He dodged the question of implementing DRM into mods that would make it so you could only use steam workshop mods with games that support modding.
Oh boy here we go. 6873

The biggest problem that nobody is addressing is that this will kill the modding community for future games. When Fallout 4 or TES 6 come out nobody will be sharing their findings with the mod tools because knowing something that nobody else knows will give you an advantage on the market.
Collab projects are essentially dead and nobody will be able to use anyone else's content due to the fact that they'd be profiting off of work that isn't theirs. Which basically dooms us to a future of shitty reskins and terrible weapon and armor mods. 6880

Actually if sold at a reasonable price that's not a bad idea and it's something I've talked about occasionally. Say a $20-$40 split. That way people who only want part of the game don't have to pay a full $60 for a chunk of the game they don't want. 6886
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 09:50:38 PM »
What's funny as hell is that W&C along with the fishing mod rely on SKSE and FNIS.
The authors of which did not give people permission to monetize their work. Valve didn't even think this through. They just saw dollar signs and decided that the short term cash was worth the price of destroying the modding community. Not only is this causing infighting amongst the community but now that mods are getting monetized you can expect that the companies who previously turned a blind eye to this legal gray area to start filing DMCA's to protect themselves from having derivatives of their works sold without their permission. 6887
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 04:44:26 PM »How is this not a legal nightmare? <.< That doesn't stop the fact that a shit ton of mods use assets from other mods and there are mods being sold right now that require SKSE. If the SKSE team wanted to they could get all of those mods pulled and basically kill Valves entire platform since most of the best mods rely on it. However even if the SKSE team did make a claim it's not like valve would give a fuck. Greenlight is filled with blatant copies and ripoffs of other games. 6888
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 04:00:04 PM »Only it isn't because it's true. I currently have over 123 mods downloaded/installed and every single one of them comes with a readme and information on their mod pages regarding incompatibilities and requirements. And it is your fault if you have incompatibilities since everything that's decent will have that information listed in either its readme or description page. You're talking about how Nexus has a bunch of mods that are incompatible with eachother as if its some sort of negative. That should be expected since thats kind of the nature of modding. If two different mods affect the same thing then you're going have them conflict. And you aren't being refunded. Valve is keeping your money. 6889
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 03:46:46 PM »Nexus releases fuckloads of broken mods. I really dig the 24 hour trial period for the mods, especially given the track record for mod creators to release broken or incompatible mods and just ignore it from there. Nexus doesn't release anything other than their mod manager which is superior to workshops system in every way. People upload their stuff and people can download it. There's no curating process. Compatibility issues are always either in the readme or description of any mod that's decent. It's your fault if something doesn't work because you didn't read the readme or description. If said mod doesn't have either then its your fault for not using common sense and not downloading it. And then there's also the fact that you know, it's free and not being sold to you. You also still have to pay for the mod. You just have 24 hours to get a refund that will take Valve 2-3 days to give you in the form of Steam dollars. So you don't actually get your money back. If a mod you paid for fucks up your game you basically don't get any compensation for it. 6890
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 03:30:31 PM »http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/about/?appid=72850 It's in the earning money section. Most mods come with some sort of readme or description on their page that tells you how to access it. At least on the Nexus. Steam workshop is a piece of shit so I don't use it. There's also the fact that those mods are free. When you're selling a product you should make sure it's at least working properly before putting it on the market. 6891
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 03:13:14 PM »they should have just added an option to donate, this is a shitty move. But then Valve can't make all them sheckles off this modding thing all the kids are talking about these days. 6892
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 03:09:08 PM »Weird, several press releases I read stated that neither Valve nor the developer will act as a middleman to the payments and that content creators get the fees. Care to link to them? Because they're lying through their teeth then. Valve clearly states that modders only get 25% on their information page. Quote
Those Skyrim mods they're advertising look professional. You've never seen a professional mod if you think having to spawn it into the game via console is anywhere near professional. 6893
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 02:57:34 PM »they're only getting 25% and that money is apparently being given to them in Steam dollars. Basically Valve is making 100% of the profit since they never actually have to pay anyone for their work. ![]() lolwut Also there's nothing professional about this. ![]() You have to use the fucking console to spawn his item into the game. You have to use the fucking console. It's not even a complete mod that you're paying for. This is Early Access for mods. 6894
Gaming / Re: Steam has paid mods now« on: April 23, 2015, 02:44:32 PM »I actually really like the idea. Modding can often require a lot of effort and it's cool to see developers recognizing this by allowing content creators to be rewarded for their time. Greenlight and Early Access show that what's going to happen is that a bunch of shitty low effort mods are going to be flooding the market and charging out the ass for things that either don't or barely work. Why? Because you don't actually have to put any effort in what you're doing to get valvedrones to buy your shit since they lack the capacity to think critically. Then you add in the fact that they aren't even really being paid for their work since they're only getting 25% and that money is apparently being given to them in Steam dollars. Basically Valve is making 100% of the profit. 6895
