Wealth will be redistributed
Universal Basic Income is a meme. In this scenario it's like trying to put a band-aid on a massive, gaping wound, and then letting it fester. Sure, UBI will postpone the problem for maybe 10 years at most until the economy inevitably comes crashing down ten times harder than it did before because now nobody has jobs, the government is flat broke, and all the rich people have long since fled the country because they saw this shitstorm coming from a mile away. At which point the country is either going to go full Reich and try to offset the national debt by niggering resources from smaller countries, or it will face complete societal collapse and descend into Somalia levels of violence and anarchy.

Serious / California lawmakers want to repeal HIV criminalization laws
« on: March 15, 2017, 08:27:12 PM »
Quote
Exposing a person to HIV is treated more seriously under California law than infecting someone with any other communicable disease, a policy some lawmakers say is a relic of the decades-old AIDS scare that unfairly punishes HIV-positive people based on outdated science.

Several lawmakers are promoting a bill by state Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, that would make it a misdemeanor instead of a felony to intentionally expose someone to HIV, the virus that causes the immune system-weakening disease AIDS. The change would treat HIV like other communicable diseases under California law.
Under current law, if a person who knows they are infected with HIV has unprotected sex without telling their partner they have the virus, they can be convicted of a felony and face years of jail time. Intentional transmission of any other communicable disease, even a potentially deadly condition like hepatitis, is a misdemeanor.

"These laws were passed at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic when there was enormous fear and ignorance and misinformation around HIV," Wiener said. "It's time for California to lead and to repeal these laws to send a clear signal that we are going to take a science-based approach to HIV not a fear-based approach."

Wiener's bill, SB239, would also repeal California laws that require people convicted of prostitution for the first time to be tested for AIDS and that increase penalties for prostitution if the sex worker tested positive for AIDS in connection with a previous conviction.

The original laws were passed during the 1980s and 1990s based on incomplete and outdated science, said Dr. Edward Machtinger, director of the Women's HIV Program at the University of California, San Francisco. Transmission rates are much lower than people believed when the laws were enacted. Modern treatment dramatically reduces the effects of the virus and chances for transmission, he said.
Although modern treatments are highly effective, the current laws deter people from getting tested for HIV and seeking treatment, Wiener said.

Between 1988 and 2014, at least 800 people were arrested, charged or otherwise came into contact with the criminal justice system related to their HIV status, according to a study conducted at the University of California, Los Angeles. The study found "HIV criminalization" laws disproportionately affected women and people of color.

Not sure what you were getting at in the end about this leading to fascism tbh.
Mainly drawing parallels to the fall of the Roman Republic: Massive influx of slave labor from the Punic Wars caused the patricians to get richer and richer while the plebs are stuck unemployed and poor as dirt. This caused the plebs to get pissed off and increasingly turn to populist dictators such as the Gracchi brothers and eventually Caesar. We're already seeing the seeds of populism be sewn today with Brexit, Trump, Duterte, Wilders, Le Pen, etc. I can only imagine how bad things are going to get when we go into a full on labor crisis like the Roman Republic did, since history repeats itself and all that. I mean hell, you could even say we're going through a mini crisis right now with all our jobs being shipped off to third world countries and whatnot.

Serious / Let's talk about robots.
« on: March 13, 2017, 07:48:47 PM »
So how does one go about preventing the imminent labor crisis where everyone's job is taken by robots? Because let's face it: Within 30 years we're going to be in a Roman Republic scenario where the rich get richer from robotic slave labor and the common man is going to be broke and unemployed. Since history is doomed to repeat itself, when the shit hits the fan, I genuinely don't think even the most seasoned of Western democracies will survive this. It broke the back of the Roman Republic, and we're already seeing populism begin to take root across the Western world. It's only a matter of time before the "American Republic" becomes the "American Empire." As to what that would translate to in modern times: For the US, it will probably be a Pinochet styled NATCAP military junta. For Europe, it will be full on Fascism, due to the refugee crisis and what not. As a Libertarian, the future looks very bleak to me. Unless we can prevent the robotic labor crisis from occurring, things are going to get very, very ugly, very, very quickly.

Sorry for the ramble. This is a topic that has me genuinely concerned.

Somewhat related red pill: Google is playing both sides of the culture war like a fucking fiddle. They'll go and make purposefully half-assed attempts at censorship and shit on sites like InfoWars to get that dank globalist money while at the same time silently propping up alt media figureheads on YouTube like Sargon and supporting up and coming political Youtubers like Styx. They want to milk the legacy media dry while silently moving everybody to their platform and laughing all the way to the bank.

I find this both scary on the part of our government and stupid how smart cars don't have a feature that gives the driver behind the wheel more control over what the computer says.

At least they allow conservatives to exist. After all, we could be a dystopian shithole like fucking Reddit where political discussion has been astroturfed to hell and back, and paid shills create artificial discussions that fit the narrative and dissenting opinions are ruthlessly downvoted out or shadowbanned. They even have a fucking program that labels anyone who posted on that one Trump sub so that they can harass anybody they come into contact with that has their digital Star of Jude. Our mods may be Leftists, but they're paragons of free speech by comparison.

It's amazing to watch the same people who praised WikiLeaks for Clinton's emails to vilify them because they dare messed with US intelligence.
Which group are you referring to? Establishment Neocons? Because most Trump Republicans despise the CIA and are pretty excited about the leak.

Lovin' it. My favourite is how many popular gaming YouTubers fucked up the controller straps.
A perfect example as to why you should never ever buy a console at launch.

If I buy a brand new monitor and it has dead pixels on it, then I send it back immediately. I don't see how a Nintendo Switch should be any different.

So a few years ago I picked up Ass Creed 2 on a Steam sale and I just now got around to playing it and I've been loving every bit of it so far. I want to play more of the series, but other than Brotherhood and Black Flag, are there any other Ass Creed games that are worthwhile? I know that Unity is horrible, but that's about it.

Is getting a Switch worth it? BoTW is at the top of my list of games to get, but I don't currently own any Nintendo systems other than the 3DS.

why does every hoennbaby have such a boner for aggron
Because it's Aggron. There's also the fact that Aron is accessible very early on, and Rock Head is extremely useful in-game since it allows you to spam Double Edge with impunity.

Replaying Emerald on an emulator. Haven't played in like 10 years. GBA Hoenn is infinitely more comfy than 3DS Hoenn.
Emerald with a physical/special split patch is the definitive way to play Hoenn in my opinion

Though I'd still replay Emerald before ORAS
Is there an Emerald romhack that's updated to the dex to modern standards, and includes Mega Evolution and stuff? Because that would be the greatest thing ever.

tbf, seems pretty retarded that a win simply requires the faction to pour in everything they have during the last 6 hours of the round. Should be based on how many territories the faction collectively won during the round.
It's like they tried to copy Planetside 2's Alert system but forgot to take into account that the territory game in For Honor requires no actual coordination or grand strategy on the part of the player.

I don't think there's any other way the Democrats will be able to stop Trump in 2020.
I don't care much about the DNC, but I'd say that Trump is doing a pretty stellar job at ruining his own bid for re-election so far.
People said the same thing about Dubya in '04, and he still won, because the only opposition the Democrats could mount was John Kerry. Who exactly are the Democrats going to be able run against Trump in 2020? Michelle Obama? Mark Zuckerberg? They don't stand a chance.

I'm really not sure how the Democrats will be able to come back from this. I don't see them performing well during the midterms. Unless they can somehow pull another Obama figure out of their ass, or an outsider comes in and takes the party by storm ala Trump, I don't think there's any other way the Democrats will be able to stop Trump in 2020.
