time ... He has something to prove, he has nothing to lose." Hamilton is an immigrant idealist who, unlike everyone else in the American political world, had no ties to a respected family or house. He doesn't even care about that though, and pushes forward as if he has that backing, even though all he has is his strong idealism. He likewise doesn't care about power or status, just his legacy and making America great. This is in comparison to Burr, who's late father literally owned Princeton, who's grandfather wrote "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", and who's mother was one of the few women in the time praised for her wit and intelligence. He doesn't care about idealism, he cares about making the spirits of his family proud ("If there's a reason I'm still alive, when so many who loved me have died, I'm willing to wait for it...") and similarly to Hamilton, his legacy. Interestingly, though, while Hamilton cares about his legacy in terms of his acts, Burr cares about them in terms of who he is, his status.
  • And even though in the vast period of British/American history before this, the above conditions would have let Burr dominate Hamilton, this is the one time when being a young idealist with no political ties is more helpful than being from a respected family. Hamilton wears everything on his sleeve, which allows him to make connections and friends, but Burr "keeps [his] plans close to [his] chest", which may be politically savvy, but causes no one to trust him. Hamilton even says this himself when he endorses Jefferson over Burr: "I have never agreed with Jefferson once - we have fought on like seventy-five different fronts...but when all is said and all is done, Jefferson has beliefs - Burr has none."
  • Despite all of this, the similarities between Hamilton and Burr are what make the show. The song above is the best example of this, but there are so many other examples, it would be impossible to list them all. One good example, though: "You're an orphan? Of course! I'm an orphan! God, I wish there was a war where we could prove we're worth more than anyone bargained for" <<< Hamilton in the very first song, actually way overestimating how similar he and Burr are. They're both orphans, sure, but Hamilton makes the mistake in thinking that means they're both disdained/seen as worthless - when really Burr's orphan status doesn't make him an undesirable due to his family. In the sense of their attitudes in the world - idealism vs practicality, activity vs passivity, openness vs savviness, they're opposites. But the best moments are when you see how similar they really are as people.
  • Burr's whole watchword being "wait" (Wait For It, "wait here and see which way the wind will blow", "the Revolution's imminent, what do you stall for?") is tragically resolved with his last active (non-narration) line literally being "WAIT!" as he tries to take away his shot as soon as he shoots it. The one time their roles are switched (Hamilton being passive and throwing away his shot, Burr being active and taking his) is the one time when Burr should have actually waited for it.

I wrote way more than this and had to delete it, I might actually do a better-constructed longer analysis of this show for News

When I play a video game, it's a safe zone from the horrors of life and the suffering I have to see every day. Even if a video game is too hard and I die a lot, I take comfort knowing that I am in control.

That was until I played this fucked up game. The ONE fucking place where I can actually have some security and agency, gone. You all know what I'm talking about, the fact that I can't STOP the game and say 'no, you're just a game'. Whoever designed the fucked up no pause feature had to know that people would react this way, and yet he coded it in anyway. This is pure violation - I can't trust another game again.

Dale Cooper: [ talking into tape recorder ] Diane, 11:31 pm. Just finished washing up and ready for bed. This morning, I showered for nine minutes. Found seventeen hairs; three curly, fourteen straight. I used the Basalm shampoo along with the conditioner courtesy of the hotel and delivering what it promised. A silky manageability. Cotton towel by Field Crest with just the right amount of absorbancy. Consumed fifteen doughnuts today, Diane. All jelly. I'll be injecting my insulin in four minutes. Diane, slept great last night. Got to find out what kind of sheets these are; not cotton, not rayon, silky. Damn fine sheets. I'm gonna get naked and slide around in them.

[ front door opens, as Sheriff Truman enters ]

Sheriff Truman: Cooper, great news. We found out who killed Laura Palmer. It was Leo. He just confessed.

Dale Cooper: Harry, I'm glad you're here. Tonight we're going to go up to One-Eyed Jacks disguised as indians. Hawk said we could borrow his buckskins - you know, the one with the eagle feather.

Sheriff Truman: Cooper, listen. Leo confessed. Leo turned himself in.

Dale Cooper: Well, that's good news, Harry. Another piece of the puzzle. It won't be long now.

Sheriff Truman: No, no, no, no. Leo confessed. He really did, honest. It's over. We found the murder weapon in the truck. His fingerprints match. We even have a video tape of it. [ pulls videotape out of his pocket ]

Dale Cooper: Harry, in the FBI we're trained in one very important thing - to look beyond the obvious. Now, this video tape is helpful, but last night I had a dream. In that dream I saw a hairless mouse with a pitchfork singing a song about caves. I surmised these are the same caves at the Packard Saw Mill. Harry, tonight you and I are going to do a little spelunking.

[ the front door bursts open, as a handcuffed Leo enters with Deputy Andy Brennan ]

Leo: I guess you heard. I did it. I'm ready to do my time. Get me a beer!

Dale Cooper: Harry, this certainly puts him high on the list of suspects.

Quote
Audrey Horne: [ enters the room and leans against the wall ] Agent Cooper.

Dale Cooper: Audrey, did you dig up any new leads at the perfume counter?

Audrey Horne: I quit that job as soon as I found that Leo did it.

Leo: That's right! I'm the one.

Dale Cooper: [ scolding ] I'm talking to Audrey.

Leo: [ reaches in his pants pocket ] I've got pictures, see. [ pulls out his wallet and displays the pictures ] Here's me about to kill her. Here's me killing her. Here's me wrapping her in plastic.

Audrey Horne: [ squeezing between Cooper & Leo ] I just wanted to say goodbye, Agent Cooper. I want you to take this with you. [ hands him a gift ] I just have to finish wrapping it. [ shoves a 5-inch long, red ribbon in her mouth and slowly gobbles it up. Her tongue squirms around in her mouth, then she sticks her tongue out to reveal a tied red bow, which she places on Cooper's gift. ]

Dale Cooper: Thank you Audrey. [ Audrey exits the room ] Harry, tonight we'll stake out the graveyard disguised as alter boys.

Sheriff Truman: No, no. No, we won't, Cooper, and I'll tell you why - because the crime has been solved already. Leo confessed.

Dale Cooper: Okay, we'll go to One-Eyed Jacks disguised as Eskimo seal hunters.

Sheriff Truman: No, Cooper.

Dale Cooper: How about Vegas?

Sheriff Truman: No.

Dale Cooper: It's fun.

Sheriff Truman: Come off it, Cooper.

Dale Cooper: Harry, I've got it. [ picks up a rock from the table. ] I'll throw this rock at the window. If it breaks, Leo is innocent. [ throws the rock at the window, breaking it. ]

Dale Cooper: Leo, you're free to go.

Sheriff Truman: Look, Cooper - I know you have interesting methods, and I don't blame you for loving your work. But seeing that this crime is solved already, I'd like to move on to an unsolved crime.

Leo: Look! I did it! You think those notes I sent you were a joke?!

Dale Cooper: What notes?

Leo: Those notes right there. [ points to some notes on the table ]

Sheriff Truman: [ picks up the notes and reads them ] "Dear Agent Cooper. I killed Laura Palmer. Signed Leo Johnson." [ reads next note, as Cooper looks on ] "Dear Agent Cooper. Wondering if you got my first note, re: my killing of Laura Palmer. Signed Leo Johnson." [ reads next note ] "Dear Agent Cooper. Why no response about me killing Laura Palmer? Are you still on the case? If not, please forward to proper authorities. Yours truly, Leo 'the murderer of Laura Palmer' Johnson."

The Flood / Once upon a time...

TAG: Sitcom...there was a place of great goodness called the White Lodge. Gentle fawns gamboled there amidst happy, laughing spirits. The sounds of innocence and joy filled the air. And when it rained, it rained sweet nectar that infused one's heart with a desire to live life in truth and beauty. Generally speaking, a ghastly place, reeking of virtue's sour smell. Engorged with the whispered prayers of kneeling mothers, mewling newborns, and fools, young and old, compelled to do good without reason. But I'm happy to point out that our story does not end in this wretched place of saccarhine excess. For there is another place, its opposite. A place of almost unimaginable power, chock full of dark forces and vicious secrets. No prayers dare enter this frightful maw, for spirits there care not for good deeds or priestly invocations. They are likely to rip the flesh from your bones then greet you with a happy "good day". And if harnessed, these spirits, in this hidden land of unmuffled screams and broken hearts, will offer up a power so vast that its bearer might reorder the earth itself to his liking. Now, this place I speak of is known as the Black Lodge - and I intend to find it.
