Not really. His family was killed unnecessarily in a military raid to retrieve two droids that weren't even there. He didn't join for religious reasons, he stated before he even met Kenobi and became aware of the force that he felt the Empire was evil. He partook in the operation to destroy a weapon that had been used to destroy an entire planet just to prove a point, and he killed the leader of military dictatorship that had proven itself to be indifferent towards unnecessary civilian casualties.
