The Flood / Re: This is why I cant stand big bang theory [show]
« on: March 02, 2015, 08:41:46 AM »
It was actually a bit funnier with just the audience laughing and no dialog.

My parents love it so I used to watch it frequently when I'd go over for dinner or something. Earlier seasons were pretty bad, but lately it's been funny. I wouldn't  go out of my way to watch it, but I won't jump on the hater bandwagon either.

I appreciate their use of a live, un-cued audience with minimal takes in each scene. It's more classic sitcom than canned humor you get in a lot of similar shows.

So why is this country spending a shit load on the military and on war when there are actual things things that need a high budget that would accomplish more?

State taxes don't contribute to the defense budget.

Chosen Ones can't be women, everybody knows that.
You do know that a woman wrote Harry Potter, right?

The prophesy literally refers to the Chosen One as a boy. It was a joke, though.

Talking shit about B.old when the format of this forum is a directly inspired by it.

The Flood / Re: How did you grow up?
« on: March 01, 2015, 05:45:54 PM »
Good childhood. Dad was an asshole, and my sister suffered from bipolar disorder, and that's kind of weird to live with. Having to get a key to unlock the drawers with butter knives to set the table and such. Other than that, fairly normal for a middle-class American.

The Flood / Re: Aragorn vs Jon Snow. Who. Is. Deadliest?
« on: March 01, 2015, 02:16:09 PM »
My boy Aragorn is a decendant of the Dúnedain and high king of Gondor. Jon Snow is the Lord Commander of a bunch of barely trained criminals tasked with fighting desperate barbarians who are massively underequipped.

Sorry bruh, Aragorn would wipe the floor with Jon.

Well, on one hand, the replies have kept this at the top, but on the other, my posts and others like it have derailed this a bit. It was disrespectful to give such a flippant response, though I do think it's a valid sentiment.

The Flood / Hiking the Appalachian Trail
« on: March 01, 2015, 01:59:29 PM »
Have any of you ever considered doing this, either a segment of it or the whole thing? The thru-hike takes about 6 months, so it's a big commitment. Think I'll consider doing this after getting out of the military before getting another job.

If you have any experience, either firsthand or from friends who've done it, talk about them here.

That's just GTA Online.
GTA is a horror-survival game?

Maybe in a time of extreme crisis where legislation is too slow to respond efficiently enough. Otherwise, I don't think so.

I can see the concept. But we sorta can already do this.

Yeah, and you can shoot aliens with lasers in a hundred triple-A games but they're still coming out.

You know what would be even better? Playing a survivor. Think something along the lines of This War of Mine.
Oh man, I'd dig that. I was thinking along the lines of DayZ where you start powerless and have to survive and collect materials, but I could see a horror-survival type thing just trying to make it through the night.

So a shit version of GTA?

Only in the sense of free-roaming in a city. More along the lines of DayZ.

Basic classes covering general topics, lots of tedious but relatively mundane homework, expensive textbooks, and professors that don't care.

Have some sort of process that generates a random event like a break-in or something if you stay in the same area too long.

This is just spitballing, obviously, but I don't think you'd have any fun sitting in a house for 12 hours.

Premise: One night a year, all crime is legal. Gangs rove the streets to kill each other and those left out in the open. Residences and stores are broken into for theft and security.

Game idea: A 12-hour roguelike, real-time campaign that you can play over and over, with randomly generated scenarios like maps, gangs, characters, etc. Co-op would allow you to play with a limited number of friends or invade others' games to hunt them. Online multiplayer could take the form of arena gang wars, free for all matches, and matchmaking of the co-op mode, both aggressive and defending.

I'd play the shit out of this.

Both. Aim for at least 3, but sorenesss and all. TMI.

So the real issue here, is creating a community that welcomes people when they finally show up here.

Unless the new people we get love being called nigger faggots, they're not going to feel welcomed.

Also.

2003 FMA > FMA:B

Fuck you little kids.

Watched FMA:B first, going through FMA now. It's way better. Filler is better, music is better, dialog is better, homunculus story is better. It's cool having both though. I usually hate anime, but it's great to have a lot of episodes for one I actually like.

I watched some more and it was actually pretty funny. Are all of his videos just contrived criticisms of theists?
Pretty much.

He has a pretty funny one where a creationist tour-guide is showing him around an evolutionary museum.

His videos are pretty much for the sake of entertainment, as opposed to intellectual stimulation.

Mmm.

People actually watch videos like this?
The Armoured Skeptic or Josh Feuerstein?

Both, I guess. The fat guy is an idiot, so what's the point in even making a video response to him? His idiocy is obvious and goes without statement. Videos, articles, and arguments criticizing stuff like that are ubiquitous. What do you get out of watching another?

There's no intrigue. They're not playing cat and mouse with anyone, not hiding any murders or scandals. It plays out like a particularly depressing season of The West Wing.
