News / The Heroic Legend of Arslan OAV Review
« on: January 07, 2015, 06:00:22 AM »

The gallant prince of Pars is looking concerned at the field of battle filled with a heavy mist as the scene changes to the King’s tent where one the Kingdom’s bravest warriors is demoted of his rank and branded as a coward. Shortly after, two armies clash as and a bloody battle entails.

Based on a Japanese fantasy novel series of the same name, the author Yoshiki Tanaka begun writing the story as early as 1986 that is still ongoing. The story elements are based on Persian history, where many references to names are from the epic of Amir Arsalan.

Different studios lead the different OAVs where Animate Film made the first OAV is also known for Cat Shit, and where the second OAV was headed by the studio Aubec; which is known for Secret Garden: The Animation. Where the studios Animate and J.C. Staff made the following episodes up to the fifth, and final one that at the time was based on the latest novel released.

The story mainly follows the group of Prince Arslan and their exploits during a time of crisis in the kingdom of Pars. Where enemies from all sides attempt to invade, and further intrigue takes place.

The story itself has some mythology of its own and elements of mystery, and despite that each episode is made by different studios it has a certain consistency in the art style which is the average one for the early 90’s fantasy anime, and characters who are quite loyal to the story; the core issue lies, however on the amount of cut parts from the novels.

Fitting everything in something that is supposed to last an hour at best somewhat forces certain things to be cut, and short time skips between the episodes that are not fully explained. Furthering that someone may need to actually read the novel to purely understand the ongoing story and this highly damages the OAV; it doesn’t manage to handle the very story it is tasked with at the fullest extent.

The soundtrack befits the OAVs, and it is dark, mysterious and also gives a support to each film. Where men with swords clash, and intrigues are explained, the music plays at the right time, and in battles it also restraints itself to let the sound of flesh, arrows and metal clash take place. The feeling of certain tracks feels like a far echo to the much later Diablo game soundtracks as they use similar techniques, and rhythms to give a similar feeling on what is shown.

What the viewer leaves with after following the OAV’s is thirst; a thirst that might be quenched in the near future as an anime is on the works. As the story of The Heroic Legend of Arslan is a rich one, and sadly, the OAVs never truly used to the most.

The Flood / Grappler Baki review
« on: January 06, 2015, 09:10:39 AM »

If the sound of fists hitting bodies, kicks, fighting in general and some side of humor is part of your ideal entertainment and you happen to like anime then Grappler Baki is a story that you will more than likely find enjoyable.

Baki is somewhat a deserted child; his father is the strongest man in the world. No. Literally, the man can kill a polar bear with his bare hands. Baki's only ambition is to be accepted from his father, meanwhile his overdramatized mother which doesn't really love him, instead is trapped in a one-sided love with the neglectful father and husband.

The story develops around Baki; he dreams to become strong. Stronger than his father. As he will be challenged to fight him for his life at some point. So he trains harshly for years until he finds that conventional methods are not something that will get him to where he needs to be to actually fight against his father.

At the early anime the story is more silly; there's even a monster that knows martial arts and most of the characters revolve around some sort of stereotype and exaggerated personality. Yet towards the end the story slowly switches tone and allows the second season to kick in.

During the second season a more mature, and a less silly Baki fights martial artists of different kinds. The techniques are loyal to real life ones, and the viewer gets to enjoy fights that would actually never take place in legitimate tournaments; indeed, in the second season all the fights take place in an underground tournament which declares the legitimate strongest man in the world.

It's not the greatest anime about fights out there; but it is one that follows its story, and to an extent understands its own setting without going out of its bounds to become something more in a negative or positive way. What the viewer at the end gets is a story about a neglected kid who strives to become the strongest man in the world, and ends up losing everything but the strive to fight to achieve that goal.

The Flood / Something for The Flood...
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:13:37 PM »
During the development of Sep7agon V2 I was somewhat challenged to recreate the banner of The Flood. However, it couldn't be used due to some legal reasons. Instead of keeping it for myself, I think The Flood deserves to have it for whatever it may do with it, and especially since it's something relevant to B.old.

Septagon / Report Sep7agon V2 Bugs or Issues here
« on: January 04, 2015, 04:07:58 PM »
Use this thread to report on any issues, or bugs you may run into while browsing the site. Please, do keep in mind the following things before writing a post (they are crucial to allow me to quickly get into fixing things rather than wait a response about the things I do need to know)

What you need to report an issue
  • A clear screenshot that is not cropped inside spoiler tags
  • State your browser's name, and version (Usually can be found in your browser's about option, otherwise do check your browser's documentation)
  • Your operating system's name and version (Every operating system has subtle differences in rendering, so it's important to know that)

News / Sep7agon V2 Launch!
« on: January 04, 2015, 03:35:07 PM »
Hello everyone!

Somewhat belatedly, but Sep7agon V2 is about to launch! At 5 PM EST the website will change into its new and improved version. The design was developed in mind to both be loyal with the style taken from Bungie.net, and the current one on Sep7agon, and at the same time avoid some mistakes that were made with Bungie's latest update.

Some issues may exist that weren't found during testing; you can report any issues in the specific thread in the Septagon forum and they will be tackled onto as soon as possible. Meanwhile, for any suggestions you are more than welcome to post them in the Septagon forum.

Now, as for what's in hold for the future... Big things are at work, and needless to say, besides nailing out issues and further fine tuning the forums there's plenty of work to do. Additionally, for a final note, I would like to thank all members who took their time and commented in the initial design steps. It makes me happy that those exchange of ideas allowed more transparency in the direction the project would take.

The Flood / Update on Sep7agon V2
« on: December 31, 2014, 03:57:18 PM »
With great excitement, albeit somewhat overdue I am more than happy to announce that Sep7agon’s next implementation is in its final phase of development. What this means that January 1st, 2015 our new version of the software will be tested in a closed environment by the whole staff to nail out any remaining issues that have not been found during the earlier phases.

First, I would like to thank Cheat for the opportunity to work on Sep7agon, because I think there are a lot of possibilities for the community to grow, expand and tackle onto new paths.

Secondly, the staff team, contributors and members of Sep7agon; without them the drive to actually make Sep7agon v2 happen, and any of the future features, fixes and versions wouldn’t be as exciting.

Finally, I thank the patience that the community has shown, and Cheat himself, and I wish the actual deadlines were kept as they were, but troublesome winds turned things awry for some things in my life for the wholeness of an entire month, and one of the things that was slowed down was Sep7agon v2.

Soon enough, it’ll be 2015 in Greece. I wish you all a happy new year, and soon enough, Sep7agon will get a new appearance to properly suit the new year, and new possibilities for our community.

Happy new year, happy 2015
Sincerely,
Isara

The Flood / You died...
« on: December 28, 2014, 10:28:11 AM »
Suddenly you find yourself in a sunken cell with some water in it. The place looks abandoned while some light comes from the bars at the top. Briefly moving your hands and you can easily notice that your skin is all hollowed out as your former body is now in an undead form.

From the light, you see a small cache. There is written a note that explains that you may take a sole item from the chest, and not the chest itself. One of the items is a gift to you from the gods. Which item do you choose?

  • Amulet of the Goddess of Luck
  • Iron Sword blessed by the God of War
  • Entelwen, the staff blessed by the Goddess of Wisdom
  • Holy Water, by the God of Fertility

The Flood / Anime Recommendation Thread
« on: December 21, 2014, 10:20:58 AM »
Since we all probably watch different anime, I think it's called that we share the ones we like the most! Those who spoke with me before probably know this suggestion, but I would suggest any hardcore sci-fi fan to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

It features the war between a galactic empire and a free republic. The details about the main characters go on, and on, introducing many secondary characters who share their own thoughts and views with others. It touches many subjects, and it is based on a novel. Featuring many things from more hardcore sci-fi, such as big battles, politics, religion, and all the wonders of space playing into a mix. Of course, with plenty of classical music to go with each occasion; making it quite enjoyable.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Note: Any derail attempts will be outright deleted.

The Flood / Sep7agon and content creation
« on: December 19, 2014, 10:25:40 PM »
That's the way things are, and I think they might get worse. There are talented people here on Sep7agon, but generally we are hitting a low on content that is worth someone's time. Besides some people who manage to do some work, what Sep7agon actually can offer isn't there.

I decided to make this thread on The Flood for two reasons. First of all, anyone who is willing to create content for Sep7agon of any kind, primarily game reviews or work with Sep7agon Gaming should consider contacting me or AngryBrute. Film, anime, series reviews are also welcome and I am willing to discuss different possibilities and the formation of a new member group for content creators. Secondly, I want to hear different opinions and hopefully discuss on the situation.

Please don't use this thread to call out on anyone for anything; I just want to encourage some further activity, and discussion to welcome new members, or to at least hopefully establish some further foundation.

Septagon / Sep7agon V2: Project Thread
« on: December 01, 2014, 04:21:25 AM »

Release date: 25th December, 2014

About Sep7agon v2

Sep7agon's next version is currently being developed. The philosophy of Sep7agon's administration is to come up with the new forum software version whilst keeping an open and transparent level of communication with the community as a whole.

In the new version, community driven content takes a shift into the main page. The Sep7agon Youtube channel, article writers and the forum chatter become the main showcase of our community. Meanwhile, the profile pages, slowly reworked with additional features, and designs.

As the progress during the moth of November has been slow, nonetheless the release date is still on time as originally planned.

How can I contribute?

Anyone in the community can contribute with the development of Sep7agon v2 by providing feedback, and suggestions in this thread. The communication between the admins, and the members is open, and you are more than encouraged to participate.

What will happen is that regularly some design elements, and features will be showcased, and that's where feedback is most important. All the previous features mentioned in the old thread have been noted into the work, and more will be shown soon.
