This is just a snippit of one of the Armored Kill maps.  Couldn't really find any overhead shots that'd put it in perspective.  They're massive maps, but the problem is most of it is just open fields with no cover.  The map pack was really designed for non-infantry, because the only cover are some houses here and there, which get knocked down in 2 seconds.  Meanwhile, the massive maps in the Bad Company games supported vehicles AND infantry, using designated paths, cover, varied terrain, visual cover (bushes, etc...), etc...

You didn't miss out on much with BF3's DLC.  Endgame was pretty decent, and Close Quarters was like a fun clusterfuck mode, but other than that, the maps were pretty forgettable.  BF4's DLC maps are much better.

I liked Bad Company's big maps, but I thought BF3's Armored Kill ones were overkill, because they were mostly massive open planes.  I'd love to see Oasis, Port Valdez, Harvest Day, or Laguna Presa.

The only smaller maps I liked were Seine Crossing, Grand Bazaar, and Wake Island.

« on: January 22, 2015, 01:11:23 PM »
I don't see why people are having a fuss.  It's far more effective, and quite a few games do it.  The most recent I can think of is Battlefield 4 CTE, where I get to play patches the second they're developed, and often times get in servers with DICE LA employees asking everyone what they think.

It's better this than have 343 scramble around getting feedback once the patch is finalized.

Flare and Radar Jammer jumps, bruh.

Also, the trip mine was the shit in the beta.  They nerfed it to uselessness.

I found Reach and H4 to be near unplayable with 4 player split screen.  Literally everything that isn't 3 ft away from you becomes a huge blur.

Considering BL2 was $8 in the Steam summer sale not even a year after it was out, I'm guessing the Pre Sequel will be like $5 by next summer, maybe even by the spring sale.  I'd rather just wait for that to happen, plus people can pick up BL2 Collectors for $10 at almost any sale they have.

Gonna take a guess and say they were 1: testing the limitations of their matchmaking system and 2: planning something big for BTB.
I remember when I used to think that Betas were just for something while the devs were planning massive, amazing, elaborate gameplay things. Ah, unrealistic optimism.
I don't think massive or elaborate, but a new BTB gametype isn't far out of the question, since the beta had a bunch of new modes.
It's probably more their balls tier matchmaking system.  It can barely put 8 people together, let alone 16.  It'd probably be better if they didn't chase off everyone ever.

Sorry, I should rephrase that: waving off every PC strength that doesn't appeal to you specifically is just being ignorant and trying too hard to hate anything that could give PC elitists an edge, which you know you do.

I think giving achievements to apps is a neat concept (since it doesn't hurt anyone, and I could give two shits about GS anyways), but I don't know why someone would want to brag about how they achieved watching like 32 hours of Netflix in one sitting.

Gaming / Re: Yeah, Uncharted 4 is gonna be 30fps

i know that's because there aren't any, but

-Well Star Citizen made $2,134,374 off just its Kickstarter, and probably much more from their website donations after the Kickstarter donation period ended.  I'm sure plenty of people consider that "worth playing"
-Starcraft
-Civilization
-League of Legends and DOTA.  I'd say LoL is probably "worth playing" if 27 million people play it per day
-MMOs like WoW, Runescape, Tera, Archage, etc...
-Kerbal Space Program
-Insurgency

A lot of multiplatform games also have much more content on PC
-Battlefield 3 could support twice as many players, which also allowed maps to have larger versions
-Payday 2 has tons of free DLC on PC that doesn't even exist on consoles.
-Minecraft has bigger and better worlds with more content + the most recent updates, and you don't have to pay out the ass to customize your character or install a texture pack, because they're basic files you can DL from the internet or make yourself.
-CS:GO is a joke on anywhere that isn't PC

And lets not forget that you can play multiplatform games like Assassins Creed Unity and not have to be stuck dealing with the game dropping to 10 FPS.

Finally, if you're going to go on rants that belittle anyone who is paying way too much attention to anything graphically related, and how you really don't care, then it'd be pretty hypocritical of you to ignore the PC indie market, where the most common deterrent is the art team, but there's fucktons of creativity that doesn't have to be funneled through bullshit publisher policies.

PC definitely has a lack of some gems, like Halo, Uncharted, Infamous, Last of Us, etc... and that's exactly why I own and enjoy my Xbone and PS4, but to wave off every strength that a PC has because it doesn't appeal to you specifically is just being an ignorant little fanboy.

I think it's all neat and all, I just wish they added a transparency slider.
For the tiles?  While I was demoing it, they asked in a survey "would it be nice to have a slider for transparency?"  I'm sure that'll be in.
