I need to get around to really listening to Deathconsciousness. It just never grabbed me much, but everyone fellates it.

YouTube

I've probably listened to deathconsciousness well over 70 times all the way through.
It's not that I dislike it, I just was never sucked into it like everyone else was.

I agree with you on experimenting in music. If it isn't good, then the experimenting you have done is pointless.
"If it isn't good, it's bad."

No shit

Well yeah. But some people don't think that way.
Everybody on Earth thinks that way.
Plenty of pretentious assholes like experimental music solely because it is experimental.
They don't actually like the music and pretend they do to seem "cultured"

Demonstrate to me how they do. The album does not sound "underwater" and the chords on Eagle in Your Mind are not spooky. I don't know what possessed you to use those adjectives. It's insane.  Everything else is basically just /mu/tard regurgitation. "It's nostalgic and shit mannnn" yeah I know, bring something new to the table or don't write a shitty review.
The only reason I wrote that particular review was because someone basically requested it. Someone wanted to know my thoughts on the record. I had no knowledge whatsoever of BoC before they introduced me, so no, I wasn't regurgitating anything or anyone.

Reviews aren't about bringing "new shit" to the table, you fucking idiot. That's the music's job. If everyone thinks the same way about a particular record, that's just the way it is. I was unaware of the general opinion of this record going in, and I still don't really know.

Also, repeating your opinion over and over and turning the question around on me is a pretty shit way to argue.
Well if that's true then I'll give you some credit for picking up the nostalgic feeling even though it's pretty apparent in the album.

But what I'm saying is you have two options when you write a review:

1. Write it based on your completely 100% subjective opinion of the music (which will be unique).
2. Only discuss its objective qualities.

You failed to make it objective, and showed that you clearly have a juvenile understanding of the music, calling the chords "spooky" being my favorite example.

I will argue with you when you actually decide to engage in debate instead of saying "lol improvisation is shit bro xdDDDDDd" and leaving your argument there.

Yeah, I'm the juvenile one.

They're called "adjectives," kid. You use them to describe things. It's a part of good writing.

Let's see some of your reviews, and I'll pick it apart by pointing out asinine shit, too, you autistic fuck.

Improvisation is the purest form of self expression. It's composition in real time, with musicians picking out compositional elements from their emotions immediately, without time to think and revise.
This makes me sad, because it sort of invalidates that entire awesome rant you did on SRV awhile back. Because you sound like your typical dumbass SRV fan, talking about "muh feelings" and other bullshit. There is nothing impressive about composing music in real time, if the music sounds like fucking shit, and it always does. Having a more concentrated, focused effort and composing a piece of music that expresses a particular emotion is way, way cooler, and a lot more difficult to do, because now you don't even have an EXCUSE to sound shitty.

And it just hit me--improvisational music is just an excuse for bad musicianship.
Quote
And you say you're better at articulating your opinions better than I am, but I have yet to ever see you write a half decent review of anything
What reviews have you read of mine? Of anything.

Quote
I actually explain things through my understanding of my own emotions and of the technical aspects of musical composition. You are incapable of using either of those tools.
The technical aspects of music are completely irrelevant, and should be to anyone with musical taste. Who GIVES A FUCK if the music is technically "brilliant" when it sounds like complete and utter SHIT?

All that matters is how the music sounds. That's the only thing that matters.
1. It invalidates nothing of what I said during my SRV rant because it's two completely different concepts. I hate SRV precisely because he is boring and doesn't experiment at all, and he isn't any better than a kid who can play a blues scale really well. You have given me NO good reason why improvisation is bad. I understand your version of arguing is just stating your opinion as fact, which I am fine with and I understand, but to do so you have to supplement your assertions with something that gives your opinion value. Your opinion has no value because all you are say is "improvsation sucks cuz it's randum xDDDD" but you can't tell me why randomness is bad or why improvisation is bad. You also fail to understand that when I say "technical" aspects I mean theory, not how fast you can play the harmonic minor scale. You have absolutely NO CLUE what goes into studying improvisation, so you are incapable of forming an argument against it. You don't know what chord changes are, you don't know what an altered chord is, you don't know how to improvise, and I can tell you right now if you attempted to improvise (even if you were an accomplished piano player) it would sound like complete shit, so don't pretend like it's easy. Improvisation is, if anything, more difficult than composition, precisely because with composition you can revise and expand. Improvisation gives you one shot, so you better make it count. The improvisational styles of SRV versus Gilad Hekselman are remarkably different. The former relying solely on the blues scale to create a repetitive and half-assed attempt at a solo. Gilad Hekselman studied improvisation his whole life (and still is) so that he can play the chord changes to Night in Tunisia and freely express himself through those changes (because it's not freeform Jazz, and you clearly do not know what freeform music is or what it sounds like).

2.  I read one of your album reviews once, I can't recall which one because it was a while ago.

3.  The funny thing about this part is that you have more or less shot yourself in the foot. YES, IT DOES ONLY MATTER HOW IT SOUNDS, BUT I THINK IMPROVISATION SOUNDS FUCKING COOL.  You don't. That is all there is to it. Why do certain things appeal to us? Why do some people LIKE Jar Jar Binks as a character? Jesus I don't know, but they do. I can't begin to understand why someone would like him as a character, no matter how well they articulate their opinion. I have already told you how improvisational music makes me feel, and why I like it. I cannot explain to you any further beyond what I've said, because nobody can (unless you wanna get spiritual). It comes down to emotions and how you feel listening to the music. Some people appreciate experimental music more than others, that is the way the world works and if you can't understand it now, you probably never will.

Here. To supplement the insults I'm throwing at you, do me a favor

explain to me why you dislike the Night in Tunisia performance I linked you in detail.

If you can't then I will just drop out of the conversation because you are clearly incapable of articulating your own opinions beyond the level of a middle school social retard.

Also, explain to me WHY improvisation is "shit" because you have failed to do so.

The Flood / Re: Experimental music

This is entirely subjective.
Well no shit. As if that really needs to be said. The point is that I, as inarticulate as you find me, am still far more capable of substantiated my opinions than you are, and that's why I value my opinions on music more than I value yours. Because you can't explain shit. You're only capable of stating that you DO like something, but never why you like it. And I'm the inarticulate one.

I usually prefer solos when they're improvised (well) and not planned out.

Hear the guitar playing melodic lines in this song?
I hear it playing random nonsense.

Quote
The bass and drums are constantly improvising as well, just within a tighter structure, until the bass goes into its own solo (which you will recognize from the guitar getting quieter and the bass taking the forefront of the sound).  The drums take a solo after the bass.
It sounds like pointless shit. What is there to like about this?
Improvisation is the purest form of self expression. It's composition in real time, with musicians picking out compositional elements from their emotions immediately, without time to think and revise. It is self expression through music in the most abrupt and immediate and intimate form. With the lines they play I can construct in my head a meaning, and the player will use themes to anchor down his ideas as they float by. It's nature-imitating art. It's something you will NEVER understand if you are as thick skulled and narrowminded as you are.

And you say you're better at articulating your opinions better than I am, but I have yet to ever see you write a half decent review of anything, or tell me at all why you like what you like. It's always half-assed pretentious middle schooler tier drivel. I actually explain things through my understanding of my own emotions and of the technical aspects of musical composition. You are incapable of using either of those tools.
