Serious / Re: Poverty doesn't cause fundamentalism« on: February 13, 2015, 11:29:08 AM »I don't see how. There's nothing "radical" about how gang members kill each other. It's like a war. When the fuck did I say that? What about the proclivity for gang violence to occur in impoverished or unhealthy areas? Isn't that a form of radicalism?...No. Not at all. How did you even come to this conclusion? It's radical in the sense that they are often far more extreme than typical criminals. Really I just wanted to know if he was saying poverty doesn't inherently cause a higher tendency for extreme criminal behavior (religious or otherwise). 7028

I prefer the fantasy setting of Dark Souls, but Bloodborne might be the reason I buy a PS4.

I was asking if he thought gangs were a form of radicalism of crime. 7030

Gaming / Re: Star Wars: Battlefront rumors« on: February 13, 2015, 10:47:47 AM »
I have no problem with preplanned DLC, but the idea of playing through the campaign as a character sounds particularly unlike Battlefront. In each game you're going to have numerous deaths; how is that going to work here? It just doesn't seem possible to play a Battlefront match with a single character without radically changing how the game works.
And is it really a FPS? 7032

Anthropogenic climate change is the consensus. I'd say there's no chance that humans haven't contributed to it.

The Flood / Re: Proof of Jesus Christ« on: February 13, 2015, 10:14:50 AM »give me some documentation citing jesus's existence from eye witness accounts from around his time Much of the gospels are considered historical, but non-Christian authors include Josephus and Tacitus. There are a lot of issues with this, too, since Jesus operated in a largely backwater little part of civilization where very few people wrote, and you've cut out actual eyewitness testimony by excluding the gospels. He's not mentioned much in Roman writings because (1) He didn't really interact with Rome and (2) much of Rome's historical writings were lost in either the great fire or from being conquered. 7035

Yours kicked all the usurers out of a temple. You're taking those out of context or misquoting on purpose, Allah looks down on you. Muhammad (pbuh), was being attacked by non-believers, so self defense was justified. You can only read the Qu'ran in Arabic to truly understand it's magnificence. It truly brings us muslims to tears. Everything you say is mistranslation. Allah Akbar. We talking Crusades? Shit's fucked up, but at least those were mostly unilateral conflicts between nations. Also, I'm not Catholic and I consider a lot of what they do to be apostasy. 7042

Bureaucracy does indeed hinder the effectiveness of a government, but we saw what happens when a government becomes a well-oiled machine back in 1940s Germany.

I'd love to see some Muslim apologetic stuff on this. Some of it can be explained away as Muhammad giving orders during a war, but it's hard to see how the rest is okay. There's just so much of it.

Brute, where do you live?
OT: Mexican food. I'm originally from AZ, have had food made by poor families living in a literal ghetto (not the projects or hoods of America), and while I love a good TexMex, it's not even close to legit. 7049

The more infrastructure and organization ISIS develops, the more susceptible they are to conventional warfare. But still, it's hard to fight an ideal.

Serious / Re: So..maybe no Big Bang?« on: February 11, 2015, 11:58:45 AM »So I actually understand very little of the paper itself, but it seems like they're taking the big bang model and putting the singularity at the asymptote of time --> - ∞...meaning, in their model, as we approach the "beginning" of the universe the universe gets smaller and smaller, but never actually reaches singularity. From your perspective, exactly what is the value of this research? Is it decent, groundbreaking or did some laymen in the media pick it up and start clucking like a chicken. I don't want you guys to think I'm authoritative at all on this. I have an engineering degree and dabble in self-taught higher math and enjoy light reading on quantum theory. I don't think it's groundbreaking in the sense that general relativity or quantum theory was, but I think they've presented a really interesting new idea that I haven't heard before. |
