Serious / Do you prefer Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens
« on: October 01, 2014, 01:49:24 PM »
Definitely Hitchens.  He seemed to have a better understanding of what he is talking about.  Constantly debating while he promoted his books made him more well versed in what he was talking about.

I don't see them as any different than other swear words.  People call their friends fuck faces or bitch ass homeboys and it's fun banter but if you are in an argument with someone it's taken as an insult, which it's supposed to be insulting.  I don't think any race has owner ship of a word.

Is google fiber even a thing in more than one city yet?
Yes, also more providers are now offering gigibit internet to compete.  It's still unlikely anyone on this board has it though.

My ISP doubled my internet speed
What is it now?

Halo.

I'm actually trading Destiny in.  I don't want to support this shit and it's pretty boring grinding for everything.  I'd rather just play straight up play and be at an even playing field.  They seem to cut a bunch of stuff just to sell it too us later which I don't really support either.
Hey you're here!

I am!  Offtopic has been taking a dip in quality the past week and #gaming has been ruined by the recent influx of destiny posts.

Try selling Destiny.
I did yesterday :)

Don't do it.  You'd be supporting their shitty practices.  Even if you buy it used, they would still have their daily population counter.  343 seen what happened to Halo 4's counter and changed their ways so having Destiny's pop drop off would influence them to make better product next time.

I don't think pledging to your country or god has anything to do with the education process and shouldn't be included at all.

Is it right for these people to get so angry?

Yep.

Why do you care what some teacher said that has no effect on you?

Seriously, you really need to consider killing yourself. How many people legitimately love you right now? Your parents don't count. I don't think you have much to look forward to in life.

I cut it myself alternating between 2-4 weeks.  The only problem is I don't have the cape and just cut my hair shirtless and little hairs get all over my neck and shoulders...

But maybe that child's death finally broke the mother's hardened heart?
Or caused the father to see that life isn't worth wasting?

That's actually pretty messed up a loving and just god would kill someone's kid to give them a message.  I find it quite immoral actually.

Would it be illegal to slap the woman after she slapped you? Holy shit I bet it would.

I think the bigger problem in that situation is the mob mentality.  Hitting a woman even if she attacks you first in a lot of places will not go well.  As you seen with him wrestling the old guy who hit him first I feel if a bunch of people seen him smack the woman he would of got jumped and beat pretty bad.

And, name me a moral act which can be committed by a believer which can't be committed by a non-believer (prayer doesn't count).
This intrigues me the most.

Have you heard of Christopher Hitchens?
Is he the author of the challenge? He's my source for it, but I didn't want to mention it just in case he got it from somewhere else I'm not aware of.

In a video I thought I heard him say it was his challenge, but there were so many videos on morality I just googled it.

The third to last paragraph he says it's his challenge http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/13/AR2007071301461.html

Serious / Re: Should women in the US have to sign up for the draft?
« on: September 27, 2014, 02:08:19 AM »
No.

I don't give a shit about this whiny 'but men have to' garbage. Or some sjw vs fedora internet fight. When it comes to war you don't fuck around. If you're calling a draft that means shit has gone bad, and men are just better equipped, mentally and physically, for being pulled off the street and going and killing other men.

Think about the people you know. Male and female. Now imagine you're wounded in a fight. Who do you want carrying your ass out of there?

You're not friends with any girls who could kick your ass?
Nope. I've no doubt they exist but we're talking ratios here. How many random men could kill you vs how many random women.

You really think an army of random civilian women is going to be effective vs something that killed all your professional soldiers?

You seem to be under the impression they will not get any training what so ever.  In hand to hand combat a woman with equal training is just as dangerous as a man.  The problem comes when they have to lug around lots of gear and be under lots of stress for extended periods of time leading to spine/joint problems and infertility.

Too many occurrences have happened to the point where I simply cannot deny it. Not just that, but also all the people that temporarily die and are brought back to life. Why do they all talk about how they visited God and heaven while they were dead? I get that people make up stories, but there's so many stories like this coupled with the fact that even atheists wake back up as born again Christians. It's overwhelming evidence to me, and if you deny it you are simply in denial.

Because peoples minds can play tricks on them.  They have the thought of light engrained in their minds meaning visiting heaven so when it happens they take that as it must mean heaven exists.  Like how when watching scary movies at night some people swear they see monsters in the shadows.  They're psyche is just getting the best of them.  Do you believe in little green martians superior to humans as well?  There are lots of stories of people experiencing other worldly abductions.  That would raise the question of if humans are made in god's image how can these creatures be superior to us in intellect and other traits.

I believe in Yahweh.
Why? I've got a big scar on my back. Lucky to be born, lucky to be alive.

Long story short: I wanted to know who this "God" I learned about at church was.
I wanted more than just reading the bible, I wanted God to be as real to me as He was to Moses, Abraham, Paul etc. I wanted to personally encounter Christ.

I got what I yearned for. And I'm now a Christian before anything else.
I nearly died at birth.

DOCTORS saved me by performing surgery. Not god. Please don't thank some imaginary being if doctors saved your life by performing surgery on you too.
Doctors saved you, but they didn't save me.

I had a 50/50 chance and there was nothing they could do.

That's just it.  You recovered from a condition that is possible to recover from.  Their is nothing supernatural about that.  If you know you grew back a limb or regenerated from an explosion or something I could see but you just happened to survive a situation where survival was a possible outcome.  That's like guessing heads in a coin toss and being right and believing you're psychic.

If I were him, I'd be embarrassed about being taken down my an old man.

The guy slapped him in his face and pulled his hair and looks like he weighs 50+ lbs more than him and pushed him in a narrow space.  Not really an accomplishment.
