Honestly, if somebody asks me where to find lots of new music, I tell them they should just absolutely IMMERSE themselves in the community of the genre they're after. I've been into Metal since I was around 10 or so, and I've gotten most of my bands from niche little underground forums. Keep in mind that, depending on the genre, I'd avoid the popular ones. For example, Metal Archives blows fat donkey dick, but more niche forums like the Uultimate Guitar Metal forum and Nuclear War Now are full of good music. so if you can, find a community like that.
